Personally, I prefer an "optional return mission" where I just call the Blunderbird taxi to pick me up from Duna. P.S. I never knew you could repack parachutes!
Been playing on Xbox for near three months, landed on minmus and the mun with Jeb still alive. Duna is a real test, all i want is to orbit and return but my god I'm struggling. I watched so many tutorials but i still can't get it right. Big Jeb will do it tho I have faith!!
Welp,I make a double encounter with Jool and Eve,I don't know how even that possible, maybe because I drag too much prograde marker and retrograde marker, also the encounter mark sometime's confusing me 😅😅
I had to quickload the landing part on duna like 50 times because fricking landing legs always tip over for some reason but then i increased damper strength and it wirked
I just did this and it's now 6:00am. I had a great time, but I did have one issue. After planting the flag and attempting to climb aboard again, Jebediah got STUCK on the ladder. As much as he tried, he just couldn't reach the top. So I told him to hold on tight to the ladder while Bob clumsily flew the ship back into space without SAS at which point Jebediah could finally let go and use his jetpack to get back to the capsule door. Good times.
Awesome work, rescuing Jeb the Kerbal way 😎. That's what I love about this game, you can always find a work around to save the mission (most of the times lol)
Make sure the ladder isn’t obstructed by anything. The same thing happened to me once during a Mun landing and it turned out it was due to a battery getting in the way so I had to resort to the EVA pack
I’m imagining a real life mission where an astronaut gets stuck on the ladder and they’re just like “ehhh hold on tight you’ll be fine after we get into orbit
love your tutorials Orb8Ter. Thank you for this video in particular. The rocket building is ESPECIALLY helpful since so many YT'ers don't seem to want to show it (talking to you Matt Lowne). It really helps noobs to understand the thinking in the construction before wasting frustrating hours and understanding the reasoning.
I reached Duna! I started using this tutorial at first for the rocket but the I just went my own route and eventually did a successful landing and return! So thanks for partially helping I guess :D
This enabled me to do my only oribiting mission first try, with some extra style points by orbiting ike aswell and returning home with 1600 m/s left. To adjust your maneuver even finer open the maneuver tab on the bottom left while having your maneuver open and on the right top of it there should be a field where you can open a finer maneuver adjusting tab (: for anyone that doesnt know (: Thank you alot for this!
I have watched a lot of tutorial but none can help me with KSP. This is the only one that I understand and be able to get to Duna. Thanks a lot! You earn a subscriber
I didn't even notice when the 50 minutes passed! Well that was so entertaining and quite helpful, might try it out when I unlock a bit more of the tech tree ;)
The more of these I watch, the more I understand everything in ksp. I still haven’t gotten to the Mun, let alone Duna, but these still teach me a lot for me to go to these places!
Firstly, thank you so much. Your video was very well explained and easy to follow. Secondly, thanks to your very well explained and easy to follow vid, I have now reached Duna. Ive owned the game for 2 years and the furthest ive gotten before today was Minmus. Unfortunately, I somehow cant manage to keep enough fuel to get home to Kerbin and I think this is preventing me from getting the trophy on Playstation for visiting Duna. Nether the less, we made it and its all thanks to you.
I am new to the game. With your tutorial i made it to duna on the first try but I had a engineer Lvl 0 on board. So I couldn´t repack the parachutes. Now at a new try I am lost on my way back to Kerbin in the Orbit of Duna, because no matter how often I will try it. My fuel wont last as long as in the video. At least I can send a rescue mission home. Thank you for your work ;)
Wow! An Orb8Ter video that isn't three years old. Hey! It's from _today!_ Cool. This is a nice little video because (successfully) landing on Duna is something I haven't done yet. I have a crew up there that survived a crash landing that I need to rescue. Learning to use Thrust Limiter to set a manageable (1.35) TWR on launch and to lengthen those little short burns in space (especially transfer orbits to rendezvous with other spacecraft) made KSP a lot less frustrating for me. By the way - I always auto-strut to the heaviest part, not to the root or grandfather. Is there some reason I would choose any one of these three in particular?
Reading this three years in the future. If this message can travel through time, buy as much hand sanitizer and bitcoin as possible. It sounds crazy, but trust me.
You know what I'd like to see a video about? I have no idea what many of the settings do, especially the video settings. I get, in general, that the higher the value, the better the graphics, but at the expense of performance, but what each one does is a mystery to me. I'd like some tips on what are the ones to maximize for the best experience, and which ones to leave alone, especially if you're somebody like me who's using a computer from 2010. I've looked around a bit on the web for such a tutorial but haven't found one.
This is a wonderful rocket design really stable and very flyable, the tutorial really helped too thanks for posting it. I did all the flying and whatnot landed on duna and realised i brought a level 0 engineer hahaha they cant repack parachutes until level 1. Train your engis up people :)
I reached Duna! I started using this tutorial at first for the rocket but the I just went my own route and eventually did a successful landing and return! So thanks for partially helping I guess :D
hahaha thanks man! i got stuck on duna because i brought along a few more things but i managed to rescue the crew! i got like 1400 science so thank u very much!
Begginer question; how do you swap from Duna view back to space craft?? Seen in other tutorials as well, that view changes, but I can only do it by passing by all objects... :-(
Good video i wanted to test this rocket out on my own so i did, personally if u do do this add some SRBs barely made it back to earth without landing on duna
no matter how much of an expert you are at this game, there will always be something forgotten or missed out on. Doesn't matter if its your 10th, or 1000th mission. It might be time skipping too quickly only to crash into the mun, getting all the way to another planet, forgetting to equip the ship with mobility enhancers, or in this vid's case: releasing the clamps before throttiling up.
Orb8Ter please make it into a series for all planets and moons even satalight builds, ive had about 50 hrs and I still carnt get to the mun. This is a really helpfully tutorial that I will try to follow along too.
Great tutorial.... been subbed for a while, but started playing KSP again with the 1.11 update. Do you have a beginner tutorial like this for Eve and Jool systems?
Ah didn't mean to normally the music is too quite even if it's OK in the editing program I will have to double check using different audio outs mobile, speakers etc.. Thanks 🙂
Whoa dude! Amazing tutorial. Thank you so much!!! So to be sure I rebuild your rocket but I havea little bit less Delta Vthan you have. Is it because of 1.7.3 version? Did they change anything? Great video!!!
try building a docking lander module, like the apollo style. might take some more time and effort and a bigger rocket, but you'll have enough to get back if you keep your reserve rocket in orbit with duna while you get down on the lander. rendezvous back up to it and get back to kerbin!
Someone needs to make a canon KSP story where Scott, Matt, Mike Aben, and a few others are all on Kerbin at the same time running their own space companies.

