Just picked up a 1965 Massey 304 and this is the best video Ive found so far. Sure looks cold there. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make the video. You rock brother.
Have an old 50a tlb have spent a ton of money on it. Have done a lot of work with it. These old machines have some serious power for a 2 wheel drive. Real power steering 2pedal hydro static. Best chain saw I've ever had.
I understand what you are going through on your "project machine". I rat holed a little money and found a "needs work" Massey 3165 with backhoe quick attached on. It was last used hauling big round hay bales on shaft spears mounted in the bucket. 30 years of sawmill and heavy equipment maintenance experience along with all my tools and an old small Alas lathe gets me through my many projects. Power steering cylinder missing valve The front axle pin boss was broken out. Hydraulic pump was plumbed with closed center non relieving loader valve and blew the case. Usual worn pins and no service work. So far this is what I have done. Serviced engine and cleaned fuel system I welded the cast axle boss back up and made a new pivot pin. Put new power steering cylinder on Installed a new correct loader valve and replace some hoses. Put missing check ball and spring in out rigger. Made new oversize pins for most of the bad or incorrect pins. Now making a thumb to set logs on my bucksaw infeed deck.
i have same tractor and similar circumstances, jut put 4" sure lift cylinders on loader have many 30 " white pine, hemlock, red oak...among many others. have a kh 60 mine hoe, but got my 165 industrial few weeks back...cylinders shot to princess auto had some cylinders, just had to weld some 3/4 steel saddles for them
If I were you I'd be looking out for another engine for it, never heard a Massey as rough as that. These engines are probably the most reliable tractor engines on the market. Looks like that one has had a hard life with little or no maintenance. Air filters ought to have given a clue straight off. Good luck with it.
Hi. New subscriber. I own a Massey Ferguson 50A. It's a hoss. Your getting yours fixed up very well. After you go through the ,engine. Use the recommended oil, which would be around 10w40 to 10w 50w. Use something like Sea fome to clean the pump and injectors just add it to the tank. there are other brands to clean and keep your diesel working better. I am looking forward to more on this machine. Liked. All my best.
Yesterday's tractors have most parts for your mf 40,and at a good price. Alot of parts available due to it being built in multiple countries. Bought my mf40 a year ago.i 💘 mine its a 1970

I've never seen anyone use more wrenches backwards before. Vice grips, crescent wrenches are directional by design! I was waiting for you to bust your knuckles the whole time...... lol! Google, how to use pliers, monkey wrenches, vice grips and crescent wrenches!
My mf30b just broke the shift fork. It'd been repaired poorly before. Please take care to not shift it too hard if you have the shuttle shift. Shits hard to find
Have use a block heater plug in to tractor for 30 mins before ready to use and 5 mins after getting started use for 5 to 10 mins more to help on cold starts or hot starts too !
I have the same motor i my Massey ferguson 135. And I can tell you that it is something wery wrong with the motor... The perkings AD3 152, is normally wery easy too start, my motor will start almost immediately even at negative 14 Fahrenheit. But by the amount of blow by that engine is producing when you run it, i would say that engine needs a complete rebuild. When you run the motor it smokes more than the exhaust😂 but parts for theses engine are cheap and easy too work on. Greetings from Norway😊👍
The way the hydraulics move apparently the hydraulic pump is in good shape. Enjoyed watching you tackle the cylinders. Would like an update later re if the Engine Restore helped the compression.
My god the poor man that has to take that oil filter off next is going to need that hole filter housing again because that filter is never coming off 😂😂 go tell it’s tight and add a quarter turn or tell your face gets red 😂😂
I learned a little teick from another u tuber ..if i get a small crock pot and fill it with hydro oil put your seals in the oil and let them warm a little they go on quite easy
The engine is clearly tired, but just by chance does it have a cold start device on the bottom of the pump? Turn it and it changes the injector timing to make starting easier. Some pumps have them, some don’t. But worth a look!
@@Frz45 Some pumps have buttons and some have a lever/cable you pull to activate the cold start function. Bosch pumps are the most advanced and had automatic cold start systems in the 50's

43.17 I thought you over use the crescent wrench, then you go for a pipe wrench, then break out the vice grip??? Mabey invest into some wrenches? Also, put the vice grip on the other way, it works better used correctly for the torque delivery and slips less.
Buys new air filter, 0:54 cuts relief slots using angle grinder... Anyone else see an issue using an abrasive wheel to modify a filter or just me? lol (seriously though, not the end of the world but I'd have considered using tin snips just to make sure. My luck would see the engine ingest some grinding dust and reboring itself while it runs lol)

Surely your air filter showing excess oil would indicate a bad cylinder-head valve or valve seat, could be why she's running rough/poor starting - just sayin'
