Chery is fast becoming very popular in South Africa as you get great bang for your buck. The Omoda E5 has been spotted in SA so hopefully it will be on sale soon.

Because it's just a promotional decoration, so it's safe to ignore completely.
It is mix of Lucid, Kia, Zeekr, in a striking new style: futuristic ugly. 😂

I didn't know that. Thank you so much!
SI units seem to be a mystery to most electric car journalists.
@@origin178
"Electrics" full stop are a mystery to motoring journalists.
I put it down to their attending a "Comprehensive School".
I can recall an episode on storage radiators ...
Oh well.
I'll forgive them using a lower case W if they remember to include the all important hours when talking about battery capacity, leave it out when talking about motor power, and don't claim it has full power at 0 rpm.
Why no mention of the price, at all?
The expected starting price is around £29,000
not cheap then
@@geoffhobster5814that is very cheap when put against an ID.3, almost £10k cheaper. The petrol Omoda 5 will be £24k starting. Knocks socks off any car in its segment.
@@geoffhobster5814 It is cheap for a new car... a base model Ford Puma (the cheapest car Ford makes) is £26k, and with some decent spec over £30k.
@@geoffhobster5814 But you're SAVING the planet with an imported big battery vehicle! China is socialist so extra points for you to support them and not your own country and region. Price?
The expected starting price is around £29,000
arround MG4 or Atto 3
In Indonesia they sell it around £24k
For that much I'd rather buy a lightly used Tesla
Still too expensive for a lot of ppl. We need to get down to ~15000£
Speaking of technology. My sister has a new hybrid car. Almost a year now. No idea nor interest in how the cruise control works, nor what the B is for on the gear selector. Nor what the modes do or how to change them.
And I suspect most people are like her. Way too many options that just confuse and get in the way of just getting in the car and going on the school run or going to th shops. So for a lot of people who just need a straight forward car for straight forward needs, it's going to appeal just fine.
Friend bought a car 2 years ago, just now wondered what half the buttons on the steering do, and that it has cruise control as well.
The B is for the regen braking. When she rolls down a hill in B it charges the battery, therefore using even less fuel so win win!
Wait till the battery will have to be replaced like with most hybrids, the costs are horrible.
@@ketkroketdumont8238 absolutely, but she gets cars under the motability scheme so it gets changed every 2 years. The hammered battery is going to be someone else's problem.
Why did she get a car with stuff she didn't need or want ? Just wastes money and since it's a mobility car the tax payers money too
Thank goodness, an EV maker who keeps some real buttons.
And proper door handles. Not the Tesla etc flush stuff.
Chasing after that euro ncap rating for physical buttons
@@Fabulousprofound168Let's hope so.
My VWID.3 also has a reminder saying “Low Washer Fluid Level “ but it’s always full.
I appreciate fully charged show demonstrating these vehicles, ultimately we all want to help towards the energy transition without breaking the bank.
No matter where these vehicles are made, as the Mozilla foundations report last year demonstrated, there are some very serious privacy concerns with many EVs surrounding the collection and use of personal information.
I understand in addressing this/discussing it on the show that there's the potential to scare/worry others about getting an EV which is against the transition goals. But, if we don't talk about it, regulatory change will only take longer and forwarned is forearmed for those looking to purchase an EV.
Thank you
Yes a panel discussing these issues needed. Several YTers have complained about eyes off road chasing through menues on touch screens to do the simplest adjustment.
If you like to worry, consider this. You phone is made in China, your IPad, and you typed your fears on a laptop from China. The PRC already has EVery one of your secrets.
In the uk there is absolutely no financial incentive from the uk government to buy an EV,there was, unfortunately it was scrapped.
Omoda E5 sounds like a remedy for constipation.
😂😆
I get American politicians wanting to protect our interest. But these Chinese auto makers are crushing the competition. Subsequently we Americans are paying the price with a much more limited selection of EVs to choose from.
Limited selection? Big problem in presidents...
yeah theres like 30 brands to choose from here in china, just EVs
Yeah the free market is great isn't it? There must be no barriers, we mustn't have govt intervention...
Wait someone is making better stuff than us, cheaper? Quick! Trade tarrifs! Protectionism!

So when Cherry returned to Australia I was excited to see some EVs they only came with ICEV and hybrids so this is coming this year is what I wanted to see. So it is interesting to see how it takes on the juggernaut that is the Atto3. HUD is a great feature on a cheaper EV like this wow there is lots of great standard features. The big issue with Cherry is that its driving character is a bit meh but most people don't care.
So HOW DOES IT DRIVE?
Like an EV
If anything like the ICE version luke warm. Mostly for the design not the drive.
Nice looks, but Chery has a poor reputation here in Aus, so the price will have to be well under the Atto3 (whatever it will be?). And I already have the BYD.
In Malaysia they price it much cheaper than atto3 yet has so much features compared to the Atto. Best one is 3 phase AC charging over the BYDs single phase
@@PsychedMedia 3 phase is great, but I can't get it at my place. I might test drive it if it gets here, anyway.
How Much...!!!!

