When a young female doctor notices an unnatural amount of comas occurring in her hospital she uncovers a horrible conspiracy.

I first watched it on TNT in 2019 when i was in my final year of high school and i was blown away. Didn't know that the best hospital conspiracy thriller was made in the late 70's.True Classic!!
So far, the best hospital thriller ever made! A true classic, produced in 1977, the same year I was born.
I'd go even further and say just about the best conspiracy thriller ever made. Never tire of it, wish there were still movies like this being made for theatrical release
Good book too.
Excellent book and movie. Read the book some 40 years ago and saw the movie just after. I was not disappointed by either.👍🏼
Also has a few people who weren't "big stars" at the time: Ed Harris, Tom Selleck, Lois Chiles.
I'm probably still alive today because of the healthy respect for how deadly a hospital can be that "Coma" instilled in me years ago. I'm 64 now and I still have no inkling that I will ever check myself into a hospital for even the most minor surgery that would require I be "put under".
Also I've known too many people who caught the flesh eating bacteria Mersa from getting surgery in a hospital.
Thanks to Michael Crichton for saving who knows how many lives with this movie.
The American medical system is only about making money and has no interest in health except if it can make money making people healthy, which is rare indeed.
@@ladamyre1 I’m 61 & agree with U wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, I had too many hospital trips as a kid. I’m paying the heavy price now.
Many Blessings 🙏🇺🇸
I remember watching this trailer as a kid. That last part with the bodies freaked me out.
I came here to say the same thing!
Exactly! As a kid in those years, I felt the same!
Understand why…they are bathed in a purple light!
I really admired the talent of Mr. Crichton possessed.
Rest in Peace, Michael!
I caught this movie on TCM and I am so glad I did, it was a great movie!!
Genevieve Bujold is amazing here!!! Next to her incredible perfomance in "Anne of the thousand days". A wonderful actress and a great personality!!!!
She was offered the role of captain of Star Trek Voyager, but walked off the set and quit a few days into shooting the pilot, not sure why.
@@alcahallic4526she is too classy for that...
Hat's off to the entire cast and crew, and production and direction teams of this absolutely superb movie.. one can watch it several times and never tire..even years later...it holds it's own against the new releases.. thanks for sharing.. !!
I agree that Coma is an "absolutely superb movie". But I could not watch it a second time. The trill's gone.
@@thomasgarbe8354 I've watched 'Coma' several times. I understand your point, but I always appreciate the way Crichton filmed it (its feeling of authenticity and story flow), Goldsmith scored it and the cast performed it. Re-watches are more about wallowing in an older style of film making.
Great film to watch before surgery
Lmao!
Great movie. The claustrophobia in the final location and the constant threat kept me on edge of my seat.
I was a surgical techniition when this came out. It is extremely accurate
what do you mean by that? This actually happens?
This movie creeped me out as a kid!
Jack Mehoff -Me too, a lot of those late 70’s Sci-Fi/Horror films did, & I loved it!
Me also! But love it
Dag, you that old😂😁🤣
kids and adults alike
Golden Days of filmmaking...
A Brilliant and highly under-rated movie. The book is also excellent, I have it on audio and listen to it again and again...!
An underrated movie. In the style of an Alfred Hitchcock thriller !
@Petertronic
Huh? How tf is this movie "underrated"..? It was loved by everybody that saw it ESPECIALLY the critics(almost 100% of them).
Audiences raved about it all across the country. AND It earned over 12 TIMES its investment.
That's underrated to you??
@@TheQ-Continuum "Underrated movie" in so far as nobody seems to refer to it, e.g. in discussions about organ transplantation.
When I was a kid a family member worked at a hospital and I was able to see various wards, operating and recovery rooms, along with some of the utility spaces. When I saw this movie on TV, Having been all through a hospital, and the movie showing things so authentically, just made it more scary. Recently saw this movie for free online and it was better than I remembered, and still scary. As an adult I sometimes do work at hospitals and have seen a cadaver lab, its just like in the movie, love the authenticity.
the way she says “somebbooddys putting pppeeeople into commas” in that french accent gets me every time 😂
A classic film, still has the same effect on me.
Me too, I was on a late train last night and it reminded me of this movie.
Incredible, underrated film. Genevieve Bujold is a seriously underused and underappreciated actor and Jerry Goldsmith's score perfectly conveys the cold horror of Crichton's script and direction. Effective trailer but it gives WAY too much away.
This movie is definitely an all-time favorite of mine. Really creepy and well-done!
Much better than the book. And I can very rarely say that with such conviction.
the book is really good too
volunteered! Searched and searched to find this . Now I want to see the whole movie again. Way back I read the book.
