KTM 690 ENDURO - SIMPSON DESERT ADVENTURE - Part 2

- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- Welcome to another Adventure series. This one being an unsupported crossing of the Simpson Desert on my KTM 690 Enduro R.
I join 4 of my mates, Brendon, Mark, Tom and Brendan in Melbourne where the journey begins. Like most adventures it's full of the usual excitement and drama.
Remember this is just a amatuer video of a 5 guys on a adventure. I'm still learning and made some mistakes along the way with both camera work and commentary. For that I do apologise however I've tried to capture the spirit, drama and fun of the trip.
Big thanks to Brendon, Mark, Tom and Brendan for making the trip enjoyable and a memory forever. I hope everyone including you viewers enjoy it and it gives you the motivation to get out there and see our beautiful country.
Ride safe, be safe and see you on the trails.
Thanks heaps, Craig.
You don’t have to apologise for anything. You and Brendon are doing a great job with this epic video. No boring road scenes, the right amount of talking and explaining, captions at the right time, useful details re fuel/food and mechanical gremlins and best of all, no gratuitous swearing and loudness that is so common to many ADV Vloggers. You also come across as genuinely friendly and unegotistical. You will refine your videos as time goes on but the format is excellent and is a good reflection of who you are-keep it that way.
Thanks heaps DKW125. I really want to bring a detailed video to viewers. Anyone thinking of going that way can watch and get some info or anyone that just wants to watch not get too bored. Such a amazing outback we have.
I really appreciate your comments mate, cheers.
Many years ago I worked in motorcycles shop that sold DKW 125 is yours old?
Yes I did own a DKW125 in the late 70’s. Leading link forks and the great Sachs 125 motor that saw service in many bikes including the Dalesman and Monarch bikes. My first European thoroughbred bike.
I installed that optus service. its on the aircraft hanger roof.
That's cool Tex. Glad there is optus and telstra there now
Loving your videos mate
love that you include some of the history of the places in the video and the calming nature of the video
Cheers
Jack.
Hi Jack, glad you like the history and info as I sometimes feel viewers might not want to see that.
Hey I like it when its in other videos.
Good on you mate, cheers
Great footage, very well made video. Thank you for taking the time to edit and upload this 👌 Thanks for sharing
No probs Danny mate. Glad you liked it.
Fantastic vid. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to part 3
Thanks Happy As Moto, next episode is the desert propper.
I like your vids, right amount of explaining and sharing your thoughts. Please keep them coming...🙋🏻♂️
Glad you like them!
I love the track commentary. As someone who wants to ride these tracks the vision and commentary is priceless and gives me confidence to do it myself.
Cheers Dan. That's exactly what I want. To give someone the info and confidence to get out there. Cheers mate and ride safe.
Watched this one on the big TV... loved it and you really give great information out to everyone! Cheers... Mark
Hey Mark, cheers mate. I may have taken some inspiration from some of your videos. Did you see the pic with your sticker?
Stay tuned for the next episode mate, we enter the Simpson and that dreaded sand...
just cant get enough of the outback love it thanks for the video its amazing
It's so good out there Glenn. Cheers mate
Thanks for sharing, you do an awesome job of it. 👍🏻
Thanks BootsMcGavin
This is making me want to do this big time!
If you can mate, do it. It's the best. Cheers
Aussie out back is amazing. Very much enjoying your video skills and your stories on this adventure. Great work Craig! Looking forward to Part 3 👍😁
Cheers Rob, part 3 coming soon mate.
Great video. Really enjoying coming along with you wish I was actually riding my bike there with you. Thanks from Alberta, Canada
Hey Patrick, glad you enjoyed it mate. I guess our red outback is very different to your lush green and snow white outback. Now there's somewhere I would love to ride.
Cheers from Sydney, Australia mate
Thanks for another sick vid. Brings back good memories. 👍
Hey Adam, glad you liked it mate and it brought some memories back. Cheers
Yes I DID enjoy that. And it doesn’t hurt that your editing is way above average, your content is superb, and narration engaging.
Bring on part 3.
Thank Honda NC750X. Glad you are enjoying it mate, part 3 not far away.
