What is your favorite song by The Beatles?
From Paul: For No One. From John: In My Life. From George: something. From Ringo: Octopus' Garden
We Can Work it Out
There's a lot to like.
all of them
I saw her standing there. (I can probably write a whole short story why that simplistic song eventually changed the world.)
I have 1 word that all these musicians have in common : Jealousy.
My thoughts exactly.
I agree!
A lot of people said Elvis was jealous of The Beatles! I believe it’s true!
@@A.Briggs628 why?
@@vaughnreedjr6592
Because the Beatles were gaining attention and Elvis was worried that they would take away the attention of the fans.
And, they did.
Big time Jealousy.
I think there’s a lot of these guys are mad because they’re technically great musicians yet the Beatles still get more recognition. There are a whole lotta master musicians out there who never made it. A song doesn’t have to be complicated and difficult to be good
True and a lot of those great musicians can't write a song beyond 3 or 4 chords! Here there and everywhere had a pile of jazz chords, Yesterday has a pile too, as they used to say, Beatle chords!
The funny thing is that the majority of Beatles songs were the opposite of 3-4 chord songs. They were quite advanced in chord and melodic structures (but they were completely absorbable for the masses). That's not something you'd say about most of these opponents' songs. But the Beatles were not technically advanced musicians. Like the session and jazz musicians Quincey would hang around. Nevertheless, Jaco Pastorius said that he was very influenced by Paul McCartney as a bass player
George Martin was the genius not Lennon or McCartney.
@@juandoming6688 Funny he didn't make his own best-selling records then. His genius was as a producer, not as an artist or a songwriter. That's like saying Quincy Jones was the talent, not Michael Jackson.
The Beatles sounded good on their own. I could listen to John’s home demos all day
As a musician, I don’t trust any other musician who doesn’t like the Beatles.
In fairness, a lot of those mentioned were themselves contemporaries and hence, direct competitors. It’s no different than internal rivalries between different rappers and between different metal acts
Amen
That's unfortunate
I'm thinking maybe I don't trust anybody who doesn't like the Beatles. There is something significantly lacking in such people.
@@dickon728 All it is a difference of opinion.
The Beatles started out as pop music because that's what rock was then. Their music became progressive and psychedelic. So much more influential than any of the others.
They're jealous a holes.
Indeed!
But think about their early years like in Germany - they were doing R&B, soul, pop, early rock - people thought of them as pop, but that had some of every scene that was happening in the early 60s. Including "til there was you" which I always found embarassing.
@@georgejasper8794 - Their approach to the song was a lot different from the producers of Anita Bryant's original. Perhaps the use of acoustic guitars and light percussion was influenced by the American Folk Music of the 50s & 60s?
Never seen Lou Reed and Frankenstein in the same room.
Now do a list about musicians who love The Beatles and were greatly influenced by their music. I bet that list would be much longer.
That would be an 8 hrs video, rightfully so

@@SilentProti
Absolutely!!
No-brainer
That list, it would seem, would include many of the bands and people mentioned here who have changed their tune as they've matured. I watch reaction videos of kids who weren't an idea in their father's balls when the Beatles came along, and as hip hop kids they find themselves transfixed by what they're hearing for the first time. They're expanding their musical vistas and knowledge just as Millennials and Zs are. The things we disregard when we were younger may just turn out to be the things we hold in high regard when we get older.
50 years on and the Beatles are still the best known band in the world, what they achieved in 7 or 8 years will never be equalled.
If they ever are equaled I hope to God that I don't miss it. But I will probably be long gone before that happens. John , Paul, George, and Ringo were born while World War 2 was going on. The next miracle genius band members will probably be born while World War 3 is going on.
Plenty of people that are the most known in their industry. It seems there's a tradeoff to be high quality and be well known.
Hell, I can't wait for the day that they are exposed for being mediocre.
@@lynnefromthelake they are SO medicore!!! The only explanation is that their political popularity exceeded their musical ability, or they signed a deal with the devil, or both. Nobody has ever done that before or since.
When I hear people who make music as boring as REM or Harry Connick Jr, criticising The Beatles, all I can do is laugh.

