I'm from NYC born and bred and I just had scrapple for the first time when I went to Philadelphia. It was delicious. I can't compare it to anything but it has a unique taste and texture. The outside is crunchy but the inside is soft and well seasoned.
I grew up in south central PA on a farm being told scrapple is mush with pig scraps in it. Mush being corn meal and water cooked down until it thickens. Eat fresh and warm with milk, like cream of wheat. Or let it set, slice and fry, like scrapple. It also fun to tell other that scrapple is the way butchers use the unusable bits of pig(the scraps).
Thanks for the history of "Scrapple". I 1st heard of it when a customer asked for it when I worked in a commissary. My reaction was, say what. And the lady just laughed. Realizing i never heard of it or tried it.....😎🙏✌️
scrapple has always been my favorite way to eat meat,,, im from deleware but dont get to eat it that often due to not actually having a stove.. might try air-frying frozen slices if i ever find any. (also it made my day to see the steampunk treehouse. love that thing
""This rings like a Germanic word, but the creation of scrapple is attributed to the Pennsylvania Dutch." Because the PA Dutch ARE German in origin! They got called that because English speakers heard the refer to thenselves as "Deutsch" (the German word for...German) and misheard it as "Dutch." The PA Dutch arent ACTUALLY Dutch, but German!
Buckwheat Scrapple definitely tastes alot better than corn meal scrapple. Its something about the way jt binds everything together that really makes a difference
Real Pa. Dutch scrapple is made with buckwheat flour not corn meal( which is more a southern thing) and organ meat is used sparingly especially the liver.
I'm from Maryland, so whenever Scrabble was. On the table I would try and snatch some. Because I wouldn't have it often. Even as a adult I don't buy it often but when I have it it's delicious. And it's still delicious
Deutsche = German. That is where "Pennsylvania Dutch" name came from. Deutsche is pronounced "doych." Deutsche is the German word for "German." Deutsche Bank is the German bank. You are welcome. steve
been one of my favorite breakfast meats for years since i was a little kid both grand parents and my parents introduced me to it and i loved it since im from the philly PA region
I'm eating Scrapple right now, in Delaware. This video is 7 minutes too long. I generally only eat bacon flavored scrapple. When I eat bacon, it's never crispy and dried out. I have two small blankets that accidentally look like raw scrapple...
The taste is night and day. Chitterlings are so gross. And im an extremely adventurous eater. Scrapple tastes more like a super crispy on the outside, soft on the inside spices sausage. Its something that pairs well with a Maple taste and truly tastes like a Historic America. Its wonderful
I used to love Habbersett scrapple. It now tastes entirely different than it did. The recipe had to have been changed. I sent Happersett an email asking what happened. To my surprise, no reply.
I still love it; had some this morning. Don't think it tastes "entirely different", but can't say if it tastes exactly the same as when I first had it 50 years ago. It has changed ownership a couple times. First to Rapa (a scrapple I find repugnant) and then to Jones Farm (which is pretty close to the Habbersett recipe but not quite). All three are made in the same Rapa plant in Bridgeville Delaware.
Thats a really ironic statement considering Rich people have been eating the Shitty scrap parts of foods and calling them gourmet delicacy pretty much all the way up to the mid to late 80s
Just had it now for the first time, in Maryland (I’m from CT), annnd it’s the most interesting thing I’ve consumed to date lol it’s crispy and mushy. I think I was psyched out, but it tastes a little like pork sausage… 🤷🏻♂️ was worth a try though!
What do you think of scrapple?
I think it should be called crapple
Good
Absolutely LOVE IT!!! Born & raised in Philly, I've been eating it for decades 😋
Scrapple and honey 💪
I'd like to try it, being a fan of corned beef hash as long as I can find a kosher version (I prefer beef or chicken substitutes rather than fruit).

Hence the need to cook it just right! Finally have it down to an art after 50 years of eating and learning!
I’m from Pennsylvania and I LOVE Scrapple!!! 😋 🐽

That’s what it is lol… it’s the scraps of the pig. But it’s freaking delicious

And even if they were Dutch, Dutch is also a Germanic language, so that sentence just didn't make sense in any context.
They actually explained it in the video
She literally explains that in the video 🤯🤯🤯watch the video before you complain 😊😊😊
I hate that we’re just known for cheesesteaks🥺
But cheesecake is God

Scrapple with maple syrup is a must. From a Philadelphia German.
I lived in Trenton NJ, outside of Philadelphia. I never heard of Scrapple till I moved there. My girlfriend considered it Fun to eat scrapple.

That makes the MASSIVE difference between a Good well sliced piece and a crumbly hard to slice piece. The flavor makes a big difference too
You can not avoid this item. So attractive and delicious. Kudos to you. Made it perfectly. 👍👌💗

The name Panhas comes from the lower rhine region of germany close to the dutch border. Where i come from it usually includes pigs blood. Delicious.
I haven't eaten blood sausage in so long
Scrapple is the absolute food of the Gods!!!!!

Corn Meal and Hog Fat. " Scrapple, Made from the best stuff on Earth "

It’s basically the same exact same thing as liver mush or liver pudding in NC. In Greensboro NC they still call it scrapple
Not the same but similar.

Where I come from, it sounds similar to braun.
I have eaten scrapple.
Sounds jus as nasty as chitterlings..and u never hafta guess what THEY are, either

Hmm it's a combination between meat loaf, Braun swagger, Spam, hog head cheese & sausage 🤷 All things I don't like 🤢
add clips from movies doesn't make fun.
I’ve never try d it but am so tempted to buy a loaf to try it. It sounds good to me.
It’s delicious.
I thank my relatives for the economic advantage that prevented me from ever being introduced to scrapple.
😂
