Amazon's WORST Crayfish Trap? (Umbrella Trap Test!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лис 2020
- I bought two umbrella crayfish traps from Amazon recently and tried to see how well they'd work at catching crayfish. I didn't think they'd hold up great, but even I was surprised by the results. Hopefully this saves you some wonder and some money in your future purchases of traps!

Wow those traps took it hard, agree with your assessment that it was probably turtles that tore em up. Guess I’ll steer clear of those kind of traps. Congrats on 10K , bounced to over 11K pretty quick.
Please make more videos. I really like watching them while I’m fishing 🎣
Thank you so very much for saving me a ton of money. I was actually about ready to buy a couple of these. I can only imagine what a crab would do to those or any other type ocean creature as well.
Thanx you saved me time of waiting for them on Amazon and thanx for saving me the money
YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!
I'm glad you posted this video friend, I'd already looked at these traps once.
Man thanks for posting this video. I was totally going to buy these traps and i'm glad i didn't. this was really helpful.
At least you found out what traps not to use!
I was very interested with those traps. They look quite promising, but I knew at some point it's going to be a bummer. Thanks for the review bro!
Have you tried the calendar traps that have the spring coil in them? Had goodness success with them.
Right on bro you just saved me $40, I was about to buy two of them! you now have a new subscriber!
hey pal, just curious what is the best trap you would recommend?
thanks man.
I have 2 of these, $6 on Temu. I haven't tried them for crawfish. However, this past fall I tried one out for minnows. I baited with a small piece of leftover cheese powerbait block from one of my hoop nets. In the span of just a few hours this trap accumulated several thousand shiners....
What do you do with the crayfish? Do you have bcc a holding tank for them?
So if I home made one stronger and didn’t leave it for as long it would work great?
Doesn't look like they would survive the retrieval even if turtles hadn't already torn them open. Thank you for saving me some money.
I was making sure not to snag any sticks on the way in. That alone would rip these things open!
Thanks for posting
I used one of these traps in Kentucky and they worked great for peach and minnows, but you had to watch them and pull up when the fish were in the trap.
perch?
Brother I've been using these trap for years and years, and and i haven't shredded a single one! I always catch lots of signal crayfish including small pan fishes in the Pacific Northwest of WA state every summer, and I have 3 of them. Also, the way you set your traps like placing baits like right around the sides giving the crayfish an easy reach is not very smart. The goal to this trap is to have em work for their meals and have em fixated in the center as they try to look for an entrance point towards the inner center where the bait is placed! Not around the sides where their little claws can easily reach over and take small bite size pieces which saves the critters a lot of trouble of going inside. Not to mention making a jackass out of you Lol! I say you should skewer a single fish then put em in the center not around the sides.
Ya they work fine. A long pole helps pulling it out straight & not getting you wet.
Hey, I've been looking for one of these with good reviews and haven't found any. Do any of your guys recommend a brand or where to buy them from. I don't know what I should be looking for?? Thanks ☺
Thanks for this video man I was just about to buy a bunch of them I'll try a stronger trap!
I think the best crawfish trap you can make very very cheap is a 5 gallon water bottle for a water machine and cut the top off and turn it around so the spout is pointing inside. The hole is perfect size and it is big and durable. Same concept as the 2 liter bottle or whatever.
Thanks. I'm going to try your version.
Please make a video or post pictures
Thanks you saved me some money 👍
I have one and love it. But it’s hasn’t had a turtle and gator get ahold of it yet lol
Underrated channel really good man
Lol , reminds me when I tried to grow oysters in an laundry bag in fresh/brackish water ; that idea didn't last me long . I did perferate an 5 gallon bucket with drill bits and first threw it in a ditch for a few days and caught a few crawldads but no bait was used which the idea was that it would trap by means of providing cover for the critters but I'm sure an turtle would have tore through that relatively easy ; an metal trashcan would probably work though and you could probably use bungee cords to hold the lid on , that is if it's hard to find traps . I might dig that perforated bucket out , actually use it to hold my cast nets which allows them to dry faster , and actually throw some bait in them then drop it into the bay . If I do I'll keep you informed ! Actually the bay has eels so it might not last .
Do you think they would be ok for catching salt water bait fish
Thanks for the review. You saved a lot of people from wasting their money on useless products.
These traps are ok-ish. I'm in Northern California and the way I make them work is to use a can of cat food from the dollar store. I have had like 5 cat fish wesiel into the trap. I would guess that a 10lb cat or turtle totally broke them.
What should I buy then?
S*%t I just purchases 2 today before I saw your video 🥺😞. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 thank you for sharing 🙂
Very cheap nets 👊 BUT I advise Bait hung on centre post ✅ Do not drag, Lift ✅ Works well ATB
I can see a use for this in private ponds with bluegill overpopulation/ stunting problem, it definitely needs to be suspended and used temporarily in the daytime. It does save a lot of space
I use mine all the time and I only paid $7.60 for ea trap on ebay and they have held up awesome over last 2 years. . . . . . . . .
I was thinking about getting a trap like this but after seeing this video I think I'll stick with my gee's crawfish and minow traps after watching this. Thank you for making this video.
Probably the right choice. Unless it's a perfect spot with no snags, turtles, or anything around that could damage the mesh, it's probably not worth it!
