  • In a day of replace instead of repair, I decided to give a shot at the art of rebuilding single cylinder 2 stroke crankshafts. I filmed this video a while ago and never got around to actually posting any of it. I hope you found the process of rebuilding this YZ125 crankshaft entertaining!

    I’ve never seen crank truing before. It really is an art. Enjoyed the video man 🤙

    I haven't seen anybody do that, since I did them, back in the day, when my buddy seized-up his Suzuki RM 125, at full speed.The Rod was fused to the Crank, it
    took a lot of pressure, in the press to get it apart, but I got it back together, less than .001, and it ran great. Now I'm looking to do my 1988 CR500 crank, that's been sitting around for years. Plus it helps when you worked in a machine shop your whole life.

    awesome, i'm gonna do it myself, since over at crankworks az they completely screwed me on my crankshaft service, pressed the wrong one together and just sent it back. i would never ever do busy with them, ever.

    KTM makes a tool that holds the crank halves in alignment while you press them. Works really well

    The visuals in this video are excellent. However, I don't understand the need to add a musical soundtrack. If I wanted to listen to music, I would go find music videos that I enjoy. Other than that, the refurbishing job on the crank is spot on.

    Good setup! Did you make that truing stand? Where did you get that set of dial indicators? I’m looking to do similar for my builds. Do you ever weld or stake the pin after?

    • @therawlifefamily
      @therawlifefamily 6 місяців тому

      you can make one easily out of a wheel truing stand. The Tusk one has uprights that you have to bolt down so what I did was drill a set of holes so I could move one upright close enough to hold a crank.

    Hi I’m rebuilding a yz250, I replaced the bearings along with the bearing cap/seals and the crank as well. When I went to put the casing back together, it didn’t want to fully seet down. I ended up getting it about a quarter inch away from being fully flush but it won’t go the rest of the way down. When i tried putting a few screws in the block and lightly torquing them down to see if it would help, it caused the crank to freeze up and also made no difference in the gap in the block. Any ideas?

    Same question below, did you build your own truing stand? Can you please share what you use to build this?

    • @therawlifefamily
      @therawlifefamily 6 місяців тому

      Start with a Tusk Wheel Truing stand, drill 2 holes on the base and bolt down one of the uprights in the new holes so that the uprights are close enough together to hold a crank

  • @Jursaw

    So to true it, you just hit it with a brass hammer? You should show how you built that truing stand

    So what keeps the cranks trued after hitting with the hammer? They just stay in place?

    • @therawlifefamily

      The lower rod pin is REALLY tight. Normally you can't get a side to budge by holding it, you have to keep one side against a hard/stable surface.

    your trueing stand idea,,,, if the pins that go through the bearing bores are not slightly larger than the bore the bearings will not be concentric and cause inaccurate reading ,,,, better to use cheap off shore vee blocks
