Thanks for sharing! It finally support in Pro Tools after I switch to Reaper hahahha.......One question: Why Pan mode is up to right and down to left? It is opposite to the automation line in most DAW. But anyway, looking foward to the fader!
Historically, I don’t know why it is set that way. One thing I like about Fader and pan in Pro Tools is that in Console 1 mode, writing automation of stereo tracks is super easy!
I see you also have the Rupert Neve Centerpiece, nice! Do you use that for transport control via HUI alongside the Softube HUI? Is it possible to daisy chain the Rupert Neve via one of the USB C ports on the back of the Softube MK3 Fader or would they need to connect to 2 separate USB C ports on computer? Thanks for your time!
Well, here is an honest answer. I love the 5060. I use it as the center of everything, and the summing combined with Console 1 is amazing - especially with Fader. But when it comes to transport, I've hated every product I've used from Streamdeck to the 5060 to Faderport to x-touch and more...... I just don't think separate transport works great for me when I'm able to move so quickly around a session in any DAW with my QWERTY keyboard. But as to your other point, you would need a separate port on your computer since Fader will need to use the 2 ports (1 for power and 1 for connectivity to the CPU)
In HUI? No. Maybe something else in the future? The reason I say no is that groups of 8 tracks is a limitation of HUI control. This is similar to the same way EUCON controllers work. However, this is what I love about this product compared to a EUCON controller. We have the ability to flip into Console 1 mode to have the 10 track control when it is needed for mix tasks. So you get the best of both worlds. Pro Tools DAW control, but with the flexibility and speed of a modern 10 fader workflow when it is needed.
@@ToddUrban thanks for the reply. I ordered 4 of them the creat a full console. What about a transport / master section? I wonder if they will introduce one?
Hello Todd! I got today my Fader MkIII, now working together with my Channel MKIII but I'm not able to have the same workflow as you have in this video, still not matching colors on less or screen displays. I have the latest version of the firmware, not sure what I'm missing. Thanks for your time.
Remember that colors will only show in Console 1 mode. That’s a limitation of Pro Tools. When in HUI, you can control DAW faders, pan, and sends. And will this product you will get longer names, unlike a product like the UF8. But you won’t see the colors, as HUI doesn’t handle that.
@@ToddUrban Thanks Todd. Is this for Channel and Fader? I'm comparing with this video where you are using ProTools HUI for Fader and Channel has the colors in each lead working
@@Son-pd4cm HUI is only for Fader. So on Fader, you have 2 modes. In HUI, you will get the control, but not the colors. In C1 mode on Fader, you will see all the colors and get control of plug-in output volume and pan output. Channel doesn't have a HUI mode. It is always in Console 1 mode, even when Fader is in HUI mode.
One question remains: Does this mean that when you select a track in Pro Tools, it will select that track on the console 1? (Even if you dont have the console 1 fader) I reeeaaallly need this in order to use my console 1 consistently with Pro Tools.
I dont see how this is the “best” controller for Pro Tools. HUI cannot touch Eucon, an Avid dock and S1 will enable much tighter integration without so much parameter switching. For any other DAW perhaps it could have tight integration, but HUI within Pro Tools is decades old at this point and frankly just places this unit in the same bucket as countless other controllers that cannot integrate with PT via Eucon (Avid’s doing of course). I don’t see how you can tout this as the best controller for Pro Tools as a Pro Tools user. Maybe the best non Eucon controller for PT? Would be a matter of opinion of course. Nice walkthrough though.
I appreciate your comment and asking about this. Eucon has the most direct control due to the continued support by Avid of the Euphonix control protocol. However, it keeps you locked within one mode. The flexibility of having two different modes to me is a huge advantage since it opens up a lot of additional options that Eucon doesn’t offer since it is basically just a DAW controller. Plus the stability of these two modes is rock solid. But that’s also my opinion. I realize this isn’t an objective statement.
These 2 units (fader and console) are killer together, no doubt. But so would the SSL UC1 and UF8. If you opt to spend more cash you can add the UF1 with dedicated transport, toggle and assignable fader. All in is $2700 new however. SSL also has the 360 integration software which pushes this further for “total” control. The Avid dock and S1 can carry an inexpensive tablet each and allow for much more customization and hands on control. No need to switch modes back and forth which to my feable mind feels like switching off one side of my brain and fumbling around to turn on the other. Avid purposefully keeps Eucon to themselves unfortunately. The only other DAW that I have heard of that integrates nicely with this protocol is Logic. For any other DAW I think there is a wide array of excellent options. For PT however, Eucon dedicated surface is hard to beat. BTW I have seen S3’s going for $3k new in box, and as low as $1500 used in excellent condition.
Does this also control MIDI CC? The placement of the solo and mute buttons interferes with the fader...doesn't allow you to run your finger across through left and right to mute or solo a bunch. I have and I am selling the U series by SSL...at least Console one managed to get full pro tools names...SSL limits you to 4 characters only...not sure why, but I am moving to Eucon.
At this point, it isn’t midi CC assignable, but I know many people have requested it for an update, so let’s see…. Regarding track names, yeah, it is way better than generic HUI since you get many more characters.
Hi Todd I got the fader mk3 today its super I connected the fader to the console mk 3. In the softube window I activated cubase control in settings Do I still need to put the plugin for console mk3 on each slot in the DAW? Gr.Nes
No plug-in is needed with the new DAW control. However, realize it is in beta. So my personal opinion is to have fun working with it and experiencing what is coming. But a lot is still being tweaked with that control. So if you are working on a big project that you want to be 100% confident is working perfectly, the VST3 control might be best until the public release.
Well, with favorites mode, you can collapse your faders to show only the tracks you want to see. But you cannot rearrange tracks separately from the order in pro tools. You will always follow the DAW order. But you can always rearrange the DAW tracks and Console 1 will follow
Pro Tools is arranged for its control to be in banks of 8 faders. This is why all the Avid products are all in 8s. So while in Console 1 mode you do get the extended control, HUI mode will limit you to what Pro Tools allows. In other DAWs, all 10 faders are always in use.
As of now, you have 8 of the 10 faders available in HUI. However in Console 1 mode, you have all 10 available for working in that workflow or mixing with plugins from Channel.
Correct. In Pro Tools, Channel will control via Console 1 mode, which controls the plug-in (which makes sense since the majority of the product controls the processing). Fader is what will control DAW faders, pan, and sends when in PT HUI mode.
Your Console 1 Channel will still work perfectly. As for Fader, there have been many improvements, but if you want to control DAW faders, that is going to need HUI, which requires the new Fader Mk III unit to get it up and running. HUI integration is a hardware required feature for two reasons. The first is that the new units have a powerful internal processor and a MIDI jack that can communicate with HUI and 8 faders, while the older units were dedicated to communication to the OSD. But the second reason is that the screens are necessary to locate where you are and what you are controlling.(EDITED ON Sept 19 2024 for clarity)
