Would I be interested in a cheap, simple, practical car without huge wheels but with good safety? You bet. That is EXACTLY what I would like. The interior looks decently nice too (a bit more space for the rear passengers wouldn't hurt though). The only thing taming my enthuasiam it the exterior. Not really my cup of tea in that department.
The car has all the real features we all need. 15.5 kWh/100km = 4 miles/kWh. WLTP range of 267 miles means 214 real range (~ -20%), meaning 182 miles of real practical range (100%-15% SoC) which gives you 3 hours of driving at 70 mph. My Ioniq 28 has a 88kW motor, so 120bhp, never seen it use more than 40/50kW 😂. No one needs a 150kW motor. If they had put 16inch wheels and lowered the car, they would have also reduced costs and improved efficiency. Regardless, this is a seriously good EV on paper.

My car's got a sunroof but 99% of the time it's closed and I've got the slidy cover over it. BYD will be concerned as this is another 'unknown' name to many in UK, MG less so as they are a 'known' name in UK, in fact SAIC are intending renaming IM and other brands as MG in Europe.
Very nice! We need more affordable EVs. Personally I'm more interested in affordable tiny EVs. I want an L6e-BP. Tiny 2-seater, max 45 km/h, Would love if Fully Charged made a video about different available tiny cars, primarily L6e, but also L7e. Maybe some honorable mentions of tiny cars that are just to large and actually classed as M1.
Carefully avoided sayng the price! Still measuring the boot space in litres - come on, use a tape measure - length/width/height! Will a folded pram or wheelchair go in?
Easy, just go buy a Taycan Sports Turismo! Seriously though there are wagon EVs, just mostly in China. The ancient MG5 EV aside, you've also got the Zeekr 001 and the absolutely stunning NIO ET5 Touring. If even those are still too expensive, there will be the upcoming Wuling Starlight Wagon and Hozon Neta EP42 Wagon, both still looking very cool, and the Wuling is going to be dirt cheap too.
Anti-EV people are pointing to a new study that shows EVS produce more pollution than ICE cars. Turns out the study was about EVS producing more tire pollution because they're heavier, lol.
This is undoubtedly bullshit. Tyre pollution is caused by weight and driving style, and tyre composition etc. As EVs are mostly heavier they will cause slightly more. But they don't literally blow out smoke into people's faces and lungs as ice cars do. So probably better I would say. Oh no my EV makes .014 more tyre wear. Its just scaremongering.
In China, there are many cars with better prices and space than the Tesla Model Y. However, not one EV car from China in the UK is better than the Tesla Model Y. Come on, start fighting with Tesla not avoid and ignore it......Tesla has no competitor in the UK.....especially Model Y. UK people need the car like IM LS6, LS7, ZEEKER 001, NIO ES6, ET5T, XPENG G9,X9......Not a compact SUV...

Yeah 18 is way too big for almost all vehicles. Making your car slower, less efficient and less comfortable, more vulnerable to potholes in exchange for... looking more like a kids toy? Great. Sure, some cars legitimately need clearance for the brakes. That's the only up side apart from aesthetics.

Not meant as Sinophobia … I own an MG4 … but this looks like the kind of car the Chinese industry was putting out 10-15 years ago. There are styling cues that are direct lifts from existing cars. But the most egregious steal is the brand name, and the styling of the brand name … OMODA … ŠKODA … they’ve even copied the horizontal lines bisecting parts of the letterforms.
@@kamsunleong6648 you got me on a mission to think of two car brands as similar as Omoda and Skoda. And there are two other brands I can think of with five letter names ending in DA … Mazda and Honda. But none ending in ODA. And you have shamed yourself by suggesting my comment is a slight on Chinese manufacturing in general. All countries entering the global automotive market - going back to the 1890s - start with a “copycat” strategy, before they find their own feet. And the Chinese industry has, on the whole, ditched this strategy and made amazing and unique cars since. Which is why Omoda strikes me as a peculiar throwback.

NO,NO,NO they are just dumping crap, you will never get the parts in 5 years time. EVs are just IOT devices that will need to be replaced every few years which is not environmentally friendly. It’s wise to be cautious, and so called Legacy Auto (if it needs a name) are not resting on their laurels as far as I can see. They are however taking the long term strategic view IMO, and with all the hype that is going on currently are better served by a slower ramp up.