Envy is a pernicious thing
Hi all,
I was born in USSR and was a Fan of the Beatles for entire life, never heard about The Who and other haters, even though it was nearly impossible to find any foreign records. But everyone new and loved the Beatles. That’s right, the Jealousy unites all of those not well known musicians..
Some of these musicians wished they had 1/2 the success of the Beatles.
What gets lost on these musicians is the fact that the Beatles literally caused music to move in a new trajectory. That in and of itself is amazing.
Love the Beatles ….changed my music and life for the better. Don’t care who didn’t like them. If it’s another musician, they much be jealous. BEATLES best band ever. And I’m an American.

Best band of all time.. never to be surpassed..
Did Pete Townshend like any musician that wasn't himself? From what I've heard/read over the years, I certainly get the impression that he didn't like anyone who was in a band that was bigger than The Who.
He was pretty nasty to Jimi Hendrix at the Monterey Pop festival
@@lysirishfleur3030 Because he feared Hendrix. When he first heard Hendrix he called Clapton, who he didn't know, and said that they were out of their jobs.
And Townshend isn't much of a guitar player anyway.
Townshend BLOWS... LITERALLY!
Agree! He hated Led Zeppelin. Thought they were a Who ripoff because they had the same lineup. Sorry, Pete, you're not even close to being in Jimmy Page's league.
Forever frustrated because The Who never scored a Number 1. And then Keith Moon was in the running to be the drummer for Led Zep.
The Beatles will always be the best rock band ever . Everyone else are just jealous of the Beatles fame .
Yep.
I agree 💯% better than the Stones 🪨
The Beatles were an overrated bunch of musically inept buffoons with an over developed sense of self worth and ability, that they just managed to appear on the music scene at the right time EARLY in Rock History and that is how they managed to become famous world wide, is pathetic.
Never were a really great live band though, and even gave up touring so they will always have that against them for being the greatest 'rock' band.
I plump for Zeppelin myself. Incredible both in the studio and on stage.

Long after these self-indulgent bands are forgotten people will still be talking about the Beatles. What does that tell you?
To be fair, people should also be talking about , Cream, Velvet Underground, Who, etc, alongside the Beatles, for the foreseeable future
Some of the people who dissed The Beatles in this video are ALREADY legends alongside The Beatles.
The Stones will still be touring.
You nailed that reply. Thank you from a cousin of George.
They will also be talking about Queen, IMHO.
Sour grapes. It wasn't just their music, it was their personalities that captivated us. IMO Ginger Baker, the Kinks, Quincy Jones, etc. had personalities like a snake. A big part of why the Beatles were/are so beloved was because they were charming and witty. Each one was soecial in his own way.
So funny, and so true.
To be fair, some of the Beatles turned out to also have snake like personalities once you dug a bit deeper.
Can't people just not like their music. I mean Michael Stipe was not a competitor of the Beatles...he just didn't dig it. Also Harry Connick JR seemed to grow up loving old school crooner music. That type of guy probably doesn't like the Beatles or any Rock Bands. I really find it interesting that people get offended when people dislike something they like. Sometimes people just have different tastes.
Sometimes people dislike something that's good and popular just to be provocative. Sometimes they don't know what they're talking about. Sometimes it's a question of taste. Musicians that don't like The Beatles are suspect to me.
What the beatles accomplised is beyoned compare period. They were/are amazing and always will be. Long live the Fab Four!
The Beatles are the very best! I’m a musician myself! The Beatles are better than me on my very best day! I’m inspired by them!
The Beatles forever!
Ginger Baker didn't like anyone. He was a real piece of work.
I found Ginger Baker's reasons for not liking the beatles too contrived.
A real stinker.
Baker was Incredibly Overrated. And ANYONE who knows ANYTHING about the Beatles knows McCartney is the most accomplished Musician in that band.
Same with Lou Reed.
Just one band for me.....that's The Beatles, they will always be my favourite. The 60's though was a great era for bands and there were lots of great ones. As for "The Who", well John Entwhistle told me himself at a music show (I was working on a stand at the time) that his biggest influence in Bass playing was Paul McCartney. That's good enough for me from an icon such as him. Long live The Beatles Music
Even in 2023 they are still the biggest band in the World
yep, that says it all right there!
Yup. And their music will still be played on the 2323 space shuttles between earth and the next habitable planets or moons.
Elvis sold more records than the mop heads. The Beatles are so arrogant, how can anyone like such pinheads?

