Yi4k+ has better contrast and color but little bit prone to lens flare and worse hi iso noise in low light. Sj8pro has better dynamic range, low light hi iso and stabilization, but a bit less sharpness and contrast I think. Overall, I prefer sj8pro
Never tried the Yi 4K+ but it seems to be the better choice. I have my doubts in some SJCAM products. The optics used in the SJ8 pro is quite poor and has pink reflections under direct sunlight. What is obviously way better is the stabilization of the SJ8 Pro. Still - you probably made the better choice sticking to the Yi 4K Plus :-)
i've been taking the Yi 4K+ with me pretty much everywhere and I'll probably keep it till the new generation shows up (should be soon). I wouldn't mind trying some of the Sony Action cameras...but they are pretty expensive...:(
Thought about the x3000r, but this different form factor bugs me. There are so many positive reviews, and it is perhaps great, however the gopro-like form factor is something like a standard, and so many thigs are done to support that kind of formfactor. overall IMO sj8pro is better. EIS is copy of EIS from hero6, . IMO dynamic range is better in sj8. low light i don't have to write nothing looks similar how hero's image (only x3000 can record in lower light without gimbal)

I have them both, i colaborate in production of local tv series, and we have some shots taken inside cars, i haver purchased SJ8 Pro, Y4k+ and Gopro Hero 6 Black. SJ8 pro is the winner for me, for the convenience of batteries (you can buy couple of them and switch), editing, and options, may not be the best in specs, but is the most usefull balanced for me. The wifi command works perfect, we take sound with external mic, so we dont care about sound. Just sharing my experience. Either of them works very good with appropiate light.
Hello, the colors at 1:04 to 1:42 for both cameras are realy different!!! did you changed the settings? because both have the same Hardware. The Yi4K+ is more coloring like Blue , the same as my old SJ4000 from SJCAM . Can some body tell me where can i download the original video samples for both camears because youtube compressed the Quality and become very Bad Quality. Thanks
I don't like warm color profile, so I choose Yi 4K+. I don't really understand why the amount of noise in low light is inconsistent. Sometimes it's like analog TV that misses the target frequency, but can be crystal clear as well.
Really? Image stabilization is the cause of the noisy footage? Sounds weird, my guess was due to the high ISO... (limiting to 800 or lower helps a bit, with the expense of darker scene)
@@leledumbo if you setting a lot you can get a better quality in low light but not so amazing.... The Stabilization make the image not so clear. Better to remove in low light. For low light I use my thieye T5e and it's work well. (but not good for Day time lol)
IMO both camera has same quality but just shipped with different default settings, SJ has setting with less WB while YI has more WB, and SJ Mic has wind filter more while YI mic has Mic filter less. It just like equalizer for me, both camera can be tweaked to get same result IMO
Salut :) Good review! I had an SJ7 Star and wanted to buy a better one. I wanted a Yi4k+ but finally ordered an SJ8 Pro. Good to see the two cameras side by side last week couldn't find a good comparison on the whole internet. My thoughts about the situation: The Yi4k+ has a better processor, but only H.264, the screen is not bright enough and the sound is bad even with an external microphone (there are many complains and examples on the internet). It has a higher bitrate and the best details available in any action camera. The Sjcam, in general, had buggy firmware but the SJ8 latest firmware seems to be stable now with more and more features. The front AMOLED display is a good bonus and I think is useful. The H.265 codec can make videos half the size and is great to have implemented. SJ8 pro is a newer camera and more features and firmware updates are expected. Finally, I think the YI4k+ has better video quality but the SJ8 is more recent and has more potential, also is a big factor that is cheaper with all the accessories included. I bought the SJ8 pro full package for 190USD at Tomtop. My opininon is based on every review available on the internet about these cameras, maybe will change after I can test both cameras. About the tested video footage: The firmware version is an important factor, it should be mentioned or described in the video description. You could zoom in and check the exact difference in quality and dynamic range, from a compressed UA-cam video is hard to see the difference. Try to do the videos with the same setting on both cameras, at the 120p footage the Yi4k+ is much sharper by the settings, maybe that makes the difference in quality. Without the stabilization the footage can be compared better, even in night mode. Also the disortion correction is not always implemented very good, is better to turn off everything because can be corrected in editing. ( I had problems on SJ7 with the correction, makes footage less sharp). Great reviews by the way, good to see a real comparison about the best action cameras available on the market. If you have a chance try to make a comparison with the GoPro6 also included. What do you think about my points?
Your points are great and I thought about including more things... but I didn't want to make the video too long and finding the clips and adding them side by side takes sooooo long. I also made the mistake of not syncing the time on the cameras before recording so everything was a big mess :) Lesson learned for the future The footage would look better at night with the EIS off and I could have used a gimbal.