Naturally legacy auto are better served by as slow as possible ramp up as they have billions invested in ice manufacturing equipment which would be a huge loss if they could not sell any more ice from their billions dollar investment which are not transferable to ev production.
@@ensteffo Many assumptions by us all. A few who are close to manufacturers would possibly know best. The rest is speculation, including my own thoughts on this. I think they are taking a little bit of time to have a really good look at the race to EV Nirvana, and without being cynical or with any hint of irony. Governments are concerned and consumers are befuddled. Concerns are valid. IMO apart from range, charging, stewardship of resources and stranded investments the current flavour of concerns is oversensitive ADAS. How did we get to the point so soon in the history of EVs? Also, few report on the missed opportunities of EVs to kickstart mobility options, and we are now seeing some so called legacy auto makers starting to dip a toe in the water regarding this. So far, other than concepts, that really has not happened yet IMO. The real disruption that new energy vehicles can bring to market are yet to begin.
Brilliant indicator sound. That is a big plus point, just a shame it is ruined by the irritating bong when something passes you. If that and seemingly required by NCAP positively dangerous lane assist "features" are not capable of being turned off as a default then it is not for me
Isn't default-on an NCAP requirement?
Single button-press for off should be a priority though...
@@dogsbodyish8403 Pretty sure you are correct but that should only be the case when the car leaves the factory thereafter it should be the drivers choice - not every time he/she drives but there should be a setting that allows you turn them off permanently. The problem with current "driver assist" is that in many cases they are in fact dangerous
The indicator and the other bong sound can be lowered all the way down (even mute) by the touch buttons on the screen all the way to the left
Another nail in the coffin of legacy ICE brands!
They make super popular ice as well. They are China's #1 exporter.
Why knock legacy manufacturers? How much subsidy do these get?
Did I miss the price ???? Lots of info on how competitive it is but no price 🤨
I was about to post the same question. A quick Google suggests a starting price of £24k (according to Auto Express).
Me too
The amount of BS videos about new EV's is staggering!
@@ketkroketdumont8238 get the same on the old fossil crap too.
@@InBodWeTrust that's the price for petrol model. I'm going to guess circa 30k for electric one
There's a lot to like about this car, the first I have seen that I'd consider over the Atto 3. Having the BYD battery as well is another huge plus. Hope this makes it to New Zealand, and at a reasonable price
My car's got a sunroof but 99% of the time it's closed and I've got the slidy cover over it. When it's sunny someone's always got the sun in their eyes, and when it's open there's too much wind noise, and annoying buffeting unless I crack a window. I'd rather have my next car without, but then you tend to miss out on all the other good stuff.
Paintjob is like your sneakers!
Yup this Omoda will put pressure to BYD in international market. Chery is one of China main auto exporter.
waiting for this one, arriving here soon! ❤
I much prefer to see you covering this sort of thing than giant pickups
No point. UK insurers are not going to cover it due to lack of parts and mechanic experience to fix when it goes wrong.
Never heard of the Chery brand until today Omoda E5.4 5 star 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 safety rating, V2L. Economical, practical, functional. Form, fit, drive experience, cabin noise, reliability issues, simulated engine tone? Price range?
Chery is the biggest share holder of Mercedes.
someone on their design team really liked the new kona…
Or Peugeot e-2008 😂
Agreed - definitely new Kona vibes at the front...
And, maybe Toyota CHR vibes at the rear...? 🤔
Oh, I think I saw one of these on my local roads. I didn't realise it was electric!
BYD will be concerned as this is another 'unknown' name to many in UK, MG less so as they are a 'known' name in UK, in fact SAIC are intending renaming IM and other brands as MG in Europe.
Indeed, the mg9 And 9S at the Geneva show are SAIC rising autos rebadged. Lovely tho. The badge makes a world of difference, it is crazy.
At least they sell a big battery with every one sold. That's half the car.
Very nice! We need more affordable EVs.
Personally I'm more interested in affordable tiny EVs.
I want an L6e-BP.