Nah, they just inspired all those boy bands.

Some of my favorite musicians and some of the most unique musicians and most uniquely gifted musicians in all of popular music weren’t fans of The Beatles. This includes Zappa, Bowie and Prince for example, though they were all huge fans of The Rolling Stones, lol. Even though I love The Beatles, the fact the some of these artists weren’t fans isn’t a statement on the quality of the Beatles work, but a testament to the unique way that these other artists heard music, and I’m really grateful for that. I would hate for all music to sound the same even if it was as good as The Beatles.
Prince, really? I'd read that he listened to them as a kid and was influenced by them. Wrong?

Or maybe just maybe the Beatles aren’t good…. Much like the rest of euro artists of the time the stuff that made them popular was stolen from blues and soul musicians not borrowed as the narrator may tell you….once there was nothing left to “borrow” where was the good stuff they actually wrote…… so they stole from other musicians…. this supposed revolution era Beatles came from the hippie movement that they originally were against… and lastly they were *NSYNC of the 60s they were a manufactured boy band that was tweaked in the studio by a producer which made them sound “good” they wore matching suits and instead of danced they played instruments… only one I give credit to is George because his Beatle songs were actually well written and do you want to know a secret is sadly underrated

Some Beatles fans cannot accept they are not everyones favorite band
Well sir you a far more brave person than I to state what believe on a comment section dominated by people who love the Beatles. I think I am one of the very few who, although there can be no doubt they had talent, It is far not as incredible as some people view it. Since I was teen when they hit the world, many people forget they, in my opinion hit the sweet spot. At the same time they appeared, there was the Vietnam war, anti social protests. The women's movement, the Black pride movement, the non-conformist movement and so their appearance of rebellion struck a chord with the pent-up desires of Americas youth. They challenge the norms of the day and swept up thousands of young folks. One cannot possibly think their first 7 songs were groundbreaking. They stayed on the charts because they were the rage that capture the mindset of thousands of young people and became embedded in the fans base mind set. Had they come about in the 50s or late 70s,80s,90s, I think their initial music would not have resonated as much with American youth. They built such a fan base that as the years went by people believe that most of the music as a group or solo they were creating was fantastic. Full disclosure , I am a Beach Boy Fan. I feel their music captured the quintessential themes of life. The guys sang about fast cars, Friday Nite romance, girl meets guy , guy loses girl, etc. The parties at the Beach. A few more themes , . Think about it ,I want hold your hand, She loves you, Can't but me love, 8 days a week. Michelle, what themes are they referring. Next you Hey Jude, 8 min. of repeating the same 2 lines over and over again,....Let it be was a protest song that struck a nerve with those who were affected by the War and of course the idea of peace in the world. The Beatles themselves said they were influenced by the music of the Fifties. After 1970 just what Music did they influence. It was the disco era about to explode. they hit the sweet spot and in person I can deliver and overwhelming rebuttal to Beatle ardent fans........Thanks for listening and ....Good luck You

B Wo Yeah like all the people who say Babe Ruth wasn't the greatest baseball player. Just to be contrary they pick some other player and make up BS about how he was better. Why do people do that?
I think that the source of the vitriol could be traced back to the over the top coverage and reviews from various music critics and the Beatle fandom that remains unmatched. It leaves certain musicians confused and probably frustrated because they only see the veneer. They see what they want to see. A guy like Ginger Baker was forever perplexed by the mystery of McCartney's many gifts- and this despite not being classically trained. Where Baker festered in frustration, Dylan could only find fascination, like the rest of us. It also, I believe, has to do with these artists trying to pigeonhole a band that knew no bounds of genre. Maybe they changed things up too much for them. They didn't rock out enough. I don't know. These are opinions we're talking about here. A comment like "The Beatles are for second graders" has an ironic elegance to it, especially since it was not intended to imply that it was stated by a first grader. And what is probably the funniest aspect to all of this is that some of these guys were influenced by bands that were influenced by guess who? And they have no idea about that.
Whoa! Kerry Livgren of Kansas couldn’t read or write musical notation, and yet composed some of the greatest and most complicated progressive music ever laid down on vinyl. A true musical genius! And a kind and gentle person.
The Beatles were routinely brilliant and directly or indirectly influenced EVERYONE in the music business. One reviewer wrote that not liking the Beatles is as perverse as not liking the sun. My favorite Beatles track would have to be "Lady Madonna", a perfect radio song. I would say none of the detracting artists were ever so profound in under 3 minutes.