I got there using the same rocket I use to go to the Mün. And I came back ok?
I have just designed my first one with mining equipment (no sci lab), 51 ton lander powered by 4 nervs (yes im noob!) and launched a bit early where the journey there costs about 1500m/s delta V. I used Marcus House's video to manually calculate delta V and it appears I have too much...5100+! Perfect for a noob like me but Im gonna milk Duna whilst Im there so 4 biomes on Duna, 3 on Ike, refuel and come back. I've had problems installing the KER engineer mod - I followed instructions on readme for KER but there is no button or chip, although it does state it is loading these items when loading the game. Do you know if KER works with Breaking Ground? I dont have History exp. set and the only other mod i have installed is Alarm clock. Also I am trying to install this after I started my career mode and do not want to start again as I am in a good place for funds and science. Also I am bringing only 1 science experiment storage unit - do you know if there is a limit to how much science can be stored in these? Also I have been experimenting with re-entry with service bays only and its fine as long as the peri is around 50km so I'll need to aerobrake to return the entire craft. I have also been experimenting using those rectangular struts as landing legs (as they have a impact tolerance of 80m/s). Playing around whilst testing re-entry i used only 2 chutes for a 42 tons and landed safely on Kerbin at 19.7m/s, near 44 mph!!! haha
Personally, I prefer an "optional return mission" where I just call the Blunderbird taxi to pick me up from Duna.
P.S. I never knew you could repack parachutes!
N.B. i think only engineers can repack chutes.
I never knew either
How do you repack them?
Make A Kerbal Eva then double click the parachutes then it says repack click it.
Edit: oh im late OOOOPS!
Any kerbal can repack parachutes
I personally think that getting to the planet isn't hard - It's designing a rocket capable of doing so that's hard.
Try x6.4, realfuels and TAC Life support fora real challenge!
That is true getting to Duna is easy just making sure you have a rocket to get back is harder took me three attempts when I started playing ksp
For me it’s both I only have like182 hrs I’m pretty new still
I suck at building rockets I have this problem
no its not, i literally threw some fuel tanks and engines together and landed right on there
Been playing on Xbox for near three months, landed on minmus and the mun with Jeb still alive. Duna is a real test, all i want is to orbit and return but my god I'm struggling. I watched so many tutorials but i still can't get it right.

How did it go?

Someone tell me how I got a Jool encounter from trying to go to Duna
Welp,I make a double encounter with Jool and Eve,I don't know how even that possible, maybe because I drag too much prograde marker and retrograde marker, also the encounter mark sometime's confusing me 😅😅
Jools SOI is very very big
Big gravity

try rectangular struts instead, the ones with 80 m/s tolerance ;)

Well, sir, I should have gotten to know your channel WAY before! I´m having a lot of fun and gaining a BUNCH of knowledge. THANK you for the videos!

Very good video :) I didn't even notice it was that long! But it was entertaining and informative
You should try Better Timewarp to control time warping more accurately especially on long trips.
Yeah I have a timewarp mod it's awesome just kept it as much stock as possible 😎