Tiny 2-seater, max 45 km/h,
Would love if Fully Charged made a video about different available tiny cars, primarily L6e, but also L7e.
Maybe some honorable mentions of tiny cars that are just to large and actually classed as M1.
Carefully avoided sayng the price! Still measuring the boot space in litres - come on, use a tape measure - length/width/height! Will a folded pram or wheelchair go in?
Someone needs to bring back the station wagon as an EV, Commodore/Falcon style
EVs are not necessarily heavier than ice cars. My Tesla M3 LR is 300kg lighter than a Range Rover!
In China, there are many cars with better prices and space than the Tesla Model Y. However, not one EV car from China in the UK is better than the Tesla Model Y. Interesting.....and weird.....I believe that the people in the UK need the alternative car of Model Y.
You mentioned rice cookers, but forgot to mention that if we stopped eating rice and switched the say potatoes we could reduce co2 output by about a gazillion tones per annum 🤔
Interesting. I wasn't aware but am now
What is it about growing rice that emits CO2? General rule of thumb is that growing plants absorb CO2, so something in the way it's processed (drying perhaps)?
rubbish
@@TerryHickey-xt4mfYes. Rubbish gives out lots of CO2 and methane as well.
I'd rather eat potatoes, and put the rubbish into my Mr. Fusion.
Potatoes give me gas. Tbh I don't eat rice much either.
Should make the Omoda M 😂
18" rim small? No it's just not as ridiculously huge as many other modern cars.
isn't it interesting, that most of the world is metric, but most of the world still have 18" wheels!
Super OMODA!!! Super NANA!!!!
I was thinking the same about the Leaf when I saw the interior
You see little bits of many other car makers in the styling yet I only see one: Nissan. The side and back SCREAMS Qashqai and Ariya. The interior is also a knock off of the Ariya.
It seems a good value car, and a blade battery is always a plus, but I can't get over how hard it's trying to be a Nissan. I don't get why you'd buy this instead of the soon-to-be Qashqai EV.
Thanks
Chery used to be one of the most ambitious automaker in China, among the early Chinese automaker who exported its products abroad. But then it fizzled out due to lack of service centers and marketing. But now Chery new attempt with Omoda series seem begin to pay out.
Yes! Looks like they merged a few other brands designs to come up with that look!
I've just been to my local nissan dealer for an update and was told from the end May they are going over to Omada with just one model for now as ev and an i.c.e. getting a 2 nd larger model later . Looking forward to find out the price.
Charger access at the front, where most crashes occur. It could be a very expensive repair for a minor front bump!
Headlight position bothers me more. I imagine replacement headlights might take a while coming from China
Charging port in the bonnet - fail. Low height screen - good. Physical buttons - good. Big blocky bit between the front seats - fail for people with chunky legs.
But where do you go to get maintenance & repair?
The inside looks easy on the eye but I’m struggling with the exterior styling.
The exterior styling is why this is selling well here in Malaysia. Very new but already seeing many on the road. To each his own. I suppose.
I'm very interested to know what kind of collaboration they had with JLR. Because the car looks so much similar to suv 'Harrier' made by TATA motors in India - company that owns major share in Jaguar Land Rover. And Tata also confirmed that an electric version of Harrier is in the work. 🤔
So what is the price?
Pls review the Toyota Bz3!!!!!
Spotted one in Nottinghamshire this week. Had never heard of it before. I must keep up with your videos better.
Well spotted
Skoda and Omoda are miles apart in similarity. Nit picking. If it's not Chinese, you wouldn't have any issue with the name.
@@kamsunleong6648 you got me on a mission to think of two car brands as similar as Omoda and Skoda. And there are two other brands I can think of with five letter names ending in DA … Mazda and Honda. But none ending in ODA.
And when you take the cutouts in the letter forms into account, it’s hard NOT to draw comparisons.
I think this is much closer than the Polestar/Citroën similarity.
"Omoda, even room for your bobble" 😂
Agree with other comments. You can't do a review and mention at this price point...without mentioning the price!
Never understand the fascination with seat heaters. If it is cold out, I'm wearing cloths.. What I do care about is ventilated seats when it is hot as the AC can't help your core temp come down.