I just half completed the book. It keep on increasing my interest
This story scared the hell out of me when my mother took me as a child to the theatre. I've always remembered the appalling horror of those poor helpless patients hanging in limbo between life and death as their organs were AUCTIONED away. Talk about pure evil, if this doesn't terrify your very soul nothing will. Crichton has a twisted mind and crooked pen lol to dream up this (untrue) tale. Deep down I've been waiting in terror for the day this story breaks in the news. I know it's likely already plausible if not common practice some places. Something to think about. Fantastic writing directing and acting. Bujold is brilliant as always and gives credibility to the horrifying role for sure.
I concur
_"Crichton has a twisted mind and crooked pen lol to dream up this (untrue) tale."_
All Crichton did was write a novel and make a movie out of it, creating a topic of discussion about something that could be possible.
What would be twisted is to take the idea and make it real. Example: the Chinese Communist Party harvesting and selling human organs from persecuted Falun Gong practitioners.
I agree. Saw on TV it as a child, scared the hell out of me.
It still gives me chills just watching the trailer
Pradeep Balakrishnan -History Channel remade it as a mini-series in 2012 I believe...
I watched this reluctantly, but I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed this.
OMG...its such a breathtaking experience... watching dis movie... every second i used to bite my nails to know vat wud happen next...awesome direction n my god d actors seems as though they r real doctors... 10 / 10 marks
I just watched. Genevieve and Michael gave great performances.
Good movie... I try to watch it every time it airs on tv.
Great movie.. I watched it the night before having surgery lol..after I received pre op meds I kept saying don't put me in OR 8..the nurses had to let me know I was going to OR 10..
Absolutely brilliant Lucy!
Lol, I made the same or similar joke last year being wheeled into surgery. Was watching the OR numbers as we went and it ended up being 9 (was relieved when we passed 8) and said to the doc "At least it's not OR 8." He said 'what do you mean?" I said "didnt you ever see 'Coma'"? He chuckled, either being polite or got the reference, not sure.
just watched this was a fantastic thriller.
this movie ain't no science fiction. It's a story out of real life.
Whose life?
They usually are. Hidden in plain sight.
I totally agree with along with other movies and music
Duh, its happening in China right now.
@@spaceninja7687 Here in the U.S. too. Nurses have under cover video of the covid patients being killed on ventilators.
I'm just reading the book 📖..its great!
Saw this movie when it came out long ago. The sad thing is we're already there. It's real now.
Great score....and no music for the first 45 minutes of the film! Jerry Goldsmith RIP
A Classic, Good Movie !👍
Couldn't sleep for a night or two after watching this, especially corpse suspended by ceiling was quite a nightmare.😭
I've always wondered, locking him in the freezer would leave her some pretty good evidence come morning..and be some fantastic justice, imagine what it's like for the people in real life that have to handle our dead bodies, they're heroes in a way
I had a dream not long ago that i was laying in my bed screaming but no one could hear me. I tried so hard to move but i couldnt. I was trapped in my body. I had to come watch this trailer. Time is running out for People who commit this kind of torture. I can feel it coming💪🌈
Cinematography in this film is quite interesting and futuristic for that period in the late 1970's through natural, bokeh and fluorescent lighting that contrast with moody diffused lighting in a tertiary colour palette of blue-green, red-blue, yellow-orange as mystery deepens and characters anxiety is explored in a modern maze-like office skyscraper trappings and futuristic buildings in significant low diffused lighting to express feelings of claustrophobia and verge of losing consciousness.
That music score sounds like the one in "Logan's Run" (1976) composed by the same composer of this movie, Jerry Goldsmith.
Excellent movie. Love it. Saw this many years ago. It's worth checking out.
Yep enjoyed this movie immensely please don't ever remake it's fine the way it is!!!
They probably will as they do with all films. Great movie. Older films always have so much substance than newer films
@@macabree5856 I was born about seven years after it came out so it wasn't my time but hey I enjoyed it nonetheless!!!
@@adamquiles2468 Wasn't near my time either. In my early thirties now
I saw this when it was released. Scary!!!
Tim McIntire did a fab job with the voiceover for this classic trailer.
Still one of the best thrillers!
Suspension galore - the scene where
Susan is having a nervous breakdown by her car and is followed to the subway by this creepy guy who turns out to be a killer.
Not to mention the eerie soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith.
I'm not very PC, but I'm glad this trailer featured Genevieve Bujold as the top bill. She is very obviously the lead character in this film. All other promotional I've seen so far, puts Michael Douglas up on top and this includes IMDB. He plays a supporting role, but he's not the lead as most of this film's promotion leads you to believe.
I still love this film.
Can't get it anywhere.
I think it's in HBO Max now
Filme muito bom.Gostaria tanto de assisti-lo novamente.
Terrifying film from the brilliant mind of Michael Crichton who wrote The Andromeda Strain & Jurassic Park.
And here we are in 2022 fiction has become reality
Great old movie!
Masterpiece
Kinda fitting today
how?