@@jnagarya519 agreed.
In all fairness to the Who, it was Townsend who had a problem with the Beatles...as well as The Stones, and Led Zeppelin.
@@rustybear5125 You illustrate the fact: those who fell for "Led Zeppelin" were seeking something to equal "The Beatles" who were loved by their older siblings and or parents.
"Led Zeppelin" was hyped up "Yardbirds" and appeared after "The Beatles" broke up. That's why you erroneously include "Led Zeppelin" with "The Betels" and "The Rolling Stones".
Here's a clue for you all: "The Beatles" still outsell even "The Rolling Stones," and "The Rolling Stones" became a band AFTER "The Beatles" were already performing on radio shows, and BEFORE "Led Zeppelin" existed.
When Jimmy Page was looking to resurrect the moribund "Yardbirds" he was going to call the band "The NOEW Yardbirds"; but Keith Moon told him that name would go over like a lead balloon, so he thought up "Led Zeppelin" (look up the "Hindenburg" balloon disaster).
And at least "The Beatles" and "The Rolling Stones" credited the original composers of the songs they covered, which "Led Zeppelin" was OPPOSED to doing because they might have to share the money with their "heroes".
Can’t be mad at Trent Reznor. Respect for actually listening to Beatles records and changing his opinion.

It's true that The Beatles would've been a very different Band without GEORGE MARTIN.
The Producer of any Band's recordings is responsible for the final sound of the product.
The Producer can decide which instruments play which parts and structure the verses and chorus.
The Producer can decide who sings which harmonies.
The Producer decides a lot more than the listener is aware.
In 1962, at one of their first recording sessions with George Martin, he asked the Beatles " Is there anything you don't like?"
Quick as a flash, George Harrison said "Well, for one thing, I don't like your tie!!"
George Martin later said in an interview that "From that moment, I knew we'd get on very well"
I recently bought 2 different two-disc sets of Beatles live at BBC. All early material played "live" in studio with no audience at BBC. Theres a lot of songs that were covers and never made it to a Beatles album. Lots of Chuck Berry, amongst others. Anyhow, with no audience...no screaming,... one can really hear how tight those 4 were. Harmonies galore, great guitar playing, about 80 songs in all, also with a bunch BBC 15 second mini-interviews . I think they were at their tightest then, and it is tighter than anything most other "great bands" ever played live that I've heard. Its tight early rock. Who cares if other musicians cant dig it? I've been a huge fan for 55 years, early Beatles and later Beatles, and I am more impressed than ever after listening to these early BBC recordings.
The Beatles' recordings speak for themselves. The collection you mention gives an insight into what the band were like at the beginning of their recording career. The evolution from the early recordings to stuff like the White Album is incredible.
The Beatles were talented. They started at a very young age and then become very successful.I was a teenager back then and I always listen to their songs on the radio.

Most of them are just jealous that they never reached that point in their time with their own band. I overall loved the Beatles because, they werent just one style of music, some bluesy, so slow, some fast, these other bands, just jealous
And they were genuine, outspoken fans of so many other musicians-both contemporary and earlier ones. They were openminded in so many ways.

