Magnificent, love all these features! I will very happily pay for my renewal this summer - they deserve it :) The project and track remote controls are an especially handy feature, and being able to modulate mixer controls and global stuff (this includes tempo, apparently...!) is extremely interesting. I'm still waiting to see if my minor gripes have been addressed (both of them are MIDI-related) - I need to check the fine print I guess.
Excellent overview. Thanks so much my legendary friend! I'm impressed, I think the Bitwig team have made a marvelous upgrade! Producers can really do some serious refinement to their productions. There's no gimmicks here.
I think it was a good update. However there are many things they should do before creating new stuff. You must be wondering, but like what? - A good and simple freeze function - MIDI comping - Vídeo suport - Quantize-stretch onsets for audios - Resolve the EQ+ (and others) phase and latency issue - Being able to export in different tracks each pad/instruments of the Drum Machine device - Capture listening MIDI (like Ableton) - VariAudio type of editor
I agree with your list and I especially would love to have MIDI comping and Quantize onsets for audio. Currently you got to slice at onsets and then quantize slices. This is a terrible hack (which can introduce artifacts) for such an obvious feature.
New browser is an improvement, would have liked it if we could make custom categories though. 3rd party plugin management could still be better I think.
@@JohnSmith-pn2vl All my categories are still there but empty. No way to add new item. New "smart" collections are actually filters. Also, can't add more than 1 item to them. Very confusing. Convoluted garbage so far.
@@technotronic I couldn't agree more I spent hours organizing my plugins in categories! Now the new browser is so convoluted and bloated! We should all report to developers to bring back old categories to organize how we want!
You forgot to mention the feature that is group and project modulators which can automate all tracks underneath it, which is arguably the most crazy and innovative feature of this update.
All great stuff. My only request would be if there was a way to toggle clips on and off. For live, that it makes things so much more intuitive than setting up blank clips and having to remember where they are, etc. I just want to be able to punch a clip in and punch it out again when needed, with quantization options of course. Oh and fades, but ai think other people have mentioned this too. Other than this small things it looks great. It is great :-)
You can configure now what should happen when you release a pad, e.g. STOP as you want it. You can even configure that for each clip individually and there is a default setting for the project as well!

@@jumpstar9000For stopping clips (using Launchpad) I have row eight (the bottom row) always filled with empty clips. This way, the bottom row is permanent stop-the-clip buttons. I “waste” a row this way, but for my use it is perfect.
I have an old Bitwig 2 license, but I reverted back to Cubase. I really don’t like Bitwigs upgrade plan. When Bitwig goes to a conventional upgrade plan, I will say with 100% certainty, I will switch.

IE I put a filter and a tool device on all of my tracks - Do I have to setup a page for each track individually rather than pulling from a saved group remote track page? Since you can basically map anything on these pages, I think it makes no sense (or is even not possible) to store and exchange them. What you can do is store your track or the whole project as a template.
Excellent video, covering lots of great new stuff. On the new browser... in beta 2, I can't see any of my "old" smart collections, or even lists. They all come up empty, or showing only Bitwig plugins. I reported it, and hopefully there'll be a fix, or maybe they'll tell me what I'm doing wrong.
It’s a big. Creating new ones doesn’t work, doing a fresh install, meaning removing the bitwig folder that remembers collections doesn’t work either. I put in the big, I suggest you do the same. Plugins just do not show up in collections.
Not sure where the praise for new clumsy and cluttered browser come from. Its clearly a huge step back for user experience and only was remade to include online shop into it.
I never use the browser lol except for my plugin folder. But if I did.. it surely would annoy the heck out of me (why I don't use it in the first place).
I did not like the new browser until you showed that you can create new tags or filters by vendor and it tries to auto tag plugins. I search a lot by vendor because it's less names to remember and can't remember some of the funky names of plugins.

Yeah, it is a compromise to simply things with the most controllers on the market. If you need more, you can still use the direct user parameter mapping.

Moss. I've recently bought the launchpad pro MK3 and am still trying to get my head round it with bitwig (amazing script btw). I've just installed bitwig 5 and I noticed a grid icon in the top right corner you can click on and then it opens some settings for the lp3 like scales and other things that I don't understand. Can't find any documentation on this or what it actually does. Any ideas? And also, is the lp3 ready to work with bitwig 5 or will it work fine? Thanks brother
These settings are the project related settings which were before in the side pane. See the project settings documentation in the DrivenByMoss manual in the Launchpad chapter. Yes, DrivenByMoss verison 20 supports (and requires) Bitwig 5.
And even though I can add VST is to collections verify that they’re actually in collections and make new collections and add them to the collections I can’t get the VST to show up when I select a collection.
Hello, i have the launchpad mini mk3 and I can only have acces to the first and the last page of the project page and track page when i press the arrows on the top left of the mini mk3 in the project/track parameters mode, do you konw if its normal or a bug (I have update my mini mk3)? thank you very much
Rewind 2 by monkeyc rolling recording audio and midi. I know it's not built in but very useful if you need it. Throw it on your master or instrument and have up to 30 min rolling recording. Works standalone too when you're wanting to sample UA-cam or whatever. Just drag the selected audio out.
If you create a utility track and set the input to your controller, and then set it to always monitor you can achieve the same thing. at least that is what I do. it doesn't have to have any instruments or chain. I don't do it all the time, because I don't always need it, but, it is certainly an option probably it would be nice to have some builtin function, but it does work
Keep in mind this is still a beta 2 version. If you are able to run this beta version, report it back to the Bitwig developers, so they can look into it. No need for drastic measures until the final release version is available and still has this bug.
With all the respect browser is cluttered, ugly and not user friendly at all. When it used to take me to the plugin I need 2 clicks now I need to do 5 or more… 🤦♂️
I felt the same when first using it, it's a bit overwhelming. It takes a bit to get familiar with but after some time I like it more. E.g. that you can use the function keys to directly select a smart collection is awesome.
@@mossgraber Cool. But, I need trivial thing. Let's create something basic: how can one create collection with only 5 synths? Old collections are empty, can't add anything new to them. New smart collections are actually filters. Try to add 5 synths from diferent vendors to them. No way. So, I can use the func key to select smart collection with only 1 plug inside? Or all plugs with the word "bass" in their names?
@@technotronic Same thing here, all my old collections are empty yet each of the plugins are still marked as in a collection. Yet when I click on the collection --> Nada. I have even problems recreating new collections - I've tried dragging a plugin and dropping in one of the side icons, it looks like it does something but then when I click on the side icon, still nothing. Maybe a tutorial on how to use it (or short manual) would help as, how it stands at the moment, is not intuitive at all.

this is a killer update, we can aswell have track controls in the mixer, that alone is a massive game changer imo! very exciting!

I think they are not fully backwards compatible. Best is to create new ones and delete the old.
They should be imported correctly so please report this to Bitwig support team.

Are the collections broken? I can’t seem to get any of them to function properly.
Only bitwig negative devices will show up in all my old collections

Yes, these bugs are confirmed and should be fixed in the next beta round.

Is it possible to scan mseg envelope with another input signal (like env or lfo) so playhead moves not from begining to end but free way?
There are different play modes but I think you cannot move the position yourself.

Boring update. Mostly for sound fiddly random stuff again... Where are the big workflow features to compete with real daws? so sad.
Don't like the new browser and it refuses point blank to scan my Soundtoys plugins! I won't be upgrading when my current plan expires.