One of the best adventure channels on UA-cam. You should have way more Subs. From a fellow Sydneysider keep up the great work, really enjoying your content. Something for me to aim for sometime getting across this great country on My bike.
Cheers MAD Free Speak, stoked you like them. Hopefully sometime soon you can get out there too. Thanks again.
Really enjoyed this! Moving on to the next. I’ve got to ride inOz one day! Top of my bucket list. Thanks for all the effort you went to, to make this.
Hey Bob, hopefully one day you can. This country has a lot to offer.
Thanks mate and have a good one.
Wow great filming fantastic trip no deserts back here in the uk
But you have Europe on your doorstep.
Thanks for the comment Mark. Ride safe mate and have a good one.
Awesome video, and as others had said, just the right amount of talking to riding....and no stupid hair metal over dub over the whole thing.
Cheers William, glad you are enjoying the videos mate. Makes doing them all worth it.
Enjoying watching your videos, my question is, do you find the fandango tank bag gets in your way or is it just the right size. Was looking at getting the Diablo but if the fandango doesn’t take up too much room I will probably go for that one. Keep the videos coming and ride safe 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey Stephen, cheers for the comments mate.
The Fandango has never gotten in my way. Even when Im leaning right forward. It's the right size for me and the gear i carry. I have mate who has the Diablo and it would be too small for me.
Top ride the KTM seems to swallow up the roads nicely, enjoyed the running commentary you made me feel as though l was the rider, l was even judging the rev's and gear changes, sounds so much like my old bike, heading for the next episode, thanks and safe riding
Thanks Fishpest, Im stoked you are enjoying it. Hopefully you enjoy the next episode in the Simpson. its a bit long but i really want to show everyone how hard and amazing the Simpson is.
I’m watching them in the wrong order for some reason.
Doesn’t matter, all great content. Thanks 🙏
hahah I appreciate you are just watching mate. Cheers
I did the William Creek flight over Lake Eyre in 2016' it was well worth the money.
Now that would have been awesome...
Wow! awesome footage again. Tks for sharing this adventure with me (us).
Say tks to Nerb for his footage as well.
Greetings from Bavaria
Marc
Hi Marc, thanks for the comment mate. Glad our adventure is bringing some interest in Bavaria.
Definitely will pass on the message to Nerb.
Cheer mate and have a good one.
Thoroughly enjoying this series. I'm coming over from England in mid February and plan to rent a bike (probably BMW G310GS) in Melbourne and ride it up to the Flinders Ranges, maybe Lake Eyre and Oodnadatta if conditions are good. Any advice you can pass on would be very welcome.
Hey Keith, thanks for the comments mate. Appreciate the support.
The 310 is a very capable little bike mate. You've named some pretty awesome places to ride. The 310 will do it easily on those roads / tracks as long as you take it easy and don't push it too hard. Certainly get into the Flinders. you could spend 3 or 4 days in there exploring.
Craig,
Good content, good edit, good commentary and i must say i was pretty chuffed to see the notification for part 2 pop up today.
Top effort and cant wait to see the remainder of journey.
Lucky you didn't lose the GoPro and caught it in time, i was watching along and taking in the scenery you were shooting, only to look down at your bars and for a second thought "is that an LED light on an odd angle".
You guys ever thought of doing the Canning Stock route?
Hey Dirt Bike Antics, glad you are enjoying the series mate as we head to the Simpson Desert.
I was super lucky to see it wobble.
I am in the early stages of planning the CSR now with my cousins. A journey from West to East taking in CSR, Tanami and the Simpson
32:20 I think of a day when you will have an Electric Bike and 4mx4M solar blanket
Of course, this means no charging while riding, so you take longer and probably carry extra weight in food :)
I think you are right Hugh, that day isn't too far away I think.
Cheers mate
Wow what difference when you changed cameras at 36:23 . And i would agree the road from mt dare towards dalhousie springs was the rough and rocky,
i thought i was going to get a puncture for sure. Another good episode sir , cheers 4 sharing.
Cheers Tex. I'm already looking at upgrading the old camera. I was thinking the same thing mate re the video quality.
