What a cool project for Alicia's family. One of the things that inspired my interest in film photography was my relatives digitizing their photos and home videos from over the years and having great memories to share with the rest of us.
I totally agree. The best photographs are the ones that evoke emotion, and looking back at our past really does that. Others might look at those photos and think there's nothing special, that the lighting was less than ideal and composition was an after thought, but they might have a much deeper meaning. Something that doesn't show up on the paper or screen: the memories of what you experienced.
My family threw away their negatives decades ago probably. Unforgivable. They got no presents from me. J/k. But honestly, seeing I couldn't bring back those memories to a second life with new technologies.. Made me hell of a sad person. So now it's up to me to hold some photo & video standards for my own family and relatives. Happy holidays and happy new year, Brae.
Great work, really inspiring! I’m currently visiting my wife’s family for Christmas in KC, and bought a point and shoot film camera along so that we could document the holidays. Looking forward to sharing the results with the family once we get the scans back.
Very cool video man, merry Xmas to you and your family! Just today with my family we were watching old 8mm films and VHS tapes that I had scanned some time ago and everyone was so happy to see this, we had a great time!
Merry Christmas To You & Alicia! …agreed and when you are photographing your grandchildren and watching them grow, the holidays so meaningful. 🎄 Several years ago I started doing family portraits for my daughter to use for her family’s Christmas cards and over the years it’s a beautiful document for them and family to cherish.
Such a nice video and so agree with your sentiments. My parents generation here in India could not afford photography. Just no one had any cameras and only photos from that would be from events or people visiting from abroad. I started taking photos on a digicam in 2000s and truly capturing everyday life since I got iPhone in 2013. I lost my dad in 1995 and have only a handful of photos of him. So taking photos of my kids and our family somehow comes naturally
Thank you so much for making this video! 1000% agree with the message and as always the quality of the content is top notch. Thank you for taking time during your holidays to share with us!
Hi Brae, very nice change of video. Very important. I think its quite funny that I am always taking picture but for some reason never really take any family pics apart from my girlfriend. Need to do that more. I'm a photographer for 12 years and maybe have 2 pictures of my mom... wtf haha
