The most common cord is made of twisted three-ply cotton. There are many different kinds of materials used in macrame like... cotton, linen, hemp, jute, and yarn. To me it looks like a blend of cotton and possibly something else. I myself prefer and have had the best luck with cotton cord. Good luck ☺

Absolutely! Use longer pieces of cord and just start again with another crystal after tying off the one above it.