Really enjoying your adventure Craig, excellent footage and commentary, don’t eat too many flies and your east to west trip sounds great. Looking for to part 3 buddy 😃👍
Thanks motogspot. Appreciate the comments mate. Those flies are filling too.
That west to east will be epic.
Another top video Shadower75, looks like a mission trip so far. Looking forward to more. P.s super jealous of your bike!
Thanks KTM73, next one is the desert mate. Hopefully it just as good.
As you know the 690 is a beast. I do love my setup.
Great ride that is some out in the middle of no where riding . Not a tree one .There ain't nothin. But beautiful in it's way. ""RIDE ON"" from Central Oregon.
Hey EagleRider, cheers mate and you are spot on, middle of nowhere. I've been out there 3 times now and I still get blown away at how remote it is.
Cheers for the 'Ride on' comment here in Sydney Australia.
Gday mate..did you ride the same set of knobbies all the way and back to Melbourne? What were they.
Hey Occyman, yes same set. I was really happy with the tyres actually.
Great job Craig, this is up there with your best, you do a great job on the commentary and editing which I know is another whole adventure on its own, thanks for taking us along sharing the adventure.
Cheers Bazz, yes its time consuming both during the ride and after to do a video but blokes like you make it worth it. Thanks mate and have a good one.
Love the quick video clips and brief commentary. I've watched a lot of endless videos of folks riding their bikes, but no context, just road flying by. You keep the content and the commentary fresh (much better than my Nova Scotia videos), you break the video up. I saw 45 min and thought, "This is going to be hard to watch" but it wasn't. I was engaged the entire time. The review of road conditions is the kind of stuff folks behind you savor. Well done.
Hi Searching for 6th Gear, mate thanks heaps for the comments. I really appreciate it. I sometimes think 'I wonder if anyone will like this?' however comments like yours makes the effort worthwhile. Stay tuned for part 3 mate, the actual Simpson Desert Crossing.
I will head over and check out some of your Nova Scotia videos, certainly part of the world I'd love to ride in.
Cheers again mate and have good one.
Great video jumping from Nebs and Toms channels - really enjoying your videos spur of the moment running commentary - but what you are showing us the actual difficulty of endless dunes soft sand but at the same time sharing your camaraderie helping each other out or just the evenings camp fires where you reflect your days riding - some spectacular scenery is captured - keep the videos coming
Hi whirinakii, great to have you watching my channel also mate. I'm stoked you are enjoying the vids and like my style. Really makes it all worth it. I do try and capture it all from the highs and the lows.
Still got a few more episodes to edit up so stay tuned mate. Have a good one now and ride safe.
Killer trip. Thanks for sharing mate 😎👍
Thanks MCA. Another one coming soon.
Desert parks pass is a total load of shit .... like you said , what do you get?
hahahaha on of those fees we just have to pay mate...
What are all the different bikes (makes/models/years)? Keep tabs of all different problems each one has or no problems.
Hey Michael, range of bikes from large Adv bikes to small Adv bikes. Have a look at part 1 and stay tuned for the future episodes to see all the bikes and problems if any.
Thanks mate great vid
Love the lack of heavy metal music and the fact that you show us a bit of the country.
The maps help to bring it all together.
I am surprised at how much fuel you took, is that a hard kit on your bike? I thought that would be enough.
Cheers mate, thanks for the comment.
From my research the magical fuel number was 40L however with the unknown detour of 60kms and me being heavier than most I wanted to take a little extra.
My bike set up is Rally Raid products (tanks) and a MST Fairing product up the front.
Yep 👍 spot on the DR I take 40 l the 5 is spare your fuel injection probably does better
Awesome trip. Looks truly epic! Will need to come across the pond sometime and give it a shot myself! Notice the whistle from your helmet coming through the Mic. My helmet does this also! I removed the peak which eliminated the noise as it really bugged me while riding!
Do it Dan, you will love it however make sure you do all of NZ as I've heard it's adventure heaven.
Cheers for the tip on the helmet noise.
Hi,
Thanks for the video.
Just wondering you had 50ltrs of fuel to start with, how much did you have left?
Just thinking of doing it on my 690.
