when Turner said "there is 2 options. bad and worse" he meant there is never be saving and rescuing others, obey the mission or not obey. this game is the last CoD game where the real war felt like

He also meant and reminded Pierson to PRESERVE as much life if possible, so that the mission would be sufficient.

Pierson failed to listen orders during the battle at kassarine pass (typo) His orders were to fall back and he didnt and his men got killed due to him. He still does what he wants like assaulting hill 493 by himself rather waiting for Turner. You have to remember what he received for not obeying orders. Which was an article 15 and a demotion so hes prob still suffering PTSD off screen from it so he treats the squad like this cause he wants to get the crap hes dealing off his chest.

Pierson is a character I pity more than anything. It's easy to pass him off as a cold-hearted jerk, he's a man broken by war from one REALLY bad experience. He thought his disobeying orders what caused Kasserine Pass, so his mindset was if he followed orders through, he wouldn't have to go through that again. I also think he avoided getting too close with anyone after that to avoid going through the pain of losing men he cared about again, so he started acting cold

The Call of Duty WWII characters were some of the best, especially Sergeant Pearson, who was very underrated.

True... While he didn't lose half as many men as Shepherd did half as fast as Shepherd did, I will say that Peirson did a better job coping. And while I don't at all think Shepherds actions should be okayed, I will say that Shepard had his reasons. He wasn't a completely evil man. But a mentally ill individual who couldn't heal or forgive himself for what happened. As we all know, Shepherd was the one who sent those 30,000 soldiers in to participate in the invasion looking for one target - Al Asad. But they only find out later that Al Asad was never even in the city he had those men invade. Therefore, his intel was off. Therefore, the invasion didn't even need to happen to begin with. So... Shepherd is going to blame himself for that of course and judgmental people are going to not let him live it down because of it. Cause it's never happened to him before, I'm sure. And as people will be people, they never let Shepherd forget it. So not only did he lose 30,000 of his men, but people are throwing it back in his face and possibly losing respect for him as well which definitely would NOT help him mental state. Then he finds out that Makarov was the unknown threat who gave the greenlight to set the nuke off in the first place. So Shepherd is probably thinking "Hold on? You're telling me a guy that I didn't even know was supposed to be there killed all my men like that?! Oh... it is so on." Shepherd, who is already not doing so well is definitely looking for revenge at this point. Not only revenge, but a hunger to avenge his 30,000 men who died at Makarov's hands. That's why Shepard is so dead stuck on getting Task Force 141 to kill Makarov throughout the campaign. But not only is he looking to get revenge on the man who killed his men so disrespectfully and avenging his fallen, but he also wants the war in the U.S. to happen so that he can defeat Russia with his military might and be seen as an American hero to all the people around the world and shut the mouths of those who mock him for running an invasion that didn't even have to happen which resulted in him loosing 30,000 men. Which means, he gets his revenge, gets to avenge his men, and gets people's respect back all in one stone. Then he's given a blank check. A traumatized, mentally unwell person engulfed in the hunger for revenge and a blank check which is the worst combination. As far as money goes, you're giving a mentally unwell individual untold power to carry on his agenda. Task Force 141 was causing problems for him as they were trying to get the war to end quicker than he wanted it to. So that's kinda why you see him try to kill the 141 multiple times throughout the campaign. So overall, Shepherd is a deeply messed up individual who didn't get the mental help he needed to control his emotions and desires for payback. And in the end, Shepherd lost much more than Peirson as he was killed at the end of Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Some of the things he was trying to do were good motivation. But he went about everything the wrong way. His first mistake, bottling up his guilt and trauma from losing 30,000 men on a mission that didn't need to happen since Al Asad wasn't even there. His second mistake, bottling up his hatred and resentment towards Makarov for killing his men and causing him pain. His third mistake, letting people who lost respect for him get into his head. His fourth mistake, not seeking a therapist who could've probably helped him deal with his pain in a healthier way. It really does suck to be a leader sometimes. Sure he did some very despicable things. But when you really dig into the lore of what happened, it leads you to why he did what he did and brings to light the unfortunate things that put him in his state of mind in the first place. You can really see that Shepard had a sad life cause of some real crapped up circumstances.

The only difference between Pierson and shepherd is one actually cares about his men and he is just following orders and staying on mission but who would have known from going to transformers to cod ww2 josh duhmal would still play a great character but who takes the cake in a fight peirson or shepherd me personally I don’t think Pierson will eat shepherds lunch and shepherd would make Pierson a great one less loose end but in the end both became the men they are because the loss of their men and another difference is one will sacrifice their life missions and order to save their men cause they’re more important then all of that to Pierson and shepherd will sacrifice his men to save his on life and the missions and orders because to himself he’s more important than all of that

I found out about everything the more I watched this game. What happened is that Peirson disobeyed orders and got more of his men killed than he would've originally if he had followed orders. This messed with Peirson. He not only follows orders, but he thinks that if he pretend to not care about his men, he won't get attached, and it would soften the blow if he had lost them. But keep in mind that while he's pretending to not care to try and make himself believe he doesn't care, he still cares. Pierson then again loses a bunch of men by following orders, also resulting in losing Turner and -as you said- gets colder and more serious while building a better emotionally defensive wall. This is why he pretends to not care about Losing Turner. He just doesn't know how to cope with the pain of losing men who dies under his command. So pretending not to care about them dying in the first place is his way of coping.

I’m just gonna say it, Pierson is a Character that is pretty high on my “Hated COD characters” list, his back story at Kasserine Pass is a huge part of why he’s like this, still, he just lashes out on his men for tiny things, I’ll probably hate him for a longgggg time

Pierson ignored orders, and more people needlessly died. Same with his Hill. He, again, ignored orders, attacked without the proper support, and it ended up getting the lieutenant killed. If anything, Pierson is just a bitter drunk, reckless, stupid, and a bully for picking on Zussman frequently. When I played this game, Pierson's constant complaining and yelling made me yell at my screen, telling him to shut up. Then I may, or may not have, aimed a few rounds Pierson's way. Who can say? War is chaos.
One of the tankers said Pierson got an Article 15 for what happened at The Pass. Article 15s didn't exist until the Korean War, when the Uniformed Code of Military Justice was created.
