How American Youth Coped During The Great Recession (Modern Warfare 2)

I'm aware that technically Modern Warfare 2 came out shortly after the Recession had ended, but the long term effects of the economic crash still lingered. Divorce rates in America were at an all time peak which is not surprising, given that monetary issues are a common root cause of divorce and tough economic times sharpen those problems. "One of the saddest under-reported consequences of recession is the different impacts it can have on young people. Grim as it is, recessions lead to higher rates of child malnutrition, and there is ample evidence that points to serious long-term consequences to such malnutrition, including stunted development and academic under-achievement."
Modern Warfare 2 was a game that got us through a difficult time, a distraction that gave us enjoyment in a world we had yet to fully understand. To me Modern Warfare 2 was more than a game, it was my religion. All day long during school all I could think about was MW2 , and when I got home I immediately hopped on with my friends. There was something magical about this particular game that no other CoD has been able to replicate since. It's hard to believe that over 10 years has passed since the release of MW2, I was only 12 years old at the time and I was constantly called an "annoying squeaker". Mean words never really bothered me as I was truly happy at the time. We're fortunate we never grew up with obnoxious douchetubers and a huge modern day emphasis on social media. We could have all easily forgot about Modern Warfare 2, but we didn't...because it was special.
I would like to thank TheKing0fHalo for coming up with the title "How American Youth Coped During The Great Recession" without him I would have never had the idea to create this video.
I'm also aware that this game did not only have an impact on American youth but also on the Australian and European youth. - Ігри

Those yelling matches in the lobbies will resonate in my head until im gone
Speed hack lobbies trying to glitch out of the map also, I just have so many memories thinking about it makes me pessimistic about gaming today
Which COD was it where you fought on an oil rig or something on the ocean against a load of juggernauts? I think it was MW2 but can’t remember. I played all of the COD’s up to black ops 1 then just never bought another one for some reason.
Thank you to all the people that played Cod4, Cod5, Mw2, and Bo1 in their prime. It will never return to this and not just the gameplay, soundtracks, story modes, multiplayer, but also The COMMUNITY. It was and honor learning to quickscope on cod4. Mowing down zombies on cod 5 with the pack a punched ppsh or trying glitches to use a flame thrower in a spot where zombies cant touch u even though the glitches were already patched (der riese had the best easter egg song). Beating friends nuke count, settling who the best player is with no slight of hand pro quickscoping on rust, lobbing noobtubes off spawn on domination trying to beat shaggy123's fasted nuke that was faked but we didn't care, pumping people with pre patch akimbo model 1887's on mw2. Destroying lobbies on blackops 1's nuketown with a full squad using blackbird, dogs, chopper gunner trying to get over 100 kills playing domination or demolition and last but not least it was an honor talking shit about ur mother and sister while pulling all-nighters. Don't be sad it's over, be happy it happened. P.S. I fucked ur mom.
Speedrunning CTF games with the care package glitch that made you run like Usain Bolt from one side of the map to the other; and abusing the javelin glitch that made randoms mad as hell during domination matches.
COD 4? Bro some of us (the real OGs) go back to COD 1 and 2.
@@diznutz5110You missed the point. When someone brings up "OG COD" no one is talking about cod 1 & 2 and if you were a "real OG" you should be able to recognize that. They technically come prior in the series so sure they're older but COD2 wasn't even on PS2 and the first COD had bad multiplayer on consoles and this video is literally about how cod multiplayer got people through a shitty time. Your comment is irrelevant in many aspects. Most people started playing during COD4-MW2 because it had the best multiplayer to date and the games were on every system. If you owned a PS2 COD 1/2 weren't released on it so those titles don't even apply as "og" to that system. Kinda sounds like you want internet attention for being a Cod "OG" since apparently being an og at anything makes kids think your cool.

