18.42 depicts how King Mino's wife, Pasiphae, (cursed by Poseidon) fell in love with a bull and thus, the Minotaur was born. Also, in Greek mythology, Deadalus was an inventor (Ikarus' father) and he was the one who made that weird cow-mechanism. Later, Deadalus also made the famous Labyrinth, in order to keep the Minotaur inside, because he fed on human flesh.
Great! I was going to comment on that since John didn't seem to recognized what the pictures were representing. I would have explained it in a very inferior way than you (since I didn't remember many details) so I'm glad you did it :)
You cant... but you can bury it, after putting it out of its misery. That's how you get the achievement, "man bestfriend" (I know this is like 2 years ago, but I had to comment)
It seemed like the ending was taking the piss out of other horror games, for which I appreciated the self-awareness. I'm admittedly a little disappointed, though, because the game was really awesome and I was super invested in the story and we kind of got something super nonsensical after all of this really interesting and moody world building. It felt like a really cheap way out, you know? Also, was the ending meant to imply that Jim became the Gatekeeper and was essentially terrorizing himself? Orrr am I wrong there?
A little late here but i get the feeling they are purposefully doing that, that feeling of an ending of a movie and a game is like a loop that never ends. Still a crappy ending tho
I absolutely love the art style in this game, it's so detailed and it's so cool that they actually sculpted stuff for it as well! That took a real twist at the end there, haha, but I still really liked it! It was all done in a very fun and entertaining way, so in this case, I'm actually not that bothered by the cliches!
This is just my feel for the game but it seems like it was supposed to be longer. The first part had a good flow and mood, then it was like they needed to rush the ending or someone else was in charge of it entirely and just decided to end it quickly without much depth. That's too bad! I thought it was pretty cool regardless.
The woman inside the cow puzzle is a reference to Pasiphaë, who was made to fall in love with a fine bull sent by Poseidon for sacrifice. Her husband elected to keep the bull. This was a great offense, and so the curse was cast. Pasiphaë had a cow shell built so she could be mated by the bull and then she bore the Minotaur.
It also bears mentioning that Ariane is a reference to Ariadne, who guided Theseus out using a magic ball of string, and Daidalos a reference to Daedalus, who constructed the labyrinth that housed the Minotaur. Need to bone up on your mythology, hahaha.
You got to understand that mythos are in no way important to education. When you are not of x descend or the country of the origin of said mythos chances of you wanting to learn about it goes down a lot.
The US education system is a total failure, but I feel like criticizing not knowing something that isn't of a lot of use like this to be a bit pedantic.
I actually love the game - it's a well-executed turn on several cliches. It took several cliches and made them contextually appropriate; it matched the theme of endless wandering/looping and the Greek ties to the story of the Minotaur. There are tons of twists, turns, and dead-ends like in a labyrinth - and like a true Minotaur - there's no escape for Jim (on every level - either in-game story-wise and as a video-game character).

just realized "sonrimor" is an anagram of Morrison after Mr. Daidalos called him Jim Morrison, and now i can't stop seeing Jim Morrison's face (but more like a Zachary Ty Bryan / Jim Morrison hybrid tbh)
The section of the cow is about the Greek myth of Pasiphae. Her husbands asks Poseidon for a bull and Poseidon agrees as long as the bull is sacrificed in his name. The king agrees, but never does. In retaliation, Poseidon places a curse on Pasiphae that she would lust only for the bull. Pasiphae goes to Daedalus for help and he creates a hollow, wooden cow for her to hide in. Pasiphae then becomes pregnant with the minotaur. The king basically laughs and says he doesn't mind that his wife will no longer wish to have sex with him as he has many women. Poseidon then curses the king to release snakes, scorpions, and spiders during intercourse. I hope I wrote this in a way that makes sense.

I love that sometimes during the game John was unaware of the scenery changing (like at 44:48 clown's face is different) because he was so focused on puzzles. such a cool looking game!
True, and it was more tolerable in this game than in others (in my opinion) because of that. I guess I'm just sick of nearly every game pulling this twist lately. It's getting old.
yeah, it's kinda lazy. In this particular game this twist kinda destroys all that psychoanalytical greek imagery. Perhaps it's supposed to remind of inevitability of doom in greek tragedies, but the whole thing doesn't really work.
Romany or Romani, is the proper name of "Gypsy". We don't call ourselves "Gypsy" because it's a racial slur. It has nothing to do with Romania or Romanian people. We're a completely different ethnicity whose origins are from Rajasthan India. So, in the game, it's supposed to be a "Gypsy fortune teller" who was butchered.
loool the cow puzzle is an ancient greek myth. poseidon was mad at minos, so he made his wife, pasiphae, fall in love with a bull. she disguised as a cow, stuff happened, and that how the minotaur was born lol. i love ancient greeks, they really like cows
(I know, I'm late again) To give more context why Poseidon was mad: after Minos ascended to the throne, he and his brothers competed over who is the ruler. Minos prayed to Poseidon to send him a snow-white bull as a sign of Poseidon's favour and Minos was to sacrifice the bull to honor the god, but falling to the bull's beauty he decided instead to keep him. Minos believed that the god would accept a substitute sacrifice and, well, Poseidon didn't. The Minotaur ended up being the prisoner of the Labyrinth Daedalus build, by order of Minos (by advice of the oracle of Delphi), because he basically was a ferocious man-eating monster.
I love how dedicated John is, even to pixelated animals, that he reloads saves to try & prevent the dog from dying... Love, love, love, him for that!!! 😊🐕
I quite like the character dialogue/faces and styling. Sound is neat and silent hill-esque. The various bizarre endings is again, silent hill-esque. I will trust you if you put them on the level of cat lady. Really hope Lorelei will come out this year.

