    Thank you so much I’m a female and just was tired of being told so much was wrong with my mom Camry 1998 XLE. I’m dealing with a major leak. So it’s taking me some days to degrease while it’s cool and I’m going to start on the front gasket cover but I want to make sure I have dried all the necessary parts and if I’m brave I will tackle the back gasket cover. It is so much to take a loose until I think I have to video where I’m taking nuts and bolts a lose 😂 and put in a bowl and label them by steps as I listen to your video. Worse case scenario I have AAA to take to my mechanic for him to finish the rest 🤣🤣🤣. Wish me luck and I hope you keep doing videos for single moms who need to just get dirty and not be afraid of doing stuff that’s supposed to be for men to do. Your biggest fan 🎉🤗🤗

      Google and UA-cam are your friends, sometimes you don't even need a repair manual. If you do, check if your library has it. My library has some tools to check out like code reader, inspection camera (endoscope), cell phone tripod with remote incase you don't remember how to put things back. Some auto parts house have free tools for rent. First I would torque those bolts with a torque wrench with the specified torque setting to see if that would stop or slow down th leaks first before going into this adventure. I use magnetic bowls for those little nuts and bolts.

    Thank you so much Danny! As a 16 year old I found this very easy and helpful!

    I just found out that those head bolts are TTY (torque to yield)
    They are meant to stretch, and not “supposed” to be reusable.
    The Toyota manual has a series of torque’s you go through

    What are the torque specs for the valve cover bolts? And when ordering the gasket is the "left" one the one showen here in this video closer to the front of the car?

    Do the valve cover bolts need to be replaced because of their composite/rubber washers?

      The bolts should be fine, just inspect the rubber grommets

    the plastic holder for the wiring right above the engine is super brittle and really tiny bits of plastic fell into the engine. any ideas of how to get them out

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  Рік тому

      A you can try to vacuum them out using a shop vac by putting your hand around the hose and use a straw as a small adapter using your hand

      @@dannyjohnsonsgaragethanks for the idea think i got most of what i can see out. let's say there's still a couple small pieces i missed (about 1 or 2mm in size), what kind of potential damage could that cause? also are the spark plug gasket pieces supposed to be so hard to get in?

    What about the half- moon plugs? I heard they have to be removed and re-silicone when the valve cover gasket is replaced, as these half- moon plugs can leak as well.

    • @mronemanband1
      @mronemanband1 2 роки тому

      use silicone the half moons almost never leak use less your removing the cam shafts if they do replace them

    how do you put the 3 inner seals

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

      I pried up the small tabs on the inside of the valve cover and popped them in with a screw driver- but I omitted that part from the video because I replaced them as they were but the job had already been done by someone else and there were some comments that it was not correct..

    Do I need to put anything on the gasket when installing?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  2 роки тому +2

      It helps to put gasket maker on the sides where it bumps up
