Mid indeed, lol, people are funny sha. This is Asake's best, most professional, and most matured work ever.
People also rubbished the last album until Lonely at the top blew and Amapiano was nominated for the Grammys
I listened to lonely at the top the day he released his previous album and I was damn sure it was going to blow and it did.
We can call this new album whatever we like, it's based on our understanding of music, music exposure and ability to pay attention to details, let's see what happens eventually.
By this time next year, we would know if it's mid or not, for now, people can say whatever they like.

If an artist is singing RnB, the first day he tries to rap, he will be criticised. Innovation is one of the major features of an artist.
Some of the producers did what magicsticks cannot do.
We all know music taste changes, and the ability to sing different genres, styles, and patterns makes an artist relevant for a long time.
Check the Olamide style in 2012/2013, 2015/2016, 2019/2020 and the present; if he sticks to ID Cabasa and the same style, he would have fallen off.
But everybody doesn't need to appreciate a project.

If you don't understand something or like it, maybe it's not for you. Asake’s latest album, ‘Lungu Boy’ is underwhelming and struggles to meet the standards set by his first two albums, ‘Mr. Money with the Vibe’ and ‘Work of Art’. I believe this may be due to two main reasons:
1. The ‘Afro-Fuji’ novelty has worn off - When Asake burst onto the scene with his brilliant alchemy of Afrobeats, Fuji and soulful crowd choruses (shout out to Magicsticks), he created a new, fresh sound for a genre begging for change. This explains why he went straight to A-list with his sound gaining wide acceptance globally.
Asake doubled down on this sound and even while he tweaked it and experimented with it, he retained the soulful core of his crowd choruses - most of which is missing in his latest offering.
In ‘Lungu Boy’, the singing feels flat, lacking that bite or hunger that made him a staple in the first place. Fatigue has apparently set in - 3 years at the top and dropping back to back albums will do that to you.
2. Less reliance on original collaborators: A lot of what is missing in this album may down to the limited involvement of the people that made us fall in love with Asake’s sound in the first place.
Magicsticks produced all 12 songs on MMWTV, 11 out of 14 songs on ‘Work of Art’ and just 2 out of the 15 songs in ‘Lungu Boy.’ The songs he produced ‘Wave’ and ‘Fuji Vibe’ gave us the good ol’ Asake vibe a lot of people crave.
While I am all for artistes experimenting with new producers, there is no point in fixing what is not broken or changing a winning formula so radically.
Granted, P.Priime and Sarz did their thing on this project and even replicated the ‘crowd chorus’ in some of the songs, but it seemed to be lacking soul. The chemistry that made an Asake album a cohesive, sonic and storytelling experience was deficient.
Again, Olamide’s pen was evident in Asake’s first two albums but conspicuously missing in this one.

Don’t get me wrong, this album will smash it at the charts. Why? Asake’s fanbase has grown significantly since his last offering and everybody will rush to stream.
Also, he featured musical heavyweights who dropped solid verses - Travis Scott's appearance will solidify Asake's crossover to the US 🇺🇸 while Central Cee and Stormzy's appearances will lock down the UK.🇬🇧 Wizkid FC will work their wonders in Nigeria 🇳🇬 and every other part of the world.
For an artiste that barely features others in his album projects - his last two albums had one guest feature each - these carefully curated features explains the album's ambitions: international appeal. 💯
That said, it is his first two albums - MMWTV and ‘Work of Art’ - that offer superior replay value.
It is concerning that Asake, who slays every feature, was bodied in his own songs. The featured artistes arrived with their A-game and kinda snatched the songs from our Lungu boy. Fatigue, most probably.
My recommendation to Mr. Money? Rest up, retrace your steps, realign with your original collaborators and give us a banger of an album the next time. And No, we don’t mind if it takes two or three years.

Also Active is nice. Unlike work of art where i didnt and have never skipped on song , in this album i have skipped the majority. for me its Fuji Vibe, Active, the central cee one and MMM okpari nothing else. Thats my stance and nothing can change it.

Yea, some songs are really good on there but the project itself is mid and ‘Lungu boy’ is mid as well. ‘Wave’ and ‘Fuji vibes’ are good songs but the album as a whole is mid.