The achievement "Best Friend" is acquired by bringing the shovel and using it after you end the dog's suffering. You then bury the dog. :(

That's something I would do and have done in games before. Dog violence is not cool, but at least it's still just in a fictional game, lol. Love your videos, keep up the good work!
That game was pretty great, really well put together. Would really like to see some classic point and click playthroughs. I wish more interesting puzzle/mystery games were made today by big companies.
18:41 The story of Pasiphae, a queen of Crete who was cursed to fall in love with a bull by Poseidon. Not all that weird as Greek myths go, to be honest. But definitely really, really weird.
He called him Jim Morrison because Sonrimor is an anagram of Morrison!!!! I'm only about halfway through the video so I don't know if John figured that out yet haha
Love this game. But the times you missed those couple of scares (after the baby head puzzle specifically), gaaaaah, that had me frustrated. Still, excellent puzzle solving.
Hey john if you want a new puzzle semi-horror game you should try the 9clues series. It begins with the serpent creek arc and its less than 10€ on steam i believe. Hope you all have a great day!
kaylee those are good if they are the ones made by g5 games :) but aren't those hidden object? I actually like some of big fish games more... Lol cause of the quick recharge hints!
I recognize the bull picture puzzle. Long story short, it is the picture depiction of how the mythological creature the Minotaur came to be. Poseidon cursed a king for deceiving him by causing the king's queen to fall in love with a bull. She "disguised" herself as a cow so that she could "love" the bull. And that was how the Minotaur came to be. I have a thing for mythology. 😊
Watched a couple of your videos the other day and you suddenly became one of my favorite youtubers, your commentary and subtle jokes are the best LOL. Keep it up, you're great. 💕
19:19 ....John did you never hear of the story of the minotaur?? The woman was cursed to fall in love with a bull made to be a sacrifice for Poseidon (Poseidon cursed her in anger). She had a fake cow made, climbed inside and the bull mated with her, resulting in a half-human half-bull hybrid. The minotaur had a taste for human flesh so the husband had a maze built and put the minotaur inside. Shit happened basically and the king demanded that every year 14 children from Athens were to be thrown in the maze for the minotaur to kill. Long story short someone in the end killed the minotaur at some point. btw I wrote this before the video ended ifk yet if he figured it out or not
AlyGames I knew the story of the Minotaur and the maze but that's not a version I was aware of. That explains the operatic version I caught on TV though.
I really like your honest spontaneous reactions ,you never overreact things like other basic multigaming channels . I was watching your videos for a few months now and I didn't even sub don't ask me why lol must have been my lazy ass finger that didn't click on the red block. Anyway, I wish you the best for the growth of your channel, thanks for the entertainment.
I've never heard of this title; great find and playthrough! If you're thinking of doing the other endings/ story paths, I'd be totally interested John. Really love the music in this.
Hey. If you like something like that, try playing Darkwood. This is a top-down adventure horror game, as same as this one, but it terrifies with the story and visuals a lot :).

That's something I would do and have done in games before. Dog violence is not cool, but at least it's still just in a fictional game, lol. Love your videos, keep up the good work!
Nibull.... IT'S GOBLIN SPELLED BACKWARDS!
thank u for the troll 2 callback mr wolfe i appreciate you
They're eating her! Then they're going to eat me! OH MY GAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWD!
Searched the comments hoping someone else noticed haha! Greatest movie ever made!
"YOU'RE the one who's imaginary" Wow, John didn't even know he was foreshadowing the game
John, you have a super cool bad guy voice like when you voice acted the caretaker - lovin it!
😭 Joseph spartan kicked her.
jim* joseph was the crochety old man who ate people lol
That was some kind of insanely wild ride.... for as weird as it was, it's good you had a good time with it!
Love this game.
But the times you missed those couple of scares (after the baby head puzzle specifically), gaaaaah, that had me frustrated. Still, excellent puzzle solving.
yessss time to get cozy with my sketchbook and a john video on a saturday night
the ideaaaalll
Omg omg John more than 1 hour is always welcome
OH MY GOD YES! ♡
The voice is back ♡
Thank you so much John! Just that alone made my day!
Keep up the amazing work! Love your videos!
Lol cause of the quick recharge hints!
wow john is so great, he really deserves so much more recognition
That first puzzle is Pasifae impregnated by a bull. That's how Minotaur was born.
Ivy G :)
I actually really liked the game and also loved the way you voiced the Caretaker, it was awesome
Jim himself when we see his face close up reminds me of Zachary Thomas for some reason. (Brad from Home Improvement)
He kind of does, though I felt he kind of looks like James Sunderland from SH2.
John, get cracking on those achievements.
The town of Nilbog. I got your reference to Troll 2.
SOOO GLAD YOU POSTED. My days been shit...
Had to finish the story after watching Matt and Pat.
00:19:27 Johns recapitulation of the pictures is just gold.
To incorporate accurate Greek mythology into a video game is a refreshing idea.
1 hour in - A painting of "The Scourge of Carpathia" Dude, it's the painting from Ghostbusters II.
A couple minutes later - "I'm not a ghostbuster or anything."
