Hi! The first written test was "culture générale". So not an IQ test, but general culture, questions such as " What is the name of Marocco's capital?", "What theory is Einstein famous for?", " Who is the actual prime minister of Great Britain?", "How many teeth does a human have?" "In which year did the French Revolution happen?" etc... It seems that these recruits are not only expected to have mental strengh and quick thinking, but also to show global awareness and knowledge of our world and society. The second written test, after the orientation night and no sleep, was logic, problem solving and maths. It goes to show that the standard is pretty high to even pass the first steps of selection.

If you wonder where they are training; they say it's located in Tarbes (the "es" at the end is silent ;-) ), a city from the south of France. It's a gorgeous sunny area. The mountains in the background must be the Pyrénées, a mountain range which is also a natural frontier between France and Spain. For training in water, they might use the lakes near Tarbes, or with the helicopters they can easily reach the Atlantic ocean on one side, or the Mediterranean sea on the other side.
The water training takes place in Collioure. The mountain training is Mont-Louis.
Tarbes - Atlantique = 160 km. Tarbes - Méditerranée = 380 km.
Donc... le choix est vite fait. D'autant que plus près du coté Est des Pyrénées il y a d'autres centres d'entrainement.
The French Legion is one of the most hardcore units in the world, and they are the anchor of the Parachutist troops. They used to train with the U.S Marines in Guyana. Marines stopped training with them because they deemed the training way too harsh. Then again, it's surrounded with grey area and shady pratices. As with everything, there are good sides and bad sides of it. I think they train some of the best soldiers on the planet, and that's what people should remember.
Just saying, these soldiers are not from the legion.
"The French Legion is one of the most hardcore units in the world, and they are the anchor of the Parachutist troops."
They ain't. The core of paratrooper in France are the marines.
it's not the legion
There only one Legion's parachute regiment, it's the 2 REP. All the others are Marines (rpima) or infantry (chasseurs) or others (artillery, hussards etc.)

GCP and GCM aren't special forces, they still are conventional forces units. They sure does have a special training and works as support and back up for the special forces, but they are not.
Technically, it's not special forces in France but in the US it would be "grey" special forces. Like the thing just under the 13ème RDP which itself would be a bit like the Delta Force. The vocabulary is a bit different. In France SEALs wouldn't be considered special forces. Only team 6 would. And well there is also the CIRP which is technically not even special forces as they directly are under the orders of the equivalent of the CIA and can operate without uniforms.
Camera is looking crisper don’t know if you changed something but it’s mint💯
11:46 In 2017, the French armed forces began the gradual retirement of the FAMAS in favor of the HK416F.

The guy at 7 mn went to Saint Cyr, wich is the best officer school. It's like Westpoint in the US
Not really, you can enter west point only being a graduate from High School Graduated 12Th grade equivalent to the B.A.C in France . However for Saint Cyr , you can enter after a Master equivalent to 5 years of university ... To be noted that Saint Cyr does have a entry by test also that does not require a master but then you need after high school to do 2 years of university preparation for the entry in that school. those student can enter 3 years before a Master but they are very good and prepared for 2 years prior taking the test , (we call them prepa school in France that focus on preparing the for the test to those engineering schools ) To be noted that Saint Cyr does have a high school also that prepare for the Officer school, I guess this is where it can compare to West point
Saint Cyr is only 125 candidates per year , the selection are tuff on the brain side clearly only the best student can enter the school . Fun fact Saint Cyr was created by Napoleon in 1802 and West Point was created in the same year of 1802 . Both school have more than 222 year of existence, tradition is bound in both of them.
@@JULIENSELLIER They are highly comparable: officers schools that are considered among the best in the world.

