you are right, Suga is pronounced just like Sugar without an R. Agust (pronounced like the month August) D is his stage name for his solo works (Suga spelled backwards and D for Daegu where he is from). He writes, composes and produces all his songs, this is from his first mixtape Agust D, you should also check out "Daechwita" from his second mixtape "D-2".

This is a common misconception/mistake, but it is actually not pronounced that way. Yoongi says it’s short for “shooting gaurd”, his basketball position.
It’s pronounced with the ‘oo’ sound in shooting. SHOO-ga. Or another way to explain it - say the English word shoe followed by “ga”. It does NOT have ‘u’ sound in the English word sugar. 💜

My fav is Black Swan or Louder than Bombs. Black Swan, goes more contemporary, but has a message of the fear of losing their love for music. Louder than Bombs, uses the contrast of their voices to make a beautiful song. It's very cinematic.
Be careful of some of the lyric vids. The ones that have the most views tend to also have the most incorrect lyrics. BBTS9717, AfTaehyung are two good channels for lyrics.

The reason why its called kpop is because its a whole package and a culture.
They adopted the western pop/hiphop music and added a lot of their own creating a whole new culture. Its not just the music, the Koreans groups you often see perform their songs with intense choreography as well, which is not really seen in the west. The artists you see go through a period of training that lasts from few months to years before they actually debut. Its a cut throat competition to who gets to debut and even if they do debut, not all groups are able to survive the industry. Many end up disbanding. So all the artists that you hear about from Kpop are the survivors and victors who came through.
Its a whole culture and each kpop artist is versatile and talented in a number of areas which may include singing, rapping, dancing, producing, fashion, playing instruments, many go into acting, and almost all of them are bilingual or multilingual in some way (Japanese, Chinese, English, etc. along with Korean).
So yeah....by Kpop they don't mean just the music....its a whole entire world of its own tbh.
ON (kinetic film manifesto) is the group song that drew me in; the vocals and the dancing are absolutely STUNNING
RUN mv is excellent; the vocals again are great and the storyline is really interesting (it might be intense as a first impression though)
Blood Sweat and Tears is another amazing one; the vocals, dancing, storyline, visuals, references, and cinematography blew me away

That faster rap part? I have it all figured out. Korean is written/spoken in syllables, not letter by letter like English, so it would be the equivalent of an English speaker saying "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" EIGHTEEN times - in LESS than a minute - without fucking up the pronunciation once, of course. He is one of the fastest rappers in K-Pop and comes within the Top Ten fastest worldwide.
As far as songs to check out..."Ma City" is one of my favorites. It's an older one and is often underrated IMHO, but I absolutely love it. (NOTE: Including pre-debut songs, albums, solo releases, collabs, covers...and even full-length songs for commercials...they have just over 1,000 songs, so picking only one is...VERY difficult!)

Suga is quiet off stage but in his raps he expeesses all his right and feelings about everything from haters to his battles with his mental health & ego. His flow switchups are hard to beat. But in case no one has mentioned it yet, RM's "Joke" is one fav solo. Because he speaks the best English, his wordplay, rhymes, metaphors are fire. If you clock the lyrics in Joke, you'll see what I mean.... But welcome to the rabbit hole of "kpop". The genre blending (hiphop, r&b, rap, pop, etc) started in the early 90s so there's a LOT to discover. Though korea has some amazing non kpop idol artists (like r&b, rap, hip hop). Looking forward to more content!

Here’s the kicker. The group is about to have to go into the military (which is required in South Korea). Jin, the oldest, is joining before the end of the year.

I recommend On: Kinetic Manifesto, Dope, No More Dream (their 2013 debut release), Fire, Not Today. A few solo projects: Singularity by V, Daechwita by Agust D, Joke by RM, Chicken Noodle Soup by J-Hope, The Astronaut by Jin, Stay Alive by Jungkook, and Serendipity by Jimin. But I'd hold off calling yourself ARMY until you watch some documentaries and explanation videos. When you learn more about them as people and what they've been through and how they are still so kind and funny is when you REALLY feel like an ARMY. They are amazing people. But I like your enthusiasm. Keep going.

Also, Suga gets his name from his favorite basketball position (shooting guard), so in that context, it's pronounced similarly to sugar. HOWEVER, the people saying it's pronounced 'Syoo-ga' are also correct, because that's the closest pronunciation to it's Korean spelling (슈가). AgustD is Suga reversed, but also references his hometown (Daegu Town SUGA).
BTS's rap line is simply unmatched. And they all have very distinct styles so it's no use comparing them imo. I think you might love Ugh! or Outro: Tear for starters. 👍

Americans think of kpop as a genre, cause they like to stuff people into pre-made boxes, you know? But kpop is just an industry. Like American pop. That's all.
They have so many different genres that they do. But to start with, Paradise & Love Maze are great group songs that are more on the pop/rnb side. Their song Idol is a staple, but if you watch it, you have to watch the music video. And you should really watch some interviews and vlogs at some point. Another hype one is Baepsae or in english "Silver Spoon". Their personalities are even better than their music. You're bound to love them

They have so many like group raps songs at starting and they are soooo...dope!!the rap line escpecially has songs before their debut in 2014..at first there were only 3 of them...and their solos at their young age...they are amazing ..even i was not in rap first ...but suga is damn rapper!! Now that's what I call, " a stone cold sweat ". These guys, make people, actually have noticeable physical reactions, that the reactors, were DEFINITELY NOT EXPECTING! At the end of the video there are so many types of reactions,: thirsty..very very thirsty, sweating, goosebumps, exhaling only when they start turning blue after MV concluded , eyes wide or with tears streaming, it really hits different with each creator, but they hit hard , no matter who you are, or what vibe they shook you hard with. Really hard.

Thank you for speaking on categorizations based on race vs the actual music. They have songs in full English and they’re not considered pop or rap, but kpop. And they have jpop for Japan, like - what? You said it on your first BTS react video re: “black country” is just country (Lil Nas X). Honestly, this is why “The Voice” resonated with so many people because the blind reacts were so pure for the music and talent, not appearances/race. BTS transcends the confines of kpop.

Everyone's recommendations are great; but, to really appreciate their singing voices (rappers included), react to their cover of Coldplay's "Fix You", their appearance on 'Tiny Desk Concert', or their performance of "I Can Make It Right"/Stephen Colbert's show. All seven of the members are legitimate/genius vocal superstars. Also, their performance of "Idol"/Graham Norton Show, where they were down one full man/Jimin & an injured Jungkook could only sing, not dance...they still delivered an amazing live performance.
