Adam is my spirit animal! His facial expressions during the closing monologues always crack me up! Great vid Chewy! I would love to see some more offensive butterfly options too, please and thank!
I started BJJ 3 weeks ago, but before my first day, I watched so many of your videos that I actually used some beginner tips on my first rolls and higher belts actually were surprised. You definitely helped me a lot and surely helped a lot so people. Keep doing it!
Finally some tools to deal with the butterfly guard. Being a smaller guy, my longer legged friend loves to sweep me with this. Thanks! Adam is a scene stealer- had me laughing out loud. As always guys- great stuff!
As one who is trying to interject more Butterfly Guard into my game, this is supremely helpful in both recognition of the position of my partner and vice versa when it pertains to passing! Thanks so much Chewie and keep up the solid effort, stepping up of content and the community relations aspect of your channel..it's fantastic!
I've been rolling for a little over a year and I'm always getting caught out by other people in open guard, but when the roles are reversed I always feel vulnerable. I think posture is a big part of that. Thanks for the insight...
you guys make a great video team, i enjoyed the lesson and had a good chuckle at Adam. Please do another one together ... Awesome stuff ..... 2 thumbs up
Awesome! I have someone at my studio that loves to play butterfly and half guard. I always have trouble passing his legs so I can't wait to surprise him with one of these passes
I like the way you explain BJJ, and its details. I learned a lot by viewing and replaying, what I needed the most on sparring sessions, thanks to you. Thank you and greetings from ALBANIA
I learned that headstand pass on like my second day doing bjj and I really liked it but I couldn't remember the step by step of it and none of the upper belts know what I'm talking about when I ask about it, so I haven't been able to actually use it. Now I have a whole video of it! Thanks Chewy!
Love the videos Chewy! I'd like to see a compilation video of good submissions from guard. I feel very comfortable in guard and would like to know more ways to win from the bottom.
I love the chain from the jump pass to the hip-switch once they extend! The opponent extending me out has been my main issue when smashing in butterfly - Gonna use this tomorrow night in nogi!
Really hoping this help me next class. Everyone at my school starts rolling from butterfly guard and so far I’ve been taught literally nothing about it.
YES! rolling tonight I naturally discovered the first half of this, thank you. Instead of jumping over I grabbed chest grips and since I am a big guy I was able to lean back and launch my partner backwards (from me) and start a scramble. This is awesome
3:23 what if he wraps your head with his left arm and gets his right arm underhook breaks your grip. uses his left leg in the middle and rolls you over right side . then keeps his right arm underneath after the roll . and cement mixxers you on to your back then takes full mount from there? then what happens?
I am going to try this out. I was using a head butt rather than face toward the chest and head under the chin. Perhaps I can pull this off regardless of my opponents grip strength.
Hi Chewy, question! I tried this move in class during a live roll and one of the blue belts (I am a white belt) tried pushing my head towards a guillotine immediately when I leaned forward. During a live roll i'm sure it's safe to say you have to be fast with head placement or am I missing something?
I live in a town with a bunch of parades that stop traffic on my way to jiu-jitsu. I was wondering if you have any tips on passing the color guard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Chewy - I finally completed this pass today. It is a game-changer for me. I look forward to killing more butterflies with it. Just wanted to say thank you!
So now I know why the force always wins.. the jedi know jiu-jitsu! Haha chewy and Jedi jurokk 🤙🏻😂. Great tips keep up the great work helps my game every time.
I use this style of passing vs butterfly but sometimes get stuffed when the bottom guy grabs the nearest sleeve to prevent the cross-face. I'm curious as to what you do in this situation.
Aloha Professor, when you have that overlook over both legs and you start the cartwheel over the opposite of your head. Is the other technique to instead to flip legs over their head to get more pressure? Is one technique more advantageous than the other? If so what details could you provide to show pros and cons of both. I just used both the other day and the hop over to side control my partner caught on and started catching the lead leg and shrimping out allowing for guard recovery. The leg flip over the head smashed his arms and allowed me to get to side control. He did block my attempt to side control, so I just went north south.
Great passing options thanks you guys. I was wondering if you have ever talked about belt tying? Mine often comes undone and the variations people have shown me are complicated or look funky. Do you have a go to knot?
Thanks Chewy. I like the hop-over pass from here and notice some guys on bottom will reach over the back and try for a belt grip to counter me hopping over. Any ideas to address this?
I'm a big fan of your beard! Do you ever have issues with its lushness getting snagged when someone is trying to grab your collar or wrap around your neck? That's how I know it's time to shave.
you guys are like penn and teller of bjj. just kidding. but seriously, this is awesome, thank you - i cant wait to try this on the blue belt who has been destroying me in the gym.
I needed this because I just got smashed by someone by someone with a good butterfly guard. Chewy, what’s your favorite sweep from guard? And do you think it’s ok to dominate other white belts when you are a advanced white belt or should you go easy on them?
Awesome variations thanks. Do you think the second pass where you spin them is better vs a bigger opponent? I’m a smaller guy. On the first variation I️ feel I️t would work with someone more your size or suppose your opponent is tired out already. Just wondering. Thanks again!
The only way i can overcome chewy's butterfly guard is a Deadman switch and a hidden Faraday cage suit, hooked up to a taser 😯even then chewy,s jacked up fingers sometimes strangle me unconscious. lol
I like Adam's input he really knows what he is talking about. Looks like it wiil work. I got a guy and thats his go to. He has got great defense but I'm a white belt what the hell would i know about good defensive technique. Lmao
Lmao non blinking Adam steals they show with the creep vibe!
He NAILS the double hand wave at :20. Great vids! Keep up the great work!
Haha, that's all I could think about after watching this. I'm sure he's transmitting some kind of subliminal message with his head-only mime act.
Love the move, can't wait to give it a try tomorrow as I roll with a purple belt that kills me with the butterfly guard!
How did it go?
Did you die?
Purple belt must've killed him for having the audacity to try to pass his guard with chewjitsu
Wow, that was a long time ago. That purple belt is now a black belt and I'm a purple belt.... just in a different state and gym now.
Just finding this channel getting dominated by butterfly and it’s pissing me so I’m gonna try this out!!!
Holy shit Adam looking like a maniac and rocking back and forth had me crying
BowAndArrow5 you and me both! I never know what he's doing until I see the videos.
Adam is my spirit animal! His facial expressions during the closing monologues always crack me up!

