Narrator: "Karpov would, in fact, not be in that room that August..."
I remember seeing this game shortly after I received my advanced degree in hyperbolic topology.
For a topologist, hyperbolic space is as flat as the joke... (I mean his, not yours)
@@adrianf.5847 True, but special relativity works in hyperbolic spacetime (ds^2 = dt^2 - dr^2); although still flat, it is interesting. But I doubt Prof. Frink had that in mind. He was busy debugging his monsterometer (aka frog exaggerator).
@@kdub1242 So you do think a topologist cares about the metric. (Maybe we should leave the poor guy alone, after all he's explaining chess to us for free. But what did mathematicians ever do to HIM???)
@@adrianf.5847 I know. Topologists are unimpressed by measure. But give us physicists a break. We need to know that our coffee mug is not a doughnut so we don't try to eat it (and then drink the doughnut). At least we can agree with Ben that a diagonal King march from h1 to a8 is the same length (in moves) as from a1 to a8. No sqrt(2) measure nonsense!
@@kdub1242 Sorry dude. I think the sleep deprivation is getting to me. Talk to me again in a few months when this horrid situation has finally dissolved.
7:58 - Incredible answer
That sigh from Ben at min 8:30 I felt that as much as he did!
Came for minor piece endgames, expecting to see games where all 16 pawns had been replaced by knights and bishops before move one. Somehow, was not disappointed.
illuminating lecture, i appreciate how hard the variable noise gate is working in the editing software
7:59 Bobby Fischer & Magnus Carlsen
I’m great at endgames, except for one thing. Truth hurts
17:13 I would’ve lost that game 100 times over lol.