You're a screen cheater!" "All right all right redo" Next game... "You used semi auto! Bolt action only" Next game... "WTF why did you drop shot?" Next game... Someone brings an M16 to the quick scope battle and queues up for split screen multiplayer
28 years old here
i was an 11 year old neck deep playing COD4, MW2, WAW, BO & BO2 as simmons_ back from 2008 to 2015 from being shitting on lobbies w/ +40 kills til i started adulting too early at 15.
it was the only thing that helped me pull through the hardest days with all the unhinged adults trash talking in lobbies. i was a sensitive squeaker that would stutter because i had crippling anxiety. glad it built me into someone that is desensitized to all insults unimaginable you would never hear today and irl, at some point those insults became compliments.
those years are absolutely glorious, nothing was ever the same after 2015 and you had to be there to live the experience. :)
Man, im so jealous that you guys have such good internet conection
my dad works for Microsoft
im hosting a modded prestige lobby for only 800 microsoft points
My dad is bill gates. Im tracking your IP
What is he gonna do ban me? 1v1 me on rust chode
You smell like mustard and I’ve been subbed to you since h1 pre season 2
shut up u only play fortnite
When the girl joined then everyone became a comedian...
False, egirls only became a thing in 2017. Simping was nonexistant back in the og days.
@@CoachSludge you are clearly an infant because that was absolutely a thing in those lobbies
@@doctoradventure413 i really dont remember them as often tbh. To be fair its been SEVERAL years since the og years were around.
Nah, i remember some dudes were thirsty, not as much as today, but yeah, it was prevalent.
@@sandwichofham3837 I really only remember minecraft simping, "will you be my minecraft girlfriend for 64 diamonds?".
This brings a tear to this 40 year old mw2 veteran's eye. God these lobbies wee glorious.
Back when everyone could catch the roast, and beef was settled on rust.
Quirkz I was so proud of my quick scoping skills
Or nuke town
Quirkz newest modern warfare cyber attack just the same everyone talks shit
Now a days beef is settled by being booted offline.
Cash me outside wichyo akimbo ass
Back when youtube was filled with Machinima content and weekly “best kills of the week” “best trickshots” and whiteboy7st was popular
Holy shit I havent heard whiteboy7st in a damn long time.
@@touey62 damn just reminded me about SeaNanners too
Wow whiteboy was the shit, your comment brought back some memories.
Whiteboy7st? I haven’t heard that name in years
And Smosh was popular as hell.
Half the people growing up these days wouldn't survive one of these lobbies. Truly was a golden era.
Wow this brought back memories. Great video
Back when trickshots meant something, camping was an offense punishable by death, and making fun of 10-year-olds was a pastime .
And don't you dare get caught hard scoping
I was that 10 year old😭😭😭
Now we have sweats that camp and drop shot.
Nowadays trickshots are just 360 no scopes
Fuckin squeakers
Little known fact Back in 2009 everyone had autism
christopher garrison thank god those anti-vaxx moms started bringing balance back to the chromosomes shortly after 😭😭 definetly joking
I have very mild autism (high functioning) and there wasn’t a single moment in the video where anyone even showed a single sign of autism.. Maybe I’m missing something here but I don’t get why it’s funny cause there isn’t any ‘truth’ in your comment.
Jon Lenin Oh shit really? I apologize if u offended you but I feel you on that I have the highest on the spectrum as well (basically non-existent besides the social/sensory issues/the obsessive interests in ONE thing at a time). But the joke was a jab at OPs comment talking about everyone having autism in 2009. After this year when FaceBook gained massive social popularity Anti-vaccine mothers started coming out of the woodwork to spread misinformation about how these helpful vaccines are the cause of autism. I made the joke multilayered with the “bringing balance back to the chromosomes” since we normally have 46 of them and most mental disabilities have some missing with an odd number such as Down Syndrome and whatnot.
More like 2010 cos that’s when most people played
That's how WSB started
30 years old and remember it like it was yesterday. God Bless you all.
Don’t be sad that this era has ended be happy that we lived through it 🥲
I am proud to say that my dad has officially retired from Microsoft
good times
Mine too
Everyone's has
My dad owns microsoft
I almost feel bad for the small handful of kids whose dads actually DID work for Microsoft, and none of us believed them because of how outlandish that claim was