This is probably the quickest I’ve ever seen one of your videos Elliot I think this one is coming to the uk ?
Yep this one will land in the UK. Predominantly Chinese brands will only bring the EV offerings to the UK/Europe especially as they'll phase out pure ice cars around 2025 plus factoring better profit margins.
@@Kennon959 Lucky for UK they made -right- wrong wheel version for Malaysia and Thailand.
Get well Elliot. Is the AC/AA wired or wireless? The software has a look & feel like BYD software just from the brief look that I saw anyway. It was hard to tell it's size is it about Atto 3 size?
Pls review any of the following cars should the opportunity arise:
Xiaomi SU7 max, JAC QX, Toyota BZ3, Nissan Sylphy e-power, Geely Geometry c, Deepal S7 PHEV and the Neta U. Appreciated!
waiting for this one, arriving here soon! ❤
GJ team! 2 questions remained tho
Does it have proper under car coverings or are the batteries just stuck under the car with no separation like in most PHEVs?
And I hear the breaks ain't so good. R the they just tricky or dangerously bad?
Hope u can revisit this car soon and dive deeper into quirks and features of it. Tysm!
Well said thank you
Paintjob is like your sneakers!
But where do you go to get maintenance & repair?
I was thinking the same about the Leaf when I saw the interior
Chery finally getting serious into EVs. Chery got popular almost 15 years ago with the cheapest ICE car back then. The size of this crossover is pretty niche though, kinda like the Nissan Juke, Toyota Raize, Suzuki Spresso
The size puts it slap bang in the middle of Europe's two most popular segments
Thanks
Oh, I think I saw one of these on my local roads. I didn't realise it was electric!
It using the BYD new battery?
So what is the price?
It has got very good reviews in quite a number of countries and is very affordable and loaded with features compared to it's competitors.
Should make the Omoda M 😂
Here in the UK, insurers are getting a bit jittery about these cheaper Chinese brands and some cars including BYD are getting harder to insure or impossible to insure.
That's strange, since BYD has excellent safety ratings and with its blade battery the safest in the industry.
@@gantenbeinable It's more to do with availability of parts following a crash.
These guys are also one of the new partners in nio's battery swap system. Not this model tho.
Still, the fact that now Nio has made agreements with multiple mass market brands for battery swapping including Geely, Changan, JAC, and Chery, means maybe battery swapping will go mainstream in China. Especially if they can coax SAIC into their consortium as well, which would represent most of the big players in the Chinese EV space not named BYD or Tesla.

Did I miss the price ???? Lots of info on how competitive it is but no price 🤨
I was about to post the same question. A quick Google suggests a starting price of £24k (according to Auto Express).

