Yeah even in the base game you can create little science bases, either as space stations or ground bases, though their use is limited without mods, basically they're just for science or in the case of ground bases, mining for fuel. Mods make the whole process a bit more streamlined, honestly I can't play KSP without at least a couple of mods these days.
You're correct, Martin is Australian, and a national treasure (to me).
When it comes to controlling the ships, it's kind of half Martin, half the Kerbal he has piloting. At the start you need to control the ship yourself 95% of the time, as pilots increase in skill, they gain the ability to point the ship in directions you choose, unlocking more directions as the pilot levels. It's a small detail in the game, but a fun one.
When it comes to remaote science points, you can transmit science back to home base if you have a transmitter, but it comes at a cost, you lose some of the science, you lose more the further away from Kerbin you are. The Science Lab is still more than worth it, since it multiplies science by 5, so a loss of 15% isn't a big deal comparatively.

Yeah it definitely seems like mods improve the quality of life a lot for ksp.
Yeah i figured he was Australian! his accent sounded like daniel ricciardo’s to me at some moments 😅
And that’s really interesting! I appreciate that there’s layers to every system in this game, even down to remote science points lol

@@FrameOneAlex Hell yeah man, I've personally lost a few days of my life to this game, I'll boot it up planning to play for an hour then check the clock to discover it's been like 5 hours

I can totally believe that! This would definitely be a game that i could see myself sinking a lot of hours into

Oh cool, if you're looking for suggestions, there's a channel called Explosions&Fire which is an aussie chemistry student doing chemical experiments (mostly around making tiny amounts of explosives) out of his grandma's shed. Dude has a great sense of humour and it's fun learning about different kinds of explosives, I'd recommend "Recreating Old Alchemy Explosives", where he goes through the history of the very first explosives discovered, and makes them himself.

Depending on the type of science experiment you can either transmit all the data back home for full science value or partially. Some experiments have to be delivered home or to a lab for full science. An example would be the goo and temperature experiment, you radio back temp reading but you can't with physical goo.

Scientist gain more science, engeneer can repair staff, pilot is just pilot. so he could gain MORE science per launch(by the way science we need to research things, sry for bad eng.)