It's just basic trick questions but can do damage lol, you can overthink it or not enough lol, took me a solid 5 minutes to be sure lmao
you can make it like that : x+(x-30)=36. -> x+x = 66 -> x=33
And unlucky for the guy but he got the first question wrong , the answer is not 36 day but 11 since it double every day and buy the 9th day it was at a quarter of the lake , so buy the 10th its the half of the lake and by the 11th its the enterity of the lake. french army is not on the representation, just on efficiency. That's why we have the legion
Do ypu think that special forces and militery units in general of allied countries should train together more? I think each different unit could bring something to the table, and generally improve the overall aspect of training itself. The stark difference between France and US is the pride a US soldier has to represent its country, I can tell you that most guys in the french army don't give 2 cents about their own country, they just want to blow things up. They all care about their own unit equally, since it's really a human trait and not specific to any culture. My point is that french Legion could learn from MI6 and the Marines, and vice versa.

I'm not Franch but as I understand it GCP would be most similar to Delta. All this candidates are officers, they are selected from parachute units of French armed forces including 2. REP (Foreign Legion)
No absolutly not. It is not special force. And as you see on the video, they are not all officer, the big blond dude is lieutenant yes, the other are troops.
And also their is gcp and gcp...
All french parachutist regiment have one gcp squad, but when you are a artillery regiment (like in the video) you are not on the level of infantry parchutist regiment (like foreign legion gcp or other marines parachutist...).
All are gcp, but infantery parachutist gcp are closer to special force.
Gcp are the "recon" squad of the parachutist brigade, it could be similar to marines recon or rangers recon, without the american logistic and money of course...
Delta force or green beret who are army are the equivalent of french 1er rpima (1st marines infantery parachustist regiment, or french SAS)
As an ex-military, i'm agree with the previous commentary. It's more similar to 75th rangers regiment, than the delta force or Navy seals for example. These guys are very trained and specialised, but they are not special forces. They are commando unit for a regular brigade.
The French unit responsible for clandestine operations is called the "Action Service" it depends on the "General Directorate of External Security" We have very little information about it unlike the special forces attached to the "Commandement des special operations"
Gcp is more like 75rgt
@@legend7409 yes it is.
Sadly french infantry paratroopers are not on the level of average rangers guy. They should train and equiped all french infantry paratroopers like 75th ranger, not only gcp. Small army need more commando type of soldier
🇫🇷🇫🇷
fun fact only pure blood french succed in those...im in the regular army...im a migrant so chill its not something racist....the real french are small but tought as hell....
with the end of conscription and the professionalization of the army, France is concentrated on these small elite units, very good, versatile but in the event of a high intensity conflict where it would be necessary to deploy large numbers of troops and a lot of equipment we would be very limited, barely 20,000 men...

@@swann67000 Italians don't make videos about their fights, much less about the special forces because in Italy the censorship of the various governments doesn't allow it. Italy is not Great Britain, there is a lot of embarrassment in letting people know what their soldiers really do. However, if you search on UA-cam for firefights with Italians there are: Bersaglieri in Nassirya, paratroopers and soldiers of the "Sassari" brigade in Bala Murghab in Afghanistan, photos of special forces of the GIS carabinieri wounded after a blitz against the Taliban, etc. ...They also wrote several books and many articles, despite the censorship something still came out. The Italians, unlike the Germans and the Spanish, after much initial political resistance, had real combat tasks, there is no need for videos, they are not people from TV shows like the Navy Seals. However, I will leave you some links where you can see something, copy paste on Google and UA-cam and search for "task force 45" on Wikipedia, it is in Italian but you can never translate it into English.

NH90 is the worst helicopter ever made. Germany and Australia have grounded them and Australia has scrapped them and buried the air frames. They have cost a lot of lives.
NH90 are fine, Australia have troubles with them because Australian Army and Navy try to cut the cost by not following the freaking Airbus maintenance planning...
Surprisingly the countries who follow the damn maintenance planning don't have the same problems :
Spain, Belgium, France, Finland, Greece, Italy, New-Zealand, Norway, Oman, Netherland, Qatar and Sweden.
Germany still uses them and the ones in Finland are working just fine. There must be some shitty helicopter builders in Australia🤷
NH90 is a good helicopter.
Australian decision to ground them is political, it's not because the helicopter is bad.
Airbus recently explained the the accident was because of a human error. (And of course, as every stuff, if you don't take care of it, it won't work as it should. Australia should just pay some tec' and everything is gonna go well)
