In the UK there are many people who only speak English. Because they are British born and bred. Unless of course they immigrated there like my family. I had to learn English as I went along. It dipendes because during the video it is said that he can speak in those 12 languages, but, you can't learn that much grammar or vocabulary only from listening to the tourists. I meam sure it's impressive that he learned 12 languages even if only some sentences, but from this to calling him the greatest of all polyglots there's a big difference. Saying some sentences and really master a language are two different things
yes google translator is really a joke it can’t translate romanized language and it’s translation sounds weird as well (most of the time) google translator don’t know how the people in the country speaks (nowadays everyone prefer their language + english) sometimes people gets confused “is it really our language?” like who use word ‘pratikriya’ (pratikriya= reaction) in these days
It also helps that when your at a younger age, i cant remember when exactly it stops, but you acquire languages as oppose to learning them which means you pick up on a lot more things like accent and tonal shifts a lot easier because your brain is hardwired to do so naturally to a certain age to help children communicate. This is why we dont need to teach thibgs like basic sentence structure and grammar to our children
I totally agree. IN 1954, in grade school,we were taught French. I still remember many words and phrases, even songs. About 10years ago, a Frenchman complimented my pronunciation and thought I had lived in France. I'm not greatly fluent, but I think many children are capable of being bi or tri lingual.

Then Japanese (I am still learning Kanji but am fluent in speaking as well as understanding hiragana and katakana) and lastly Español (was the easiest one to learn, atleast for me). I know how to write in hangul but I still have to become fluent in Korean. I am planning to learn French next (most probably)

It's why old kid shows like Dora the Explorer are so important, they teach kids to speak more languages along with many other important values.