These guys sell a lot of cars, 1.9 million last year all over the world. "Chinese carmaker Chery became the top car exporter last year selling more than 900,000 cars overseas in total, Cui said. That would be more than either Tesla or BYD sent overseas last year.Jan 9, 2024"
Yes! Looks like they merged a few other brands designs to come up with that look!
I've just been to my local nissan dealer for an update and was told from the end May they are going over to Omada with just one model for now as ev and an i.c.e. getting a 2 nd larger model later . Looking forward to find out the price.
So we need to guess the price? Great review.........🤣
Would I be interested in a cheap, simple, practical car without huge wheels but with good safety? You bet. That is EXACTLY what I would like. The interior looks decently nice too (a bit more space for the rear passengers wouldn't hurt though). The only thing taming my enthuasiam it the exterior. Not really my cup of tea in that department.
The only thing i miss in modern EV, especially after this year with the new EU regulations: A button which i have to press for one time or say 4 seconds for the safety to turn off this annoying beeps and assistants which want to kill me without using a display and hunting all this settings every time i start the car. :/
it's gonna have to change and get back to some normality.
@@TerryHickey-xt4mf Yeah. All are hating and flaming the different engines. ICE vs BEV; BEV vs ICE. All this nonsense. This annoying crap is in all cars with every engine and no one wants to end this paternalism. :(
It's a regulation for all engine types, so all new cars are affected I'm afraid.
Pls review the Toyota Bz3!!!!!
I'm very interested to know what kind of collaboration they had with JLR. Because the car looks so much similar to suv 'Harrier' made by TATA motors in India - company that owns major share in Jaguar Land Rover. And Tata also confirmed that an electric version of Harrier is in the work. 🤔
Crazy that this car launched first last month in Indonesia in RHD, earlier than its homeland China. That's really showing that Chinese cars are really set to expand and conquer the world.
Chery is unique in the Chinese automotive industry in that they got into exporting cars years ago instead of focusing on the Chinese home market (or perhaps partially because Cherys are just not that competitive against their domestic competition at home) and currently is exporting a million cars a year. I think Chery might actually sell more cars abroad than they do inside China. So perhaps it is not surprising they are focused on launching their new cars internationally.
Where do I buy any of these new model EV's in the UK ???
How about a video on W.A.V vehicles
Does the sunroof close? If so it gets my vote over Model 3 and Seal. Cars get hot enough in summer. Hoping into the work model 3 at the moment takes planning
Yes it has a shade and applying a UV tint to it could even make more wonders I reckon
"Omoda, even room for your bobble" 😂
Chery used to be one of the most ambitious automaker in China, among the early Chinese automaker who exported its products abroad. But then it fizzled out due to lack of service centers and marketing. But now Chery new attempt with Omoda series seem begin to pay out.
My car's got a sunroof but 99% of the time it's closed and I've got the slidy cover over it. When it's sunny someone's always got the sun in their eyes, and when it's open there's too much wind noise, and annoying buffeting unless I crack a window. I'd rather have my next car without, but then you tend to miss out on all the other good stuff.
Thought that it would me about Xiaomi Ev .
I just want a baojun cloud premium but with tiny middle screen.
One of the most dangerous manoeuvres you can do in a car is reverse out of a car parking space. For this reason, I strongly prefer charge ports on the back of the car so I can reverse into the space. I'd always prefer to reverse in, than reverse out.
Yup this Omoda will put pressure to BYD in international market. Chery is one of China main auto exporter.
Excellent new news show - very impressed car. Thanks for outstanding journalism
Brilliant indicator sound. That is a big plus point, just a shame it is ruined by the irritating bong when something passes you. If that and seemingly required by NCAP positively dangerous lane assist "features" are not capable of being turned off as a default then it is not for me
Isn't default-on an NCAP requirement?
Single button-press for off should be a priority though...
@@dogsbodyish8403 Pretty sure you are correct but that should only be the case when the car leaves the factory thereafter it should be the drivers choice - not every time he/she drives but there should be a setting that allows you turn them off permanently. The problem with current "driver assist" is that in many cases they are in fact dangerous
The indicator and the other bong sound can be lowered all the way down (even mute) by the touch buttons on the screen all the way to the left
Super OMODA!!! Super NANA!!!!
How this car compared to an Atto 3?
Carefully avoided sayng the price! Still measuring the boot space in litres - come on, use a tape measure - length/width/height! Will a folded pram or wheelchair go in?
It looks like a next gen updated Kona.
Someone needs to bring back the station wagon as an EV, Commodore/Falcon style
Easy, just go buy a Taycan Sports Turismo!
Seriously though there are wagon EVs, just mostly in China. The ancient MG5 EV aside, you've also got the Zeekr 001 and the absolutely stunning NIO ET5 Touring. If even those are still too expensive, there will be the upcoming Wuling Starlight Wagon and Hozon Neta EP42 Wagon, both still looking very cool, and the Wuling is going to be dirt cheap too.
V2L is great, does anyone know if this is future proofed for V2H or V2G?
Is any EV? The only one I'm aware of offering anything like V2H or G is the Cybertruck. Reckon it will be next year before we see many others.
@@nongbloke There's quite a few out there with Kia, Hyundai, Volvo, VW, Nissan etc. Supporting it across their Evs. But the real hold up is the Aussie power suppliers, I've heard standards will be up and running in the next couple of years.
Very nice! We need more affordable EVs.
Personally I'm more interested in affordable tiny EVs.
I want an L6e-BP.
Tiny 2-seater, max 45 km/h,
Would love if Fully Charged made a video about different available tiny cars, primarily L6e, but also L7e.
Maybe some honorable mentions of tiny cars that are just to large and actually classed as M1.
Someone fetch him a Bobble-Off fleff trimmer for the hat. It's all I'm looking at throughout the video.
Agree with other comments. You can't do a review and mention at this price point...without mentioning the price!
18" rim small? No it's just not as ridiculously huge as many other modern cars.
isn't it interesting, that most of the world is metric, but most of the world still have 18" wheels!
Yeah 18 is way too big for almost all vehicles. Making your car slower, less efficient and less comfortable, more vulnerable to potholes in exchange for... looking more like a kids toy? Great. Sure, some cars legitimately need clearance for the brakes. That's the only up side apart from aesthetics.
They will make their money by replacing all the front light clusters damaged by parking dings.
What a car 🙂
Proper door handles. Yes.
someone on their design team really liked the new kona…
Or Peugeot e-2008 😂
Agreed - definitely new Kona vibes at the front...
And, maybe Toyota CHR vibes at the rear...? 🤔
Charger access at the front, where most crashes occur. It could be a very expensive repair for a minor front bump!
Headlight position bothers me more. I imagine replacement headlights might take a while coming from China
The inside looks easy on the eye but I’m struggling with the exterior styling.
The exterior styling is why this is selling well here in Malaysia. Very new but already seeing many on the road. To each his own. I suppose.
BYD will be concerned as this is another 'unknown' name to many in UK, MG less so as they are a 'known' name in UK, in fact SAIC are intending renaming IM and other brands as MG in Europe.
Indeed, the mg9 And 9S at the Geneva show are SAIC rising autos rebadged. Lovely tho. The badge makes a world of difference, it is crazy.
At least they sell a big battery with every one sold. That's half the car.
Another nail in the coffin of legacy ICE brands!
They make super popular ice as well. They are China's #1 exporter.
Why knock legacy manufacturers? How much subsidy do these get?
While white interior looks great, must be impossible to keep clean I would imagine.
Looking for a granny car. Where is the small cars
Changlin Lumin,I like.
Price about 29 k.
Headlights look very vulnerable. But I like the interior's simplicity. But not the bongs.
You mentioned rice cookers, but forgot to mention that if we stopped eating rice and switched the say potatoes we could reduce co2 output by about a gazillion tones per annum 🤔
Interesting. I wasn't aware but am now
What is it about growing rice that emits CO2? General rule of thumb is that growing plants absorb CO2, so something in the way it's processed (drying perhaps)?
rubbish
@@TerryHickey-xt4mfYes. Rubbish gives out lots of CO2 and methane as well.