Didn't even watch the video, just had a massive staring contest with Adam.
...and he got us all!
Finally some tools to deal with the butterfly guard. Being a smaller guy, my longer legged friend loves to sweep me with this. Thanks! Adam is a scene stealer- had me laughing out loud. As always guys- great stuff!
White belt here. I’ve been having a ton of trouble passing butterfly guard recently. Can’t wait to give these a shot! Thanks, Chewy!
Darren Kosinski hope they help brother!

That grey gi is fantastic
this is perfect, my gym recently had a seminar with oliver taza so everyones using butterfly guard!
Awesome! I have someone at my studio that loves to play butterfly and half guard. I always have trouble passing his legs so I can't wait to surprise him with one of these passes

Thank you and greetings from ALBANIA
I've always had problems passing butterfly guard. Thanks chewy! This helped
Sorry, what'd you say about butterflies? I was distracted by Adam's mesmerising gaze.
Didn't that just give you butterflies though?
I learned that headstand pass on like my second day doing bjj and I really liked it but I couldn't remember the step by step of it and none of the upper belts know what I'm talking about when I ask about it, so I haven't been able to actually use it. Now I have a whole video of it! Thanks Chewy!
Throwback find!!! Thank you for this one brother!
I have been struggling on both sides of butterfly lately. This helped immensely!!
Most passes i see contain a lot of steps and details. This one is simple and easy to teach kids as well!
you and Adam kind of have this dope Penn and Teller vibe going on. love these vids brother.
Hi!
Good informative videos, keep up the good work.
Greetings from a norwegian purple belt.
Oss!
I needed this! A guy I roll with has a killer butterfly guard. Thanks!
ADAM cracks me up love the jazz hands/stares 🤣
Great advice. Shows some details l wasn't aware of.
Thanks! We were going over controlled passes last night, love this.😑
This helps me for what to watch out for. I do a lot of butterfly guard so this is good info.
2:30 that is one impressive hop
Great explanation with the mechanics as well. Definitely will help me out. Thanks!
I just want to say thank you for the channel and also thank you Adam
Excellent fundamental points for working against butterfly. 👍
Love the videos Chewy! I'd like to see a compilation video of good submissions from guard. I feel very comfortable in guard and would like to know more ways to win from the bottom.

