  • For my Presets visit: johnnathancord... Ok, so since I got to the age of 32 without ever playing an SG of any kind, not a Gibson, not an Epiphone, not a Tokai, I figured I'd try to play some Jazz on this Tokai. Does it work? Trying to play When you Wish Upon a Star.
    Thanks to Mike at Rose Morris for letting me check out this Tokai USG124. This is a japanese made guitar, with hardcase, bone nut, vintage specs, (Mike also offered a discount code to viewers of this channel: "JOHNSOLDOUT" for 10% off). Here's me playing it for the first time, and over the next few weeks I should hopefully be able to show you some other cool Tokai guitars.

    I've decided to make it possible to grab both my Helix/HX Stomp bundles (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!

    Traded my SG a few years back and miss it a lot. It’s one of the few guitars that can literally play any style and do it justice

      I've always said that you could take a Telecaster and a Les Paul to any job and cover all the bases. I've always said the same about a Stratocaster and an SG Standard.

    The SG was originally called the Les Paul,. in that it was intended to be a replacement for the guitar we know as the Les Paul. It was used by Les Paul himself, therefore it was intended to be used for jazz, as evidenced in this video. Great playing!

    You can play jazz with anything I think. It's the touch and the tone settings on the amp/pedals/guitar. If you are not going for a particular sound that is.

      Might it be alittle rougher with single coil instruments like telecasters and stratocasters? The natural fuzz might interfere with the clarity one would need for jazz as usually conceived.
      I'm probably wrong.

    • @topografer
      @topografer Рік тому +2

      @@studogable Of course it comes down to how you want to sound but to sound jazzy can be achieved even with a telecaster. I mean I really like this bright jazzy tone the telecaster makes, especially if we're talking about an ash body maple neck one which sounds clearer compared to alder + r/w

    This guitar is so misunderstood. Even myself have spent this very day realizing it’s beauty and versatility. Thus why I looked up this video.
    Les Paul’s bastard child, unwanted and adopted by the hard rock genre. Fierce around the edges but warm and beautiful on the inside.

    I used to have an SG years back (2013) and I loved it for everything but clean neck tones. It always sounded too thin no matter what I tried and it frustrated me. I've been toying with the idea of grabbing another and just raising the neck pup but I feel I'd be disappointed. Favorite guitar style after a 335 but I just don't remember it being round and warm enough in person. Maybe I'm crazy

      Throw on some Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Ryo Fukui, Ahmad Jamal, Wes Montgomery, some Herbie Hancock and dig in! Don’t forget Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose from the grave. He is living and wants a relationship with you, just invite him into your heart. Confess that you truly believe and repent of your sins, ask for forgiveness! Living for and through Christ will change your life forever!… God wants a relationship with his children (you) he sacrificed his only begotten son so we can be with him once again (man’s sin separated us from him)! Love from a brother in Christ… May God be at work in you, glory to him forever and ever… Jesus is the King of Kings and truly the Lord of Lords… may Gods spirit dwell inside of you! I love you and more importantly God loves and wants you! Amen!

    I've been learning Joe Pass almost exclusively on an Epiphone Muse SG. I'm not putting heavy strings on it beause I switch from metal / rock too often to dedicate those kind of strings. What are your knob settings for this? If my tone is rolled off too much, it's just bass wtih no high end at all. I've been using low tone knob settings with both pickups and the bridge pickup turned down lower than the neck.
