Btw i would love every single 75ml of this line, i think this line is pure gold. The best vanillas and ambers done french style that money can get. Ultra refined and classy.
@@RichMitch ...once upon a time...they werent...on Parfumo of course lol. Maybe 3-4 years ago, if i only knew. But Bois D'Armenie, cmon that is worth the price still.
@@RichMitchI prefer their older fragrances. SDV, Tonka Imperiale, Cuir Beluga, and Bois d'Armenie. I have vintage and current batches. I have 4 partial bottles of SDV, lol.
Neroli Outrenoir reminded me of LV Imagination a little bit, but its much more complex. Its maybe a little too white-floraly for my taste. Angelique Noire is my favorite probably.
I adore Bois d'Armenie and personally find it to be very unique as far as benzoin-themed perfumes go. Agree with you very much on SDV, though. A too-literal "vanilla extract" thing for me.
@RichMitch Yeah, Tihota was too much for me for exactly that reason. A vanilla overdose done about as well as it can be, but it made my teeth ache. I like my vanillas to be a little bit more on the funky/earthy side; more vanilla bean than processed vanilla. I get on very well with Les Indemodables Vanille Havane for that reason - it really gets those vanilla pod facets.
I have been a fan of Guerlain since I first smelled shalimar..however proces are outrageous now.SDV is overhyped .. it smells too much like over sweet desert. I wear any kind of fragrance at any weather but when it comes to these I prefer them in cooler months.. Bois d, cuir b, Angelique,Iris t, tonka I.. thank you for sharing your thoughts..
I've been testing the line recently and I have the same thoughts exactly. Nice, pleasant fragrances, that I wouldn't be surprised to smell next to another mainstream release at Sephora, way overpriced, not on par with any of their classic scents, not even close. On the other hand, I've also been trying out various perfumes by Nicolai and there are so many gems in that collection. They seem so interesting in comparison to L'art et la Matiere. Quality is great, pricing is reasonable, I highly recommend checking out their entire line.
@@missalayin I've tried a few and liked some but I find the vanilla/powdery aspects quite difficult as a matter of taste. Exceptional quality though, no doubt
Hmmm…it’s making me wonder if this line did usher in the overuse of what now seems to be called a “generic base” of vanilla, tonka, labdanum and patchouli which results in this really sweet base with either a metallic or cake-y texture (and are much worse in ither fragrances). I do still love my Angelique Noire but it’s the bitter, spicy Angelica that makes it a good one for me. Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts on a hyped collection. I’m a little more impressed by the Les Legendaires collection, tbh.
Thank you for this great review of the L'Art & La Matière scents! After watching your and Ramsey's impressions on Néroli Outrenoir, I'm definitely adding that one to my wishlist. You might enjoy trying VANILLE PLANIFOLIA from their extract line-it's said to focus more on the vanilla flower and has a darker profile. The pricing is the main downside. Cheers
Thought you might go for Bois D’Amenie. Is it revelatory? No. Do I love that subtle boozy resin accord? Yes I enjoy it a lot in the winter. It’s grown on me and become something I crave like a comfort food.
@@RichMitch I would be very interested in what other fragrance you like more for less money. That would be very helpful to the people who like the smell, but are also not liking the high prices!!

Weird that those three were the only ones not made by Guerlain in-house parfumeurs hahah I guess I'm not a fan of Guerlain at all :/
@Rich Mitch , I have exactly the same thought about l’A&M : overrated asf. Mostly when you take into consideration the masterpieces that were released previously by Jacques and Jean Paul Guerlain . I am part of a French Discord and only yesterday I was arguing that l’A&M was overhyped and it was not worth 325€ for 100ml. One of the guys replied that just the bottle was worth 100€. If it is the case, I don’t want to pay extra for that bottle that many Guerlain fans criticised actually ! I had rather spend those 325€ on a Guerlain vintage gem : I paid about that price for a 200ml of Metallica a few months ago!
@@RichMitch yeah they meant the new bottles. I agree with you they are boring and generic. Nothing to do with some older Guerlain design like the propeller bottle (Vol de Nuit) or the blue lantern bottle
Lovely to hear your thoughts. I just bought a bottle of Neroli Outrenoir but I bought a partial bottle for a steal! Totally worth it. Like you, I wasn't impressed by Spiriteuse Double Vanille because it was just boring and I don't love vanilla anyway. Bois d'Armenie though... i'll keep that one.

I own a new bottle of spiritueuse double vanille there's absolutely no cake smell & it's not that sweet. The older 75ml bottles were feminine & the newer bottles are far more unisex. I get a boozy woody vanilla. Like rum & raisen ice cream with rum poured on top. I think your sample is probably post reformulation. Newer batches are great for a man