Your gi looks comfortable af and I like the color grey on a gi looks dope
Adam, your expressions are awesome!
Thanks for the video I’m a 3 stripe white belt and usually don’t have a clue to pass the butterfly guard
As always great video. Was struggling with this two days ago
Awesome passes. I needed this.
Great info. Thanks for all you do Chew.
I will definitely be drilling this tomorrow morning and showing other people at my gym!
Great technique. As a bigger guy I tend to prefer the pressure game and this will fit nicely!
Always good stuff! Thank you sir
Did the first pass as warmup the other day, didn't even realize it's good for that too.
YES! rolling tonight I naturally discovered the first half of this, thank you. Instead of jumping over I grabbed chest grips and since I am a big guy I was able to lean back and launch my partner backwards (from me) and start a scramble. This is awesome
1:38 what prevents him from grabbing the back of your head rolling back and elevating you?
extremekiwi28 he can't Elevate you because he can't load your weight on top of him because your head is below his you would just base your weight back
Alright thanks for the reply. Going against butterfly guard I'm always worried about getting elevated because im only 130 lbs haha
Great vid as always! Could you please make a video on training with injuries?
3:23 what if he wraps your head with his left arm and gets his right arm underhook breaks your grip. uses his left leg in the middle and rolls you over right side . then keeps his right arm underneath after the roll . and cement mixxers you on to your back then takes full mount from there? then what happens?
2 words... More Adam!
@3:22 IS SOLID GOLD
cool video man ! love that channel
Nice, those are great! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I like the glass-jar pass, it leaves the butterfly guard just flapping around helplessly.
This may be old but as a white belt who just learned the Butterfly this is Awesome
I am going to try this out. I was using a head butt rather than face toward the chest and head under the chin. Perhaps I can pull this off regardless of my opponents grip strength.
Adam

Love You Guys 😃
And we love you Carlos.
I like passes like this. Effective and also look pretty damn ninja.
It looks super cool when you hop over someone with the pass for sure. :)
what do you do when the bottom player pulls the back of ur elbows and their knees
toward him or her every time u post on the hips
Can you do a video on some of the different possibilities of butterfly guard
Everytime Adam looks into the camera, it's like he's staring right into my soul and trying to figure what it is I ate for lunch!
Chewy’s gi dope where can I get one like that?
So now I know why the force always wins.. the jedi know jiu-jitsu! Haha chewy and Jedi jurokk 🤙🏻😂. Great tips keep up the great work helps my game every time.
Can you have Adam show a spirit finger technique
Love this technique I tried it in my fundamentals class. Because I'm a big guy move people use the open butterfly to tie me up not anymore 😈😅
Is it the same if his butterfly hook is engaged and actually hooking your groin?
Adam! -- what a maniac. Chewy..question.. How can I pass the psycho stare guard?
Aren't you expose to kimura lock, when you hands are in this possition?
I think I'm going to have to let someone get me in butterfly guard today just so I can try those passes! ;)
I use this style of passing vs butterfly but sometimes get stuffed when the bottom guy grabs the nearest sleeve to prevent the cross-face. I'm curious as to what you do in this situation.
INTENSE I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is his head down before he passes protecting his throat or does it matter?
Great passing options thanks you guys. I was wondering if you have ever talked about belt tying? Mine often comes undone and the variations people have shown me are complicated or look funky. Do you have a go to knot?
Thanks Chewy. I like the hop-over pass from here and notice some guys on bottom will reach over the back and try for a belt grip to counter me hopping over. Any ideas to address this?

This is a good comment related to the video.
nice trics ! i like a lot everything you show, practical advises. i am a blue belt. but how much do you weigh Chew?
alexandrumacau 210-220. Depending on my food intake.
Is Adam's belt army green or am I going colorblind?
Nice video. Do you have any suggestions for how to complete those passes when your opponent threatens the kimura?
you guys are like penn and teller of bjj. just kidding. but seriously, this is awesome, thank you - i cant wait to try this on the blue belt who has been destroying me in the gym.
I think Chewy is my spirit animal.
4:09 wtf is up with Adam?
haha adam's stage pressence is great XD
Is it too late to enter?
I needed this because I just got smashed by someone by someone with a good butterfly guard. Chewy, what’s your favorite sweep from guard? And do you think it’s ok to dominate other white belts when you are a advanced white belt or should you go easy on them?
Awesome variations thanks. Do you think the second pass where you spin them is better vs a bigger opponent? I’m a smaller guy. On the first variation I️ feel I️t would work with someone more your size or suppose your opponent is tired out already. Just wondering. Thanks again!
What is your preferred take-down during competition?
Nice video, I just realised you have an email list and I recommend everyone to subscribe!
Adam if you concentrate a little harder you might be able to have a heart attack.
😂
I'll try it putting more weight with shoulder, need to do it faster, though, or the butterfly-er will lift me! (happened already)
I can't believe Adam was a brown belt.
I thought he just went straight to black belt.
Most do, common mistake.
Adams making faces throughout the whole video 😂 🤙
The only way i can overcome chewy's butterfly guard is a Deadman switch and a hidden Faraday cage suit, hooked up to a taser 😯even then chewy,s jacked up fingers sometimes strangle me unconscious. lol
Turd Ferguson who are you Mr Ferguson? Who are you?
Chewjitsu just a random dude/fan from Alberta, Canada trying to win something cool from chewjitsu.😆
I like Adam's input he really knows what he is talking about. Looks like it wiil work. I got a guy and thats his go to. He has got great defense but I'm a white belt what the hell would i know about good defensive technique. Lmao
Adam. Adam. Gj