It's really nice to go out in a winter morning, know it's -1 degree C. and still feel confident to hang the jacket behind the driver seat before driving off just wearing one layer of clothes (or two).
Totally understand if you prefer AC, but "why not both?".
🤣
I thought the same until I got them. Heat directly on you is very efficient and also uses less energy from the EV battery compared to AC/heat pump.
@@Nikoo033 I've tried them and if I want to feel like I peed myself, I'll pee myself. I just don't really get cold in the areas that seat heaters help with.
@@NunoLima1337 Nah, it does nothing for my hands/arms and feet that are cold. Don't ever recall my butt feeling cold. Must have too good of padding.
Headlights look very vulnerable. But I like the interior's simplicity. But not the bongs.
Great episode
Chery O'Moda, new import from Ireland.
Well said thank you
Proper door handles. Yes.
They will make their money by replacing all the front light clusters damaged by parking dings.
Does the sunroof close? If so it gets my vote over Model 3 and Seal. Cars get hot enough in summer. Hoping into the work model 3 at the moment takes planning
Yes it has a shade and applying a UV tint to it could even make more wonders I reckon
It looks like a next gen updated Kona.
Links with JLR a recommendation? Really?
Someone fetch him a Bobble-Off fleff trimmer for the hat. It's all I'm looking at throughout the video.
Get well soon Elliot!
Thank goodness the ‘legacy car makers’ don’t build cars styled like that.
NO,NO,NO they are just dumping crap, you will never get the parts in 5 years time. EVs are just IOT devices that will need to be replaced every few years which is not environmentally friendly. Try replaceing your dashboard in 5 years time when the screen starts to flicker or dies. I want a car that does not have a screen unless it uses an iPad via a Bluetooth ODB port.
Keep cars basic with no bells and whistles. I think this channel is now a sales channel for Chinese car brands.
I'm kinda thinking you should exclude Kia & Hyundai from the "why can't legacy auto build something like this?" statement. They've been doing it for years.
There's are still more expensive. Legacy manufacturers could build something like this, they just won't because they think they'll make more money building higher end machines.
Looking for a granny car. Where is the small cars
Changlin Lumin,I like.
To the young and upcoming this car is missing many features. To the married and family people and us oldies ( I'm 78) it has every thing we want at a price we can afford. Also less gimmicks to breakdown and cost a fortune to repair. 0 to 60 ( 100 Km) in 4 secs is for people who want to break the law at traffic lights buy crashing cars into each other. Green light jumpers and those who fail to stop after 1 second of the light turning RED.
Very tasteful interior, but the exterior is a bit too Lexus 'look how many angled bits we can put on a car'
The most affordable is citroen c4 1.6hdi. No debt!
What people want is affordable evs. Like the Chery Eq-1. A small city hatchback.
"there's one feature that is very, very important - rear seat heaters" For fuck's sake!
If you got kids that's worth while

Until they catch hemorrhoids.
Heat is a well recognised cause of catching hemorrhoids, as everyone knows.
They can grow to the size of watermelons. In fact it is difficult to tell if they're sitting on a cushion or standing up.
Sometimes it's difficult to tell if they're actually chimps, or not.
All because of battery EVs. You won't hear Quentin admitting the above.
Calm down, your over heating....
@@damiendye6623 is it? I have kids, but they're in car seats. By the time they're not in car seats they'll be in the front unless it's whole family in the car, in which case we're driving far enough that the cabin will be warm enough anyway.
Ha ha ... yes, I only use the front seat heaters in mine about 3 times a year let alone rear seat heaters... because it's an EV so you warm the car before you get into it. Maybe he means they're essential in northern China or North America.
Headlights are in the wrong place
I don’t think it’s where we are right now, so the caution by established makers is warranted. Slowly, slowly and time to evolve.
What a car 🙂
Get well Elliot. Is the AC/AA wired or wireless? The software has a look & feel like BYD software just from the brief look that I saw anyway. It was hard to tell it's size is it about Atto 3 size?
Not a fan of the front looks. It is nice to have some more choice in the UK's cheaper segments from Chinese brands.
Great car and Good summary at the end.
Bobble hats should be compulsory for car reviewers ... 😁