@@livefreefishmore1008 that's true. Thank you.
thanks bro
How often can you eat crayfish? Are they like fish where you should only eat them once a week? Also how often can you trap the same spot and get results?
Who said you should only eat fish once a week? You can eat crawfish or fish etc. as long as the source is clean i.e. clean water
my question is do you ever catch any with eggs or the the pregnant ones not come out for food
Ok let me tell you what the issue was, the trap is good however to leave it overnight was your error right there, u created bait for real monsters that feed at night. It will be more effective being monitored in light of its material it wasn’t designed to keep bigger predators from bursting a hole and having a feeding frenzy with the crayfish you helped to prepare for them and I know many creatures that just love cray
Was there slime on the traps. It could have been eels that tore your traps up. Maybe the claws of the crayfish and turtle
Thats why i go with bucket traps
where did you go its been two yars what happened man u have 18 k subs please start uploading
Im using these traps and they work fine but im gonna try to get a metal one
They are not designed for overnight soaks.
Bruh, I NEED MORE VIDEOS!!! Where you at???
It's so amazing love from India
That's a huge bummer. But thanks for the video anyway, at least now we know what not to buy
They do great for the money is streams only but will only last one season. But when u can keep 10 of them in a backpack and only weighs 2 lbs can’t beat them
Jack Black vibes and i love it
Also chicken can be used as bait.
Got one sitting in the Delaware River as I watch this... also have 3 cat poles out
Overnight?
That's one craw trap I'm not getting. Thanks bro
At least you found out what bait not to use..
You should do ace hardware cheapest trap
Are you still making videos?
Lol I just ordered 2 of them lol
Attack of the otter.
Your videos make me sleep lol
When you took that trap out of the box I thought "that's a horrible trap".
When I tryed them they loaded up w catfish and all the barbs were stuck. Had to cut them free. Fun day.
I think there's too many fish inside causing the damage of the trap or may be the trap was drag due to the trap was so light weight. I fully watch the video
Any one has proper trap antirust anti penetration pls inform me the brand name and from where to buy
First off thank you for the video very informative, but I am most curious, what ripped those nets… I’m pretty sure the crayfish did not do that, a snapping turtle perhaps I don’t know?…
I'm guessing a snapping turtle had his way with the trap.
I've experienced the same with my traps in salt water, the crabs tear this thing to shreds with ease.
What kind of crabs can do that? I have no problem with these trap catching green crabs so far. Of course these things are for fun, some thing you can have in your trunk, so dont expect they can last long.
Not suppose to leave those over night
possibly snapping or other turtles are messing up the traps to get at the fish
These cheapo traps are good on the go and then throw away.
When i fly even abroad, i buy a couple of these. They are folded.
I use them while on vacation and throw them out when done.
Bait bag is there for a reason
Are you not doing UA-cam anymore?
Very good I like watching the video Using umbrella traps is very effective Master bubu umbrella
Turtles will chew through the mesh
I hate this happened but you need to drop your net straight down and then go back and pick it straight up, walk out in the shallow water drop it down and pick it back up and NOT drag it across big SHARP ROCKS and your next net might withstand it. Good luck to you. Again sorry it got torn up on ya.
Very glad I didn't order this before watching this video what a rip off terrible I would be so mad I'd return them like that 😂
Maybe it’s what you use them for. Use them as bait traps and no issues.
Eating ? Or bait
Is great for catching lil birds for fun. Cuz it's didn't do well for fish r crayfish when I purchased mine. Smh
an hour or two is all you need to put it in the water. doesn't matter what trap you using if you bait it right. I think you shouldn't have just chunked in two large dead fish. that's why it has a pocket. waste of possible cut bait the way I see it.
I use a woman's stocking and cut it to tie into the center of what ever trap I'm using. always works.
I use this trap to trap invasive lizards in Florida and they work great
Can you make another video on catching squid some time??
If they come in next summer for sure!
@@livefreefishmore1008 thank you most people don’t reply
lol lol 😂
I know someone who bought this and told’m that is not going to work….lol
This is what I use steal traps
If you're using this on river then it will break. You can only use this in pond and lake, not in those water source with rocky area.
Too bad I didn't see this before I bought these traps.
Rough! Hope it helps others at least!
I HAVE THAT TRAP TOO, XD
I bought these also and I called Amazon customer service and they gave me my money back and they paid to ship them back
You dont need a knife to open those amazon boxes, the tape is rips easy.
Yes while the design looks effective, the material is way too flimsy.
Crayster Traps are the overall best.
Especially Crsyster's, Snake River Trap!
Ottor might have tore them up...
thats Chinese crap for ya great video keep em coming
Some new videos would be awesome, you have the best content on UA-cam
Wanna see them work, cut the baits open. Then try it....
I personally don’t like it since it always comes broken
Are you sure it was literally and not figuratively? I think youve already worn that word out.
Best for minnows but not for crab
🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🐶🐶🐶
That catch too bad for two big bucket
ভাই আমার জন্য একটা পাটাই দেন,, টাকা পয়সা নাই,,
Lol
terrible experience! These traps work great with food that smells bad and in the water for 30 Minutes! If you leave it the whole night, the logic says, it will be eaten as well! I have them and work great, it must be short periods of times inside water, out again, change food if necessary, inside again for 30 minutes, etc, etc Greetings from Germany
You probably had a turtle 🐢destroy your trap
