Glad I listened to this. Been single for nearly two years. Had four relationships. Had a big life event that I’ve been dealing with for over a year. My friends say I’m happier than I was a year ago. And I’m glad. I’ve also just recently started showing up to the world through dance classes. Wish me luck yall

Great episode! Something I learned that helped me a lot in therapy was identifying my limiting beliefs because they impact us in various aspects of our lives. Reprocessing those limiting beliefs has helped me tremendously.
Yeah it only took me 6 yrs to repair a years worth of damage.

@@r.c.7779 Forums, social media, discord, etc. I mean sites where you can connect with people or form groups for shared hobbies or like-minded people without the pressure of a dating app.
I met a few of my friends through Tumblr years ago and another through Joe's facebook group lol. I wasn't using it to find friends, it just happened lol. But some social media site and discords have groups/forums/channels/etc that are specific to dating.

I had someone ask me that question and I didn’t know how to respond. Thinking of being single this day and age seems horrifying. I see too many people close to me who have horrible dates and people who they met. A lot of my girl acquaintances are single and wondering if they will ever get married because the dating scene is tough.

I've been single for 5 years after a really shitty abusive relationship. So I've been taking my sweet time. Trying to make sure I don't fuck myself up worse out of feelings of loneliness. I know for a fact that i want someone to share my life with and it has NOTHING to do with societal pressures. I know i want to find someone soon and no amount of "aGe iS jusT a nUmbEr" will convince me. I don't care how many people over 40 - 50 are happy finding love for the first time. Good for them, it's not for me. I've done enough work and thought of it for too long enough to know what i want and what life will depress me.
Humans are social creatures and it's weird seeing people in committed reationships being like, "you dont NEED a partner" as they benefit from a partnership.... People still need some sort of company, its why isolation is a huge punishment in prison... What's the point of friends if you're "whole enough and don't need anyone" lol. Friends are nice to have, its part of the human experience.
Sure we technically don't need others to feel whole but there are also studies that say being single or alone for too long causes loneliness, lower self esteem, lower hope, etc so.... Human interaction is a little more important than people give credit. Some people act like you should be able to handle living the rest of your life lonely and alone or it means you're too desperate.
Its also annoying when people think friends or family is a 1:1 replacement. Sorry but I don't love friends, family, and significant others the same ways and so do most people. I'm sure married people need friends who aren't just each other lol.
Why is it the people who are happily coupled or dont care about relationships always the one telling others you don't need to be with anyone lmao. If they had a completely different life and by some ill-fated event never met their spouse or found anyone that makes them feel the way their spouse does, would they give the same advice...?
I know from watching Joe's vlogs, that after he and Jess broke up, Joe went back to traveling to other countries. It was solo traveling, and spending time with friends he would meet up with along the way. And hanging out with friends, enjoying the single life; from trying out van life camping, going on road trips, going dirt biking on the trails, and going hammock camping by a lake with friends. He hinted that he may have dated a couple people throughout that time on his travels. Then eventually he met Hannah. Edit: And even with Hannah, they have both said that they didn't expect when they first got together that it would lead to marriage. Yet after spending so much time getting to know each other, they fell in love, and decided they wanted to get married and be together.
May you find what you are looking for in a partner to spend your life with.
@@bethnichols2875 I hope so, it's just tiring when people act like those who feel lonely bc they've been single or alone for too long just haven't learned how to love themselves. Or they're desperate. You can spend years on building yourself up, therapy, working, etc until you can genuinely love yourself and still want someone to share it with, it's just human nature. We still have needs and certain things do have a time limit. Self love, contrary to popular belief imo, doesn't solve everything. It's healthy to have and I'm not saying it's useless but prolonged feelings of loneliness makes it hard to hold onto and prioritize.
It's also a pet peeve when people act like working on other relationships or having really good friends should somehow fix it. I love my friends but not like that lol. They're even different types of love and relationships from each other. If a kid was lacking parental figures, friends help to have for support but it's not the parental relationships they want or need. Being told to focus on other relationships when lacking in one feels like trying to fill a cup by overfilling a different one and hoping it trickles over. It's just when people act like humans can live in isolation and relationships/connections are completely optional, like it's a treat
