I just realised thats the style of Christian music I grew up on!!! I'm 78, I love it. We called it "playing by ear"!! Not playing the musical notes, 😊 I love that music!!!
That's not what "playing by ear" means. Playing by ear means you can play an instrument but can't read music. You have no idea how to read formal music. Playing by ear means you know the song and you just play it. You can play by ear in classical, country, death metal, rock, bluegrass, swing, boogie-woogie, jazz, on and on. Playing by ear doesn't refer to the style. It refers to the ability.