You see little bits of many other car makers in the styling yet I only see one: Nissan. The side and back SCREAMS Qashqai and Ariya. The interior is also a knock off of the Ariya.
It seems a good value car, and a blade battery is always a plus, but I can't get over how hard it's trying to be a Nissan. I don't get why you'd buy this instead of the soon-to-be Qashqai EV.
BYD and MG dominance ? Never heard of that Tesla company then ?
Not a fan of the front looks. It is nice to have some more choice in the UK's cheaper segments from Chinese brands.
Thanks for an interesting video
It’s wise to be cautious, and so called Legacy Auto (if it needs a name) are not resting on their laurels as far as I can see. They are however taking the long term strategic view IMO, and with all the hype that is going on currently are better served by a slower ramp up.
Naturally legacy auto are better served by as slow as possible ramp up as they have billions invested in ice manufacturing equipment which would be a huge loss if they could not sell any more ice from their billions dollar investment which are not transferable to ev production.
@@ensteffo Many assumptions by us all. A few who are close to manufacturers would possibly know best. The rest is speculation, including my own thoughts on this. I think they are taking a little bit of time to have a really good look at the race to EV Nirvana, and without being cynical or with any hint of irony. Governments are concerned and consumers are befuddled. Concerns are valid.
IMO apart from range, charging, stewardship of resources and stranded investments the current flavour of concerns is oversensitive ADAS. How did we get to the point so soon in the history of EVs? Also, few report on the missed opportunities of EVs to kickstart mobility options, and we are now seeing some so called legacy auto makers starting to dip a toe in the water regarding this. So far, other than concepts, that really has not happened yet IMO. The real disruption that new energy vehicles can bring to market are yet to begin. I don’t think it’s where we are right now, so the caution by established makers is warranted. Slowly, slowly and time to evolve.
Anti-EV people are pointing to a new study that shows EVS produce more pollution than ICE cars. Turns out the study was about EVS producing more tire pollution because they're heavier, lol.
This is undoubtedly bullshit. Tyre pollution is caused by weight and driving style, and tyre composition etc. As EVs are mostly heavier they will cause slightly more. But they don't literally blow out smoke into people's faces and lungs as ice cars do. So probably better I would say. Oh no my EV makes .014 more tyre wear. Its just scaremongering.
Charging port in the bonnet - fail. Low height screen - good. Physical buttons - good. Big blocky bit between the front seats - fail for people with chunky legs.
Why is Elliot so dashing?
Very tasteful interior, but the exterior is a bit too Lexus 'look how many angled bits we can put on a car'
If a car sets your pants on fire, you might want to get the seat heater checked.