Cheers Jeff
Good 1 Craig .... its a great place did you see any of my busted nutz stickers
Hey BTB, I will have to have a look at some of my photos. Cheers mate
I know I not the first to comment on it ... but " If you carnt tie knots tie lots" love it... your vids are great with the exception of wind noise sometimes...
Hey Pat, lots of knots helps.. lol
Yeah, sorry about the wind noise, I just didn't realise how bad it was during the trip. I will endeavour to fix that issue before my next adventure.
Cheers mate.
I just made a rookie error and watched the latest vid straight away.. now I have to wait for the next one... 😀😀
Awesome work mate as usual.
ahhaah cheers Jarrad. I better get another video out asap for ya mate.
Great work Shadower 75! Excellent footage and commentary. Love the banter amongst the group. Looking forward to next episodes too, keep it coming :)
Hey mate, cheers for that. Always makes it fun to have some friendly banter. Next episode is in the desert so should be a good one.
At first I had no idea what you meant by corrugated, but once you showed it, I got it. Around here (I am in the USA) we call it washboard.
Epic trip, thanks for sharing.
Hey my American friend, glad you enjoyed it mate. Australia or America Im sure the corrugations (washboards) are the same, bone rattling.
Cheers mate.
Great video...very pro!
What saddlebags are you using? They look pretty versatile, and big enough without being too big.
Hey Ronanm thanks for the comment mate.
The pannier bags are Wolfman Rocky Mountain saddle bags.
Check out my video on whai carry in each etc
ua-cam.com/video/yTnS1CvL0vU/v-deo.html
Ah, yes...I watched the video. We use quite a lot of the same gear. I use the same Kriega tool roll with a great Wera metric kit & other tools, and I put it in a US10 Kriega along with my pump & tube. I also ride with the same Klim backpack with the 3L hydration pack...I love it. I used those things when I did Russia etc last year for 4 months.
Seems we have the same taste in gear mate.
Now all I have to do is get myself to Russia. That would have been awesome.
Wow looks like an epic adventure .....
Cheers Davyboy. Next episode is in the desert mate so hopefully everyone likes this one too.
Hey man, great vids! I really like your style and attitude. Keep it up and don't change a thing!
Cheers Andrew. Thanks for the comment mate.
Love it.
Keep em coming.
This country is an untapped gold mine of adventure.
Hey Robert, sure is a gold mine of Adventure Australia. Hopefully you get to see it.
Thanks mate.
@@Shadower75
Me too. 😀
Is that the Hondo Perfect Squeeze phone mount?
What do you think of it & how did it perform??
Hey Tim, no its a RAM mount Quickgrip phone mount. I think it's a great product. Never had it let go on me.
Wow fantastic as usual yep still the same out there had to lol about the 7/10 track conditions then this trashed trailer appeared . Loving the ride👍
Hey Rockbiter Hd, I too had a good laugh at the track condition then the trashed trailer. Classic
Great video really enjoyed that
Cheers
Thanks Jim. Ride safe mate.
This is tv quality great job 👌👍
Cheers Jono.
from the US, just sold my first bike (cbr250r) and certainly looking to get a wr250r to do this type of stuff (starting with slightly smaller adventures though!). Came from Tom's channel, been enjoying your view of the journey. Good stuff. Cheers.
Cheers Conshien, welcome to the channel mate. Nothing wrong with the mighty wr250. Have a good one now
Mate, I love your videos. Nice one. They make me want to go to Oz, rent a bike and find some red dirt.
Hey Steve, if you get the opportunity to get here, do it. You wont regret it.
Thanks for the comment mate. Have a good one wherever you are.
Some great footage, really enjoyed the video. Not sure about those roads though. 😳
Cheers Brad C. Those roads mate are the best.
Have a good one mate.
whats that 80´s videogame´y feel introsong called. I love it, great vid by the way!
Hey toby, I too love that intro music. Link to it below mate.
ua-cam.com/video/CDeg2mDlXho/v-deo.html
Cheers.
Wow these videos awesome! A fair bit better than RidingWithTom banging on about his light weight camping setup 😉
Cheers Nippy, guess we all make different vids hey.
Awesome video, great watching your adventure....
