This episode of "China in the Classics" features "The Art of War," the earliest book on military strategy in existence anywhere in the world. The episode cleverly integrates the ideology of the book into stories of its author Sun Wu. It emphasizes his thoughts, such as "the importance of war," "caution in war," and "keeping a country at peace and an army intact."
The book, which consists of approximately 6,000 Chinese characters in 13 chapters, structured classical military theory. Sun Wu pioneered the military philosophy of ancient China and thus enjoys a reputation as the "ancestor of military strategies."
The play is performed by actors including Wu Zhenyu and Wu Yue and is based on the main storyline of Sun Wu's life. Performed on a multi-dimensional immersive stage, the show presents the play through a dialogue between "contemporary reader" Sa Beining and "ancient author" Sun Wu. This dialogue takes place across thousands of years in time and space, with Sun Wu traveling to a modern classroom.

Yes, for the benefits of those who don't understand Mandarin. China should also target the non Chinese speaking in the world to counter western media double standard reporting. I like the Sun Tze art of war, not to fight wars but can be used to prevent unnecessary war created by enemies.

Wars exists because of conflict between humans. And because.. thats human nature. And just because im not firing a bullet or cannon at you doesnt mean im not at war with you.
Sun Tzu’s teachings and ideologies really deserve to be read and researched, as they’re still useful nowadays

Sun tzu was just another scoundrel. Every nation has had Machiavellian thinkers, but to elevate them to civilizational and iconic status just shows the duplicity, immorality, and cravenness of the common people. In Bharata, the equivalent Chanakya is held is low regard.
Bharata has been sacrificing its blood for centuries keeping Islam from engulfing Asia/China, and the Chinese showed their duplicitous and backstabbing nature by attacking this land and supporting such vicious scoundrels as Taliban. And they have been doing this for centuries.
There is something seriously wrong with the Chinese, they lack an ethical core - I say this knowing full well the problems of colonial depictions, and the high struggles of the Real Chinese the Boxers, whom your CCP betrayed.

China is popularizing all important classics through very innovative time-weaving dramatizations, and very emotionally-charged performances. Chinese Renaissance is subtly happening, many more masters will surface to guide us when the time is ripe.

This new style of show in with multi dimension characters and also screen is the first time , I ever seen anything before and if I can give it a 1,000 points , I will gladly do so. This refreshing style to explain Chinese Classics is tops !! Chinese civilization will last forever as it had lasted for the last 5,000 years.
This show MUST be shown and ingrained to all the overseas Chinese who had one way or the other reside in the Western countries.
Its clearly manifested "with so many words" the reason why China had to be prepared even there is peace...

In the past, I read Sun Zi Art manual, but still got some principles and names confused. But this hour drama was really well made and in a vivid way. I can remember the names and principles more easily after watching it twice .

The show did mention.
Art of War is a compilation not only of Sun Zi, but earlier works. It only teaches us the genetal principle, but does not mean when one master it, they will win. There are lots of factors, like the ability of the general too.
Art of War is for peace , not suitable for warmonger that goes around bombing countries for it's selfish interest.
Better with English subtitles, for the world at large to understand.
The United States also needs peace, people need a happy life, the country needs economic development, science and technology, and talents. Without these conditions, how can a war be waged and how can people be protected without war?
The current generation is truly blessed, with access to so much information and knowledge at the tip of their fingers. 20 plus years ago, my only source of reading for the Three Kingdoms was the local bookstore itself. No where else ^_^"

Actually the english subs is a rather miss a lot of allusion or reference, of course in every translation between two languages there would be many problems, but giving eng subs make other people who dont understand chinese get a frame what is being disccused.
Fortunately, I understand chinese so I can fully enjoyed this presentation.😀👍

sun wu judged that fuchai is not a righteous man so refused the offer of the dying old king of wu... true to sun wu judgment, fuchai PUT his personal grudge against gou jian (encounters in their earlier years) above the legacy of the kingdom of wu and PREFERRED to subject gou jian to the lowest of the low humiliation... that to gou jian, he used submitting himself to humiliations, used that chance to stay alive no matter how low the humiliations no matter how long would take so long as he is alive... after ten years of submitting to lowest of the low humiliations, gou jian had his eventual revenge and revived yue...

Can’t believe they had Francis Ng to play Sun Tzu. Was his Mandarin dubbed? Great series nonetheless. I have read the book Sun Tzu Art of War. Great knowledge and I employ it at work wherever applicable.
