    Janice, I'm so glad someone posted your video, of you making lomi-lomi salmon. From that video, I started watching almost all of your videos. I'm absolutely fascinated by how easy you make it look to prepare many of the local favorite foods. I'm also interested, because you live in South Korea, and my military son, is about to be stationed there in a couple of months. He's been stationed in Okinawa for the past 6 years. I'm originally from Hawaii, and I live in Las Vegas. My son, was born in Hawaii, but we left the islands when he was very young, yet I raised him to eat all of the local food. He especially loves, Asian food. So, with that said, he is going to be out of his comfort zone, a little apprehensive to be stationed in Korea, not knowing anyone. I wish you can meet him. He could use a good home-cooked island meal, with someone like you, who has so much Aloha. He is 25 years old, still single, and like I said, he's worried about making new friends...he won't know anyone when he gets there. Well, enough of that. I am enjoying your cooking videos, because of your personality. You've taken the island and Aloha spirit with you. And.... I love Aiea; I have a lot of family in that area, so I love being out there. I'm from Hawaii Kai. Now, I'm going to try to make some Poki, yummmm. Mahalo

      Yay, Thank You, Janice. Well, my son is still in Okinawa (Kadena AFB), and has to come backk to the States for a couple or few weeks of training before he is sent to Korea. Approximately should be there in late March, I think. He shared with my oldest son's girlfriend, who is half Korean (and can she cook, my fav is Chicken Katsu with her home made dipping sauce), that he's sad he has to leave friends he became close to during his 6 years there, and is a little nervous going to a new place. So, what I want to do for him, has to be totally covert. You know, it's just like when my oldest son was in Georgia for college, he graduated from Kamehameha Schools, there was a local family there, that heard he was going to be there, and reached out to him, made him feel that home away from home feeling. I so appreciate this. I will keep in touch. I look forward to more of your awesome videos. Aloha

    I was just surfing around the web looking for inexpensive recipes. I stumbled upon this video of you cooking so effortlessly and joyfully. Even though I haven't tried this recipe yet, I had to comment on how much you made me smile and giggle during the video. I am the same way when I'm cooking. Cooking puts me in "the zone", or my "happy place". Thank you so much for sharing and I will definitely be cooking this tonight for dinner.

    Haven't tried this with panko. Will make some tomorrow.
    Your videos are great! Keep them coming!
    My mother in law is from Hawaii and is now in her 80's. Unfortunately she can't cook very much anymore and when she tries to tell us how to cook it doesn't come out quite right (Leaving out ingredients or saying something but means something else).
    Your videos are easy to follow and I'm sure she will be happy when we start making some food from these vids.

    Aloha Janice! You always see corned beef hash patties at old style okazu places. Unfortunately it is getting harder to find old style okazu places. I like them with a lot of potato in it. Thanks for the recipe. I'll have to try making them. I tried to make meat jun but mine didn't come out as nice as yours. :( Your videos always make me smile. Keep them coming! Mahalo! :)

    Why is this recipe Hawaiian? I didn't see any Hawaiian pineapple or Hawaiian herbs in this recipe. This is an American recipe (corned beef patties), I imagine because the ingredients are very plain.However, your sense of humor is the best part of this recipe.

      John Bogdon Why does dubbed "Hawaiian" ingredients have to be used for a dish to be considered Hawaiian? You wouldnt consider ramen to be Italian because it uses noodles or South American rice dishes to be Asian because they incorporate rice.

      HAWAII IS A STATE. IT IS A STATE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. RECIPES LIKE THIS, LOCO MOCO, SPAM MUSUBI COME FROM THE PRESENCE OF US TROOPS ON THE ISLAND DURING WWII AND THE RATIONS / INGREDIENTS THEY USED. HAWAIIAN FOOD IS A MIXTURE OF AMERICAN FOOD, JAPANESE FOOD, CHINESE FOOD, FILIPINO FOOD, AND PRE-USA-TAKEOVER HAWAIIAN FOOD.

    • @Punchy_Portuguese
      @Punchy_Portuguese 5 років тому

      Umm...... pineapple isn't native to Hawaii either. It's a style we use here in the Islands. Our food is considered "local style" because of our diverse population, but if it were labeled as such, most people wouldn't understand the reference.
