Interesting thing to note is that the game's Director Minoru Maeda is probably best known for being an animation director on shows like Dragon Ball Z. With only doing part time work for Nintendo. Wonder how he ended up becoming the director for the game.
Thank you for adding that info about the programmers pseudonyms. Great video. This is still one of the most interesting Famicom games for how little we know about this game.
Pretty sad how this didn’t originally release out of Japan. It may have had the same success as TLOZ and become a similarly sized franchise. I assume it was like that for a bit in Japan, showing how they had a TV show and such.
Maybe? I think Nintendo at least expected it to be a continuation of their succes so far. The TV special released the same year, but it was the end of the year while the game released relativly early. So it's unkown if the popularity of the game had any effect
How much color theming is supposed to be going on with the castles' name? Since I know "Ao" means "Blue", "Aka" means "Red", "Momoiro" means "Pink", and "Murasaki" means purple, and they usually have wall panels or ninjas in those colors, right?
Yeah, I noticed that too, and I think it's intentional. However, the mura in Murasame is 村, not 紫, and I don't think there's anything purple in Murasame castle.
Its a fun game but wouldn't it make more sense to send a Ninja instead of a Samurai on an infiltration mission? And even if no loyal Ninja were available why send an Apprentice instead of a fully trained Samurai?