Thanks Rob
Awesome part mate, very informative great insight🤙 Haha mate swallowing flys aint nice! 😂
Thanks ST Adventures, those flies are easy to swallow but always get stuck in your throat...lol
First time I've watched one of your vlogs and I did not expect it to be that good so ive subscribed and well done. It's also great to have a brake from watching a whining egotistical smart arse as much as I also enjoy that 😂😂😂
Thanks Michael, really appreciate your comments and glad you enjoy my videos.
Have a good one mate,
First fly😂😂 expect many?
Brilliant movie... Love it... Thanks mate...
ahahahha just the one this time Toby.
Cheers mate
@@Shadower75 sometimes its not to avoide.. Hahaha.....
Great video. Appreciate your time and effort putting it together for us like minded adventure bike nutters. Looking forward to Big Red footage!
Hey Night Falcon, thanks for the comment mate. Means a lot when other adventurers appreciate the time and effort.
The next episode is purely in the desert. I've tried to capture the how hard it is and fun at the same time.
Another fine job! Keep it up. Really enjoy watching your adventures. I ride a 690 also. Fantastic bike.
Thanks fellow 690 rider. They are a great bike.
Cheers mate
Craig, brilliant watching, particularly during lockdown! Fantastic production, thanks.
Good on you Dale, glad you like them mate. Cheers
Another great epi Craig, just wondering what your using for GPS? Tried to zoom in but couldn't focus .cheers
Thanks heaps Paul. Glad you enjoyed the episode.
I was using the Hema map app on an old iphone on this trip. Cheers
600kms on clay/dirt/sand on a mission.
If you cant tie knots you tie lots... heard that a few times.
Gah brake res caps... and some people complain about that screw in metal tab to stop them from spinning off.
Oh ya... you feel it when the sun starts to set.
I had never heard it.... but its still a rule I follow!
The thing is... I have seen people do it and things still fall off.
I seen that rule applied plenty of times.. lol
Corrugations take no prisoners thats for sure.
cheers mate.
Corrugations, it is about finding that right speed to stop/lower the harmonics... until you find that patches speed it can be jarring.
Awesome video I'm jealous keep up the good work and ride safe 👍
Thanks Pauly 83.
This series is brilliant
Cheers Russ, glad you like it mate. Start the desert crossing next episode
So enjoyable
Thanks solohoh
Awesome once again mate. Really enjoyed that.
dwlee67 glad you liked it mate. Have a good one now.
@41:17: "Adeliade" :D BTW - great vids!
Thanks for that! Appreciate it Nick.
Bloody good
Cheers Stephen
Really enjoying the series. Great mix of commentary, riding, etc.!
Glad you enjoy it!
Brilliant, and the best thing? You don't give a hoot where Starbucks is.
That is what makes this country so special. Absolutely nothing in the outback except for legend people and amazing isolation. Cheers
Another great series, thatnks for letting us come on the journey cant wait for the crossing.
Cheers ADV-MOTO-Rider 72, the crossing is in the next episodes and hopefully you won't be let down.
@@Shadower75 what editing software you using?
New sub. Great video
Thanks byknphil k, glad you like them mate.
Great stuff.... was that $170 each or the total for All
its $163.00 each they don't miss you that's for sure
It is $170 for each vehicle, for a 12 month Desert Parks pass. A car with multiple passengers is still $170, however you can go as many times as you like.
We all paid $170 each.
Cheers Sausage
It's per vehicle.
Epic!
Cheers
great riding guys . cheers steve/west Australia
Thanks Steve. Lucky for these vids as I would love to be back there right now instead of lockdown. Stay safe out west mate, cheers
AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Great series! Loving it!
Cheers Bill.
thank you.
Thanks Justin
AMAZING video. What tires are you running on your 690?
Cheers for the comment mate. On this trip I was running Motoz Tractionator Desert HT tyres.
@@Shadower75 Thank you, yes I saw that later on. Excellent work on your vlogs! Entertaining and informative. I will sadly - probably never get the chance to experience Australia so I thank you for taking us dreamers along for the adventure!
If you can't tie knots you tie lots. Love it
Hahaha thats it mate. Tie away. Cheers for watching
