I’m Madeiran - the combination of fish with banana or passion fruit is quite new. It has been around since 1990’s, upmarket restaurants created these combinations then other restaurants just copied it. I don’t know anyone that cooks those dishes at home. Traditionally, fruits in Madeiran are eaten on its own or as a desert.
Thank you so much for your reviews, have eaten at the mad market twice during our vacation and the food is to die for, very authentic, tasty and great value for money. Service is extremely friendly and very helpful 😃
We must have caught Mad Market on an off night. Four of us left disappointed after pretty mediocre dinners. The mussels were bland, and the mains which were chicken, scabbard, and octopus were average. We’ve had much better dinners at other places, Cris’s, Leeno’s, Matucci’s and Ilha Kaffe were all superior.
Say Jessica, how about a review for veggie and vegan food in all of the places you stay? I mean the army of Vegetarians is growing every day and then there are of course the Vegan people, also an army growing in size every day. See, we'd like to go places as well, like you do, and maybe even the places you've been, but seeing you eat the things you eat, these are not very tempting for Veggie's and Vegan's... So how about it.. ;-) ?
@@aWanderlustForLife OK, well, for us Veggies and Vegans, the quality of food and the taste of and the international variety it is as important to us as other food maybe to you. And since you go places and obviously want to inform your viewers I am looking forward to your personal tasting experiences with Veggie and Vegan food as well! So just pointing out that they may be available just won't do it, I mean it's nice to know it's there...but what does it taste like? Just like other food the local differences between one or the other Pub, Cafeteria or Bistro or Restaurant can be huge and can determine whether one should go there or one should avoid that place! So go taste Veggie and Vegan food and let us know !
@@dutchyjhome I totally understand where you are coming from, but I'm not a big veggie fan. I'm sorry! If I find out some of my friends go to similar places and are vegan/vegetarian, I'll let you know. Maybe I'll try to do more in Amsterdam to get some practice ;)
@@aWanderlustForLife The fact that you are not yet a veggie or vegan means that a new world can open up for you and you are only at the beginning of this development; like a closed flower in early spring that slowly but surely opens as spring passes and summer takes over and will eventually come to full bloom, thus contributing again to bees and biodiversity. So fear not Jessica, your transition to veggie and/or vegan will open your eyes and expand your world and in the end it will be worth it. You are ready ;-) !
Everything looked quite good! I usually don't think of Madeira when it comes to European travel, but it looks like a place I need to check out someday!

Good to know and thanks for sharing!
Lovely tip about the prego special. I have been to Madeira several times but this is the first I hear about it - great thanks
Loved the end with the poncha! Madeira has the best food 😍😍
Ohhhh the Poncha 😂 I only wish I'd go back again with friends to have another fun night!

Oh no! I'm so sorry you didn't have a good experience 😔 I appreciate the other recommendations, though.
Looks like you're having a good time! I love Madeira, I was there for 3 times and it was great! Great food, great drinks! Enjoy your time there! 👍💥
It was a pretty epic trip and can't wait to go back!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to do some research and share more info like if a place has vegan/veggie options.

Regarding the chocolates, the "Uau" in "Uaucacau", it's equivalente to "Wow" in english. It has the same meaning and you say it in the exact same way!
Thank you!
To quote Richard Ayoade from his episode of Travel Man re: Poncha “You Can Taste The Savings..”
I meant to re-watch that before going! It's a great show.

I feel like the island has so much to offer! We were there for almost two weeks and would definitely go back.
Madeira is very European!
wow am i lucky with my portugeuse nurse
islanda di madeira you were ON the island of madeira
Yes, it's awkward to say and I have this problem with other islands as well. Many say "in" so that's what comes out from me, too.
Limpets not limpmets?
Limpets
Of all the things you could put on fish... I guess Madeirans like sweet food?
Lots of bananas and lots of Scabbard. Makes sense to me! And it's actually pretty good!
That’s for the tourists, fish and fruit is quite new! Definitely not a traditional dish!
Madeira also known as Flowerisland
I didn't know that!
Madeira is known as the Pearl of the Atlantic!
That meat espetada looked like the worst I have ever seen in Madeira sorry but as long as it tasted good for you than that’s what matters
The best we had was at a winery but this one was also delicious! Looks can be deceiving.
@@aWanderlustForLife My wife is Madeiran and she and all her family agreed that bit was poor sorry