I almost every situation , the audio spectrum is mid/mid-high. The audio of the Yik4k is sometimes muddy with low frequneties that kills the sound clearness of a voice -traffic-natur. In the studio I fliter that muddy audio frequenty's that the Yik4 has
The sjcam can store the videos in h.265, the yi cannot. The sjcam can use a external microphone, i don't know if the yi can. The h.265 is a must if you record 4k 60fps.

Thanks for the detailed comparison! I think overal the Yi 4K+ is indeed better. Color temperature doesn't really matter as that's something you adjust in post. Image stabilisation is nice but personally I would use a gimbal anyway. I don't agree about the nighttime recording though. The Yi 4K+ seems to have significantly more noise which is surprising considering that they both have the same image sensor. Perhaps the YI 4k+ has a smaller aperture or tends to use a higher shutter rate.
Night performance SJ8 Pro is clear winner... Day time, i think there is no significant difference.. And Yİ 4K+ is more saturated, seems good but not realistic. SJ8 is more realistic i think

hi nice test, here is my opinion ,I have the sj8 pro, the only advantage is are beautiful very bright screen even in full sun and also the digital zoom usable even in recording, EIS 6 axis ... I keep them 6 days because the firmware the app really buggy, since I have a yi4k + the huge bitrate 135 Mbps of origin, with a mod (script) it is possible to spend 250Mbps crazy detail! the only disadvantage it is not waterproof without box ...
The SJCAM SJ8 PRO, the YI 4k, the YI 4k Plus and the more expensive GoPro's are able to record at 25 and 50fps (PAL) which is used in Europe and most of the world. Any camera model cheaper than these don't have the option to record in 25 and 50fps. Why is it that the more affordable Action Cameras ONLY record in 30, 60 or 120fps which is used in North and South America and a few other countries? What's amazing is that most of these cameras are made in China where they use the PAL system. BTW there is NOT one single UA-cam Video that talks about this...

Watch out folks before you buy an Yi 4k+, the audio isn't better than the Sj8 pro! In fact the Yi has problems with the external mic recordings and they can't fix it because it has something to do with the hardware! And because those action cameras are nearly indentical with image quality i am going to buy an Sj8 pro!!!
I will have a new top 5 budget action cameras video soonish. 4K 60FPS is difficult to edit...requires a pretty powerful computer...personally I will stick to 4K30FPS

Both cameras are used with the color profile that comes from the factory. They have other profiles that you can choose from

the yi 4K is too old now... I don't know if it's worth buying that one. The firefly 8SE is pretty awesome for around $120

is sjcam have gps? yi 4k+ doesnt, but you can live stream with that.

If you turn on the image stabilization on the Yi 4K+ it does much better at night
Night performance SJ8 Pro is clear winner... Day time, i think there is no significant difference.. And Yİ 4K+ is more saturated, seems good but not realistic. SJ8 is more realistic i think
Dear. What memory in 128 gigas you recommend me for the SJ8 Pro in 4K. I want to have a totally fluid experience. Thank you. I have a Sandisk Extreme of 128 U3. But my experience is not pleasant. I have cuts and lag so to speak.

hi nice test, here is my opinion ,I have the sj8 pro, the only advantage is are beautiful very bright screen even in full sun and also the digital zoom usable even in recording, EIS 6 axis ... I keep them 6 days because the firmware the app really buggy, since I have a yi4k + the huge bitrate 135 Mbps of origin, with a mod (script) it is possible to spend 250Mbps crazy detail! the only disadvantage it is not waterproof without box ...
agreed, the screen on the SJ8 Pro is the best i've seen on any camera!

The SJCAM SJ8 PRO, the YI 4k, the YI 4k Plus and the more expensive GoPro's are able to record at 25 and 50fps (PAL) which is used in Europe and most of the world. Any camera model cheaper than these don't have the option to record in 25 and 50fps. Why is it that the more affordable Action Cameras ONLY record in 30, 60 or 120fps which is used in North and South America and a few other countries? What's amazing is that most of these cameras are made in China where they use the PAL system. BTW there is NOT one single UA-cam Video that talks about this...

I didn't said anything about PAL or NTSC. Just 50fps is still standart for TV in In Europe(at least at most countries)

Watch out folks before you buy an Yi 4k+, the audio isn't better than the Sj8 pro! In fact the Yi has problems with the external mic recordings and they can't fix it because it has something to do with the hardware! And because those action cameras are nearly indentical with image quality i am going to buy an Sj8 pro!!!

I will have a new top 5 budget action cameras video soonish. 4K 60FPS is difficult to edit...requires a pretty powerful computer...personally I will stick to 4K30FPS
