- Xinjiang, in the far western land of China, hosted one of the world's first and most important trade routes known as the Silk Road, which linked ancient Chinese civilization to the West through the Eurasian continent.
The land of fortune, however, has not always enjoyed tranquility. Thousands of terrorist attacks from 1990 through 2016 killed large numbers of innocent people and hundreds of police officers. Horrific stabbings and bombings rocked the land, leaving its people in shock, grief and panic. The damage was incalculable while stability in the region quickly deteriorated. Authorities have been trying hard to restore peace to this land.
In CGTN's first three documentaries on fighting terrorism in Xinjiang, we presented never-before-seen footage documenting the frightening tragedies in Xinjiang and the resilience of its people.
The fourth exposé "The war in the shadows: Challenges of fighting terrorism in Xinjiang" - the last of the teratology - exposes the extremist thinking and the challenges facing China's efforts to tackle terrorism inside and outside of Xinjiang.
It gives answers to these questions: Why has violent terrorism continued to plague Xinjiang? For those who were once known as "Two-faced people" among the legal and political elites in Xinjiang, how much damage have they done to anti-terrorism efforts in the region? How come poisonous education materials alleging ethnic victimization and "Turkic heroes" have been used for 13 years in primary and middle schools? Why must we stop the invisible hand of foreign advocacy alleging violent terrorism infiltrating our country?
The documentary reveals the methods used by extremist and separatist forces including the "Two-faced people" within the region's high-ranking officials, as well as how music and videos advocating for violent terrorism and inciting ethnic hatred penetrated the region. Plus, it also tells of the very hardship police officers have been mired in for decades.
Over the past four years, violence has largely been contained, giving way to rapid urbanization and economic growth. Safety and tranquility never come easy. But it's only a preliminary victory in China's fight against terrorism.
The film is 55 minutes long and consists of four parts: "The network," "Enemies within," "The textbooks," and "The black hands."

A group of 50 countries, including major Muslim countries; like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, jointly submitted a letter to UN Human Rights Council in defense of China. They credit China with its initiatives to contain terrorism, saying:

China’s effort to nullify religious extremisms and to counter proselytisation of terrorisms through education - teaching these subjects core living skills, winning their minds and hearts, and returning them to the society as law abiding citizens - has proven to be effective and extremely successfully.
There have been no terrorist attacks in Xinjiang since 2017. Xinjiang is now observing the level and scale of socioeconomic development and prosperity unprecedented in history.

I have been to Xinjiang, and Urumqi so this hits home. This is an important story that needs to be widely told to counteract the lies and misinformation being promoted by western governments and media. One of the more astounding facts of this film is how compassionate the Chinese authorities have been with the captured terrorists and two-faced traitors. In many other countries they would have been executed long ago.
There were executions, others were shot in the street.

Not really the "truth". When it comes to the books, they were lying into our faces. First of all the Person on the portrait was Ehmetjan Qasimi, a Uyghur Leader who fought against the KMT and was installed by the Soviet Union in 3 Northern Districts of Xinjiang. When Mao Zedong established the PRC he was supposed to meet with Mao Zedong and talk about the future, but on the way to Beijing his plane crashed and he died. However even Mao Zedong praised him for his contributions during the Chinese Civil War from 1945-1949.

The second lie is when it come to the story of the Uyghur Girls. The story doesn't mention Han. Pause the video the minute they show the page with Uyghur script and look for the words مانچۇ which is in the 3rd line in 29:25,this word means Manchu. The story is about 7 Girls who jump of a cliff because Manchu soldiers surrounded them. Btw China has a similar story calle 狼牙山五壮士, they are literally the same, the only difference ist the attackers are japanese
If you have not seen the third episode of this series, highly recommended. You will see how much pain that the local Xinjiang people suffered from terrorism and how much effort local police team made to stop it. It is important to change the extreme thoughts and cut the roots of terrorism.
By the way, for those who want to watch the third ep, you have to search Tianshan: still standing. UA-cam won't allow you to find it easily..

I am a native of Xinjiang. I have lived in Xinjiang for so many years. I am very touched by a series of issues such as national unity, which are constantly emphasized in the political study at the beginning of school. Since there is our Xinjiang on the map of the country, our Xinjiang and the people of Xinjiang are an inseparable part of China forever. Just google it. There are many people of non Muslim faith that are also arrested for suspected acts/ going to happen acts of terrorism. Singapore take on terrorism is prevention is better than cure. In Malaysia where I live, the now self proclaimed human rights champion, the British herded our rural ethnic Chinese farmers into "new villages" with food strictly rationed, and locked under curfew in compounds behind barbed wire as part of efforts to control an armed insurgency that mainly involved the local ethnic Chinese. There is no doubt human rights were violated by the now self proclaimed righteous British. But fast forward 60 years no one in Malaysia currently complains because the period of terror was brought to an end and peace now reigns.

But since the world is currently ruled by western beliefs and values, Muslims get targeted because of those few extremists that were sponsored/fund by others western nations in order to create divisions in those countries so they don't grow.
