For meat, try La Vaca Negra (a bit far from the city centre but it's worth it). For unique old fish recipes, Jaquet in Rua de Santa Maria. For picados (Madeiran Tapas), Banana's Pub.

Live this video, a few familiar places plus a few new ones to try on our next visit, I so need to try thise chocolates. We loved Bar no 2 when we stayed at the Pestana Carlton on our first trip to Maderia, considerably cheaper than the hotel bar , with a great vibe, and as you say the Prego is just delicious . Also check out Bar Caracas in the old town, a fantastic tiny locals bar, we drank lots of Coral Tonica, the dark beer, and were plied with free pork tapas . Can't wait to return.

Awesome! Well, breakfast is a tricky one because it isn't really a big thing there. Most people just have a quick coffee and pastry. So any bakery, including a confeitaria in the video is a good option. But Prima Caju is also nice, it does nice pancakes and muesli bowls. The Loft is another which does similar things. Same with Three House, which does great coffee too and has a wonderful view. Art Corner Cafe may also interest you. But there isn't a 'traditional' Madeiran breakfast as such.
I'm traveling to Funchal in three weeks, appreciate your food tour! I think I'll be trying all of your recommendations, but maybe not all in one day as you did (too many calories for me, lol). Planning on doing a lot of hiking also, to work off all of the good food, and thanks for sharing, good job!

Hey - thanks for the kind comments, it is great to read such positive words. It was actually my first test video and I used a GoPro Hero 9. I think it is ok to get a feel for vlogging like this, but you definitely need a more capable camera. I have got myself a Canon M50ii and just arrived back in Madeira, so will be making more videos soon.
At Bela 5 the Espada was everything you said it would be. We mentioned you while we were there and they rolled out the red carpet. Coffee and egg at Abrigo Do Poiso thumbs up! Pastries, chocolates and the park all good.

Joe quick question that you may not want to answer... I will delete the question later. Did you buy subscribers and views in March 2023 and around November 2022? (socialblade) analytics I know someone who did this and it was easily fixed.
Haha no! I’ve never paid for any subs or views! Everything has been organic. I had the five star chicken video blow up and give me a lot of views which I think damaged the balance of the channel.
the only thing I can see on there is the channel category is wrong... it is down as "people" when everyone else is down as "Travel" despite me categorising every video as travel
the only thing I can think of beyond - "YT hates me" (which isn't very constructive) is that that huge viral five star video messed things up in a big way, but also many other videos which properly took off. essentially with people only interested in that one video. So my core audience is actually very small. so when I post, it recommends it to people who just do not care anymore, stats drop and it doesn't push it out to find a new audience like it should
@@hungrytoexplore I am not so sure. I am convinced that local ingredients are of good quality but every time we tried anything in different places of the island it was average to low. Most of the times dissapointing because they use almost no vegetables and spices.
@@Succuub You are right that the local ingredients can be really good quality, especially the fruit, veg and the fish. I agree with you that I would love there to be more exotic spices. It is strange there is not more in the food culture given that Portugal had a big influence on the spice trade. But this culture is not about that, it is about simplicity, and when you have good quality ingredients, it is delicious. I am back on the island and will be making more videos of the places I really like, so maybe keep an eye out and we can compare.

Nice work for your first one! I am sure you have figured it out by now, but u should edit yourself, and be more concise! You could easily make it 10 minutes shorter.

Haha no! I’ve never paid for any subs or views! Everything has been organic. I had the five star chicken video blow up and give me a lot of views which I think damaged the balance of the channel.
the only thing I can see on there is the channel category is wrong... it is down as "people" when everyone else is down as "Travel" despite me categorising every video as travel
the only thing I can think of beyond - "YT hates me" (which isn't very constructive) is that that huge viral five star video messed things up in a big way, but also many other videos which properly took off. essentially with people only interested in that one video. So my core audience is actually very small. so when I post, it recommends it to people who just do not care anymore, stats drop and it doesn't push it out to find a new audience like it should

In general Madeira's food is terrible. It looks great but it is completely tasteless.
That is a bold statement, I think like anywhere, you need to go to the right restaurants. But there is certainly good food to be found here.
@@hungrytoexplore I am not so sure. I am convinced that local ingredients are of good quality but every time we tried anything in different places of the island it was average to low. Most of the times dissapointing because they use almost no vegetables and spices.
@@Succuub You are right that the local ingredients can be really good quality, especially the fruit, veg and the fish. I agree with you that I would love there to be more exotic spices. It is strange there is not more in the food culture given that Portugal had a big influence on the spice trade. But this culture is not about that, it is about simplicity, and when you have good quality ingredients, it is delicious. I am back on the island and will be making more videos of the places I really like, so maybe keep an eye out and we can compare.
