so glad I found this video. I've been trying to find the story line on Gears of War for a while. Big fan of the games but never was able to get the books or comics. Thanks for this video and explaining the backstory of Marcus Fenix.
I thought of that before but it probably wouldn't of been as popular. "Gears of War Lore" is something people would actually search for. Not to mention there was a video a long time ago before I started making it by a Lore channel that does Lore for all games. They had one Gears of War Lore video and I think their video helped mine when anyone would search that title. XD
This was a great video, I think anyone who plays gears should read the novels, they provide so much information that's not in the games, particularly about Marcus's relationships with Carlos, Dom, Anya and his Dad. P.S. my favourite line from The Slab. 'He reached into his jacket and took out one of the letters. He held it up so Marcus could see the handwriting on the battered COG military envelope. The reaction was instant, silent, and utterly broken. Campbell had beaten the shit out of Marcus without getting so much as a whimper from him, but the sight of that neat, methodical handwriting had brought tears to his eyes.'
You did a good job man! I really liked how in depth Anya & Marcus' relationship was years before the first game. They were young when they started sleeping together. I like how Dom told Any that Marcus never spends the night with her because he gets nightmares and screams in his sleep.
Marcus has become, hands down, one of my all time favorite gaming characters. I love how constantly angry he is but at the same time he's such a deep and complex character that have learned how to deal with the cruelty of war and lost
I think you're right that guard that had it out for Marcus has probably never seen a wretch before if he thought dogs would be enough to put down Marcus.
Note:when Griffin(Ice T) callee Anya a "bitch" in gears if war 3 when you go meet him during the whole cutscene where he shows he captures Dizzy and what not,you can see Marcus wanting to beat the living shit outta him just because he called her a bitch but he waited til he finished saying what he needed to say

theres further more questions to this bringing this too gears of war 3 map the slab like "which one is Marcus cell" and "was Rese the one executed on the electric chair as if the locust has patched him and executed him there?"just like how the locust would catch ppl and in prison them or leave them somewhere for them to be tortured shown in the mids of gears 2 and the ending of gears 4

20:00 is part is a little weird though, Dom says "Man if command knew I was here to get you, I'd be in some deep shit!" So I don't get why it would be disobeying when command wanted Marcus out to service because Hoffman was running out of soldiers.
Overall a good video, however I would like to correct a few inaccuracies; 1) Moreno didn't tear the rug up he had just taken out and was playing keep away from chunky marcus came up from behind pulled it away and tossed it to chunky 2) Moreno says something like (paraphrase don't have the book in front of me) "want to go Fenix?" And Fenix replies "sure I have plenty of time". 3) the fight doesn't start until Moreno reaches for the knife, in which Fenix barrels into him, stealing him and starts throwing blows. 4) the beating he took from the warders actually endeared him to the guards to the point chunky starts making Marcus a rug and when they start digging an escape tunnel they invite Marcus yup join them (initially refuses later joins them)
At the beginning of the Aspho Field book, Delta knew someone was following them but didn't know who. It almost seems like Marcus thought it was Reeves. If she would have written The Slab 1st, I'm sure those characters would have made a reappearance or at least a mention. I'm sure that would have been one of those moments.
there should be a gears of war movie not about any main charicters but instead a found footage movie like cloverfeild and walkthrough the city with a group of civilians trying to survive and the cog fighting them off.
hey nice vid. you should make another one talking about how the COG and ICR (or whatever the name of the other humans the COG went to war with for 70+ years) started. maybe even how the Locust started. AND MAYBE even how the Swarm started.
I never understood the slab part, if the locust was wiping out humanity how come they sent people to the prison and how if the gog and locust are always at war why were the prison looked after seems a waste of resources

The Gears fictional universe would make for a great series. Could go as far back as their travels in space to reach that planet, to the founding of the planet, to the events prior to the Wars just starting, to the war with the locusts. It is just a good setting for stories.
I never actually read the books. i just played the game. i have read all the comics, and they do have quite a fair amount of back story on Marcus fenix and the members of delta and ect. But the book would go way further into detail, and would make gears of war so much better i think. so im diffidently going to pick up the books for sure. Thanks for the video man it was awesome.

In one of the books they mention that Gears are juiced up and mentally conditioned, so every gear is massive and hyper violent.
