Spot on with this being the best, Duke's mayo, farm stand tomato, unless you grow your own, white loaf bread, and always southern style sweet tea! It does not get Amy better than this!!
A friend of mine grew up in Appalachia and loved tomato biscuits. His mother made biscuits from scratch and served them stuffed with a slice of tomato. Yum!
The best tomatoes come fresh from your garden. When I was a kid we used to have scrambled egg, cheese, garden fresh green onions, lettuce and tomato sandwich's after a long day of dairy farming.
My Italian Grandparents summer favorite !! All through the 60s & 70s.... Now, it's us showing our Grandkids . Enjoy your show ! Greetings from Detroit 🇺🇲🇮🇹🇺🇲
I'm 57yo. Growing up in NC we always had a garden and tomatoes were the star of the show. I didn't like raw tomatoes then, I think it was a texture thing, I couldn't stand them on anything. I overcame that texture issue about 10 years ago and now love a good tomato sandwich. I have apologized to my mom for this 😂😂.
Up North the beef steak tomato is best when paired with American cheese. My grandma grew beef steak tomatoes in her backyard. She put the tomatoes on white bread with American cheese then grilled it. Best sandwich in the world.
The best part was eating the sandwich crouched over the sink so we could wash our face and hands and then drink out of the faucet. Warm fuzzy memories at my grandmother's house in North Carolina
“Hunkered over” the kitchen sink….. RIGHT ON! been using that word for most of my 77 years!!!! Was raised and STILL EAT tomato, aka ‘mato’ and mayo sandwiches! Thank you for an ACCURATE and enjoyable video! just found your channel and love it!

take 2 slices of rye bread and butter each slice, cover one side w grated parmesan cheese, top w sliced tomatoes, salt and pepper and more cheese. cover w second slice of rye bread and smoosh the sandwich a little. slice in half and eat, so good.
i canot eat store tomatoes...i have to have from the garden ones..omg the blend of them with salt n pepper and plenty of hellmanns mayonnaise..i wait every yr for the garden ones...
Well, I guess you're too young, but my Grandma had nothing but heirloom tomatoes! Didn't go to a store to get a tomato back then. Another thing I "disagree" with you on, is the mayo. Then again, I'm from Jersey. Hellman's mayo was always my favorite. Even after tasting Duke's. Now days, for my tomato sandwiches, I splurge and buy some Kewpie Japanese mayo. I guess the nostalgia of tomato juice dripping down your arms is a powerful draw, but I've always gone with heavy mayo on one side. The juices that soak into the bread is a heavenly plus! One of the best videos on the humble tomato sandwich, though. Almost everyone else wants to toast crusty sourdough or add insane stuff to a perfect simple tomato sandwich. Thank you!
Oh boy, you sure got it right! I wait all year for July and August, for those fresh grown tomatoes. And they are well worth the wait. A real classic, and BTW we eat them the same way up here in PA too. Just had to come back and add that having that tomato sandwich on fresh baked home-made white bread is even better than any loaf of store bought white bread! I'm going to have to bake another loaf, this one is disappearing fast! 😋😋😅

Grandma did have the heirloom tomatoes that’s where it all began. If it wasn’t for grandma we wouldn’t have the heirloom today. A Canadian would have to have bacon on it. But your right just tomatoes S&P and mayo delish. I also like it toasted with ham tomato and S&P and mayo. But just the way you made it it’s divine.
Yes! But ONLY when tomatoes are in season. Better if they're warm from the garden. We always used cheap white bread but toasted. Plenty of pepper and salt. The juice will soften the toast anyway. 2 or 3 of those sandwiches is all you need for a meal. But if you were to sneak in a slice of crispy bacon, I'd let you get away with it.
We grew up eating the tomato sandwiches, bologna sandwiches, and many other southern types of food. We did this due to being poor, But, Those were the good ole days, Oh Yes! The first good Red tomato comes in the garden for Grandma and she gets her big tomato sandwich and after that it's a free-for-all grandma will usually share her tomato sandwich but that is kind of let's say right of Summer in my garden. Only after the first ripe tomatoes are you allowed to make fried green tomatoes and the other stuff BLTs but you have to wait on the first ripe one or the first ripe slicer there's usually some cherry tomatoes or something the ripen first so you get a taste it tomatoes but the tomato sandwich is the thing and you did it right although I use a different kind of dressing. I was raised on miracle whip and miracle whip goes on the first tomato sandwich after that I switch back and forth I actually like both I have never got to try dukes yet but I will and I'm sure I'll love it