They may have been influenced by van halen, Bowie, rush, led zeppelin, black sabbath, alice cooper. Deep purple etc.
David Bowie and Queen were influenced by The Beatles
I was born in the early 70s so I'm pretty aware of the Beetles and all the other musicians. I don't like or dislike any of them. But I feel like some of the musicians are a little hypocritical considering they do/did the exact same thing that they say they dislike about the Beetles. And Michael Style, c'mon now he thinks the Beetles are elevator music. What about R. E. M? I'd 10times rather be stuck in an elevator forced to listen to the Walrus instead of everybody hurts. That should be blasted over the speakers at Guantanamo Bay. Just my opinion.
I fed up with all this talk of 'the best' and 'the greatest' and 'the most loved/hated'. This is art. Not a horse or dog-track race. There are no winners and losers and seconds and also-rans. Art isn't a competition to see who comes out on top. It's not a fast sprint to the finish line against rivalled runners. Some people worship Bob Dylan; others think he sounds like a fog horn winding down. Taste is personal and there is no accounting for it. I like what I like and you do you. That's the way it works. Any artist can learn just as much from the stuff he or she dislikes as from the works that move and inspire them. If we all liked the same things the world would be a very boring place indeed.
The Beatles after all are a musician’s band.
There were some songs I don't like , but respect them as a talented band albeit before my time.
@@11235but They were better because they wrote better songs. Period. You need to have heard the other songs at the time.
@@jnagarya519 exactly and the Beatles are still better than most new stuff.
You are not going to like every song a group does. But let's face it there is a lot of classic songs there by the Beatles you will like.
Most people who met the lads separately, seemed to like Paul. and George. But not John too much
From what I gather John seemed a bit arrogant. Paul seemed to be liked the best.
@@truthteller9154 Paul was the dishonest diplomat. John was honest.
@@jnagarya519 Very true, and honesty might not get you a lot of friends but it'll get you the right ones. John was honest to a fault and that's one of the very many things I adore him for.
@@truthteller9154He had every right to be arrogant!
@@staceykeeley4219 Indeed but not everyone likes to be around someone who carries themselves that way.
Can't wait for Len Berry's 50th anniversary releases...
The Beatles were good at what they did. If what they did, wasn’t appealing then it’s quite different from saying they’re were lousy. I get the feeling that some of the comments were made by contrarians trying to set themselves apart from the masses.
I wouldn't put Elvis in this category,he love the Beatles music.
Concur; I'm at the age where I still love their music, but can't believe I used to emulate them.
懐かしいありがとうございます。AMEN
Yoko Ono always said she wasn't a Beatles fan.
What about Frank Zappa? I mean, he accused the Beatles of only being in it for the money after the band cited him as an influence when making Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and this was what led Zappa to make his album We're Only In It For The Money, whose album cover even satirized Sgt. Pepper's.
Like 80% of classic rock bands are in it for the money
Zappa only liked 3 Beatles songs:
Strawberry Fields Forever
Paperback Writer
I Am The Walrus
Zappa was a dick, always hated that guy.
@@MarkMikelVideos And yet "The Beatles" influenced him to the extent that he made an entire LP satirizing them. Satire as the sincerest form of flattery.
John Lennon said, from the beginning, that he wanted to be rich and famous. And I've yet to learn of ANY musician, rock or otherwise, who wanted to be poor and unknown.
No one gets into the music industry for respect or the "lolz"
Half the people who diss the Beatles actually never listened to there full work and there later albums, the sixties had quite a few solid bands with amazing experimental hits but so did the Beatles
The haters only listened to the commercial hits😂
A lot of this is taking quotes out of context. Especially the section on the Who. When Townshend said that the Beatles sounded "lousy," he meant it as a compliment (seriously!) because he was explaining to an interviewer why musicians needed to watch out for overpolishing productions. By "lousy," he simply meant that the Beatles embraced a certain cacophonous quality which gave their music texture.
I can't blame anyone for not liking Lennon's solo work, or Paul's. They needed each other to keep each other in line.
How sad. I don't like anyone that does t like the Beatles. They pioneered so many music breakthroughs. Thier music nevere sounded the same like other groups did.
According to the Genius Book of World Records, Barry Gibb is the 2nd most successful songwriter in the history of music! The Beatles suck.
Every one of these critics (who are still living) of The Beatles will eventually be like Salieri in the film "Amadeus": jealous and frustrated that the music of The Beatles will endure beyond their own.
