We used to hear "just being dumb" or something similar a lot. Got to love those mud recoveries. Cleaning equipment for a week afterwards. You've got those kinetic ropes down to a science. Wish we had those back in the day. We used mooring lines. Nice work.
It's a deceiving upper dry crust. Once it breaks, your vehicle sinks. We buried a beefed up- 72 Dodge power wagon with front and rear lockers to the point that ground water got into the cab. A semi-truck wrecker struggled to pull us out. Worst stuck situation that we have ever faced. We try to stay away from drying out ponds, lakes and river beds if at all possible. Love your videos Matt. Keep em coming...
Once you get stuck down to the floorboards depth with water and mud, the suction created is equal to 3x weight of the stuck vehicle. So a 3000lb truck needs 9,000lbs of tow force to unstick. KERR (kinetic energy recovery ropes) (in this case Yankum ropes) have limits, as do attachment points for rated recovery hooks (not drawbar/towballs. It is gentler to use a winch in "floorboard depth" mud recoveries. The recoveries on Matt's show are barely stuck at all in relative terms.....but the Yankums showed their worth. One thing..big heavy steel shackles are a missile in the middle of the ropes. If either rope snaps, that missile hits the towing or the towed truck. Believe it or not, but the tow straps can be joined by interleaving the eyes and using a rolled up newspaper or paper magazine as the joiner...it will hold...and it won't impact like a steel shackle if anything goes wrong.
I laughed out loud when Lizzy just cranks the wheel and the power steering is just a squealing. I could see Matt's internal screaming but he was so chill about it. What a great person to work for. Respect
Matt, and wonderful Family, Staff , Dogs and all other contributors to this, one of the very best, UA-cam channels. I congratulate you on your continued growth, the content, the variety are all interesting, exciting, amusing, informative and very very refreshing to watch in these very difficult times. Lizzie’s a good sport...admits when she’s wrong and corrects her actions without blaming other folks. She learns quickly. She’s a “keeper,” Matt. Scary about the little dog. Maybe folks should leash or hold their animals while you’re yankin their vehicles. Would save a lot of heartache. Love your channel.

The part with Lizzy not having it in gear had me laughing as I had a similar experience a couple years ago lol. My brother and I were hooked up tandem with our F250s to pull out my niece's husband when he got his fully loaded semi stuck in some mud and deep snow. On the first yank we didn't even so much as rock the semi a bit forward. Found out he forgot to put it in gear. After that we were able to pull him right out on the second try lol. Gotta love how well kinetic ropes work.
I've done the same thing with an Isuzu Rodeo and Thunderbird. Made sure my wheels were straight and the parking brake was off, but never took the Thunderbird out of park.
Last year we were pulling a yacht out of the water for winter, usually the work truck and a quad are enough but this damn thing wasn’t moving. Me and my buddy asked the boss, “are all the lines off, can you double check?” He stubbornly refused. Eventually my truck got added to the line, so you have a f-250, a tundra and 500 Honda all pulling and the boss refuses to double check that lines are off. When the boss went to the bathroom my coworker did a walk around and found the aft line still tied and that we had bent the dock.
I stopped to jumpstart a Mini Cooper and it wasn’t starting. I was sitting there scratching my head after checking all the connections for the third time when I realized my key was still in the off position