.. this just happened to a Kentucky man. He woke up while they were assessing his organs to be 'donated' ... Hospital just wrapped him back up & said 'he wasn't ready yet' & sent him home!? ... TRUST NO SYSTEM!!! Take preventative measures to care for yourself. & Don't be an organ donor, that's an easier, brighter green light.
I had this on VHS for a long time
i have a lot of films on vhs, I don't know what the hell to do with them, they take up a lot of room
@@wheelmanstan keep them nothing wrong with that
Is something similar happening with the Pandemic?
How can a fighting fit person die in a few days after being admitted to the hospital?
That’s a creepy but good point!!
you are right, i was offered a job to work in the covid lab, im not trained to be there properly, still I managed to complete the MLA, medical laboratory assistant role, they tried to get me sick. It was a weird Laboratory in Guildford in England, UK I was on nightshift , my colleagues seemed nice people but I sensed something strange, a week before I had to leave cos i found another job i got covid as one of my colleagues went to the lab to spread the disesase or whatever it was to make me sick, i had a photo taken of me for my new job and I did not look like myself at all. I wanted to use a different photo that I took and it was not accepted so I had to take a photo of what I actually looked like at the time, I looked sick. When I recovered, the security staff at the airport kept looking at me strangely. There is something very wrong in this place
A deadly virus, duh.
Good film good suspence
Bujold is terrific 👍 this film is tense
Great thriller! The cast is amazing!
A classic!!!!!!!!!!!
Crazy and scary wow
If you came from 2020/21, you'll find this movie very, very interesting
The sequel: 'Vaccine Coma'.
@@AnxietyMentor You bet.
This is what's happening now
REALITY is much more gruesome than this movie.
This background music is amazing, does anyone know what it is called.
It's all from the score Jerry Goldsmith composed for the movie itself.
Another great documentary
If only this were fiction
"Somebody's putting people into COMAS!"
I love the way he pronounces Genevieve
I was 6 when this came out and this ad scared the hell out of me at the time
Do not be an organ donor. This is real -- no scruples!
😎😎😎 Big business today 2023
This isn't exactly the trailer I remember from before the film's theatrical release - that one , which I saw, had Elizabeth Ashley's famous "There is no staff" delivery; is this for the DVD release maybe, anyone know for certain?
For the first time I had watched it and could not believe how scared I am now thinking I would neve want to be in as a patient anymore
شاهدته في سنوات الطفولة ولحسن الحظ الرقابة التلفزيونية وقتها كانت تقطع مشاهد العري وللاسف لا تزال تجارة الأعضاء البشرية مستمرة وتحت رعاية الدول الكبرى
Even better than Visiting Hours!
Does anyone know when was it playing on TCM in the last few months?
I remember this way cool
Covid(2019) ..."...someone's getting away w murder."
Does anyone see the parallels to the reality of today?
no
Der Film war so Hammer gewesen. Würde ihn gerne noch einmal sehen.
I remember this movie! I thought the title was OR something......thankyou!
Love the theatrical trailer 😍
A film I saw at the cinema with important young actors (who have grown up) and actors who had made the history of American Western cinema !! I liked it totally is in a scene of the film we see a young Harris (the future Pollock) who actually manages as a veteran "Deep coma" the best Forever ❤
If I were to construct a list of Movies That Would've Been Rated PG-13, this would definitely be one of them.
freakin amazing movie
Now THAT'S how to make a trailer!
COVID paid $34k per patient, shudder to think what if, hmm........
and I already seen the movie from this trailer thank you
I've only seen Michael Douglas in Fatal Attraction but this looks good and interesting.
check out a little known film he did called disclosure, not fatal attraction level award-winning film, but interesting
Hello all. Should I read the book first or watch this movie?
Brillant Thriller 👍
Ein super film, den ich gerne noch mal sehen möchte
At the risk of sounding gross, but does anyone remember a Coma trailer that showed some kind of guts being placed on conveyor belt? I was 11 when this came out and swore I caught something like that with my young eyes and being pretty shocked.
I do that was from a redo of coma that Ridley Scott did it was on a&e in 2012
Tom selleck
More like "TOM SELLECK?!!!"
Directed by some guy named Michael Crichton who was too nervous to be a doctor so he directed movies and wrote instead.
Genevieve took a shower in this movie and you could see through the shower door. It was my first glance of nip as a youngster.
Michael took a shower in this movie and you could see through the shower door. It was my first glance of mr. P as a youngster.
What a creep.
LOL! $42500...That doesn't even cover a sprained ankle nowadays!
lol 😂
Well, quite easier today, they now have a huge DNA-Database to choose out, whenever something is needed.
Or did you never go for a ancestry-, a Coro.a-, Certificate-Test, or even a ordinary blood-Test?
So good 👍
Workers of the Boston Memorial Hospital after this movie was released: 💀💀💀
The vegetable people (Coma) reveal in the movie gave me sleepless nights when I was a kid
Not so sci-fi any longer...