I love the music of each of these bands who hated them but when the dusts settle, The Beatles will always come on top. Without The Beatles' innovation in the early 60s, they wouldn't be making their music nowadays, would day? The Fab Four opened up a lot of doors for all kinds of music and they got by with what technology was available to them then. I might be wrong but I have to see anyone who isn't familiar with any of the Moptops" songs. You can't erase anything that's engraved in stone.
Goes to prove that you can't please everyone.
The Beatles was the most hyper-merchandised and exploited group of all time (my opinion), but Beatlemania was real. I was a devoted Beatles fan from the beginning, at age 16 in 1964. My favorite music was from their early years. It was music for teenagers, and I was one, and it was fresh and exciting. But Revolver was the first album that began to disappoint me, although I stayed loyal throughout the decade. I did not mourn when they broke up in 1970, and I did not follow their careers, when they went their separate ways.
We all grow and change over time, and music is always evolving. The Beatles was not the Last Word in music, as it turned out. There was an abundance of other good music during the 60's that was eclipsed by The Beatles, unfortunately. But The Beatles remains my all time favorite group, for old time, teenage's sake.
Neat piece. Interesting to hear all those opinions, and the creator deserves a lot of credit for compiling this and sharing it. The fact that nearly every musician listed was introduced by the songs we might know them by (because they might otherwise be unrecognizable), versus the Beatles obviously needing no example hits or anything...well that says it all. Obviously you don't have to love the Beatles. It is a lesson that you can probably get more attention punching up than criticizing a 3rd rate one hit wonder. All the bands that were big in early '00 used to hate on Brittney and the Boy Bands...why? Because those '00's bands sucked. They couldn't hold a candle to the 90's bands and they knew it, so they hate to hate on losers. At least the people in this video know to hate on the best band ever...It's more interesting!
back in 70s the beatles lost favor with many teens. it was almost out of fashion, or unhip to say you liked them. if asked, do you like the beatles or the stones? the answer would almost invariably be the stones. but they could rarely defend their position. if asked to name songs they liked they would name about 10 beatles' songs but only two or three stones songs. people are fickle. they too eagerly and blindly follow trends and jump on band wagons without thinking and without reason.
me? i've been a beatle afficianado practically my whole life. one thing the beatles did was introduce me to all kinds of different music. you can like the beatles and other bands and other genres too. personally, the beatles brought so much enjoyment and pleasure into my life. other bands did too but never at the level the beatles did. one thing the beatles did was bring quality to "pop" music. they were essentially hard core rockers who wrote and played GOOD "commercial" music that appealed to a mass, international and ageless fan base. also, they helped make non-commercial music "commercial."
it became known as "the counter culture." and the beatles were a big part of the counter culture. the beatles began as as "club" band in hamburg and the cavern. raunchy, raw and exciting. then they became "teen idols" slick, commercial and teenie-bopper oriented. but they continued to grow and mature with their fans. they experimented and innovated. the beatles were truly a unique and special music and cultural phenomenon.
Ginger Baker is just a snobe.
When a band dominates for theyll always have haters and the jealous saying things about them. It's human nature for the insecure.
I agree with many of the criticisms of the Beatles here. But I still love them, and there's still no one like them.
Except for Elvis and the Who, I had never heard of them before... 😄
As far as Conick is concerned, how about Ella Fitzgerald doing "Can't Buy Me Love" or Frank Sinatra doing "Yesterday" or "Something "?
Elvis presley loved the Beatles music as he usually covered their songs but he I think he wasn't a fan of john lennon clearly ( He covered 5 or 6 Beatles songs. All of them mccartney songs)
Something is a George song
@@Anne6621 True. Still he never did a john song
Elvis covered the McCartney sappy, because Elvis was always sappy.

Reed was nothing more than a spoiled graduate from Syracuse.
And violently sociopathic -- "rough trade" gay and glorifier of heroin.

@@josephcooter5763 Reed was very much in-group, out-group. Carruth is a superior poet, at least in my view (I also have other favorite poets). And I doubt he knew Reed was viewing Carruth as "elite," as Carruth's self-opinion, I think, wouldn't be that he was elite.
We're in agreement about Reed having a shitty attitude.
