I also run a 270 on drivers side. Perfect for backing uo to ocean on west coast and throw shade south. Also parking next to caravan and meeting awnings of van and car. Works for me.
Ours is also on the right, but out of necessity as I'd made a really good axe & shovel mount on passenger side. Ours is a tad different though as it's a Bunduawn 360° unit, wraps round back, side & front of vehicle. Great for shading the whole car. Then the Bundutop RTT has a seperate entry awning over access on passenger side, hence we end up fully encircled, haha, surrounded.
Think it looks great, Dan, and the colours seem right. It's not out of proportion and the RTT / awning combo work well together. Keen to know what you like, or don't after 2 weeks.
you need bash plates cos you aint got a diff..dont do any extreeme 4x4ing,,they break..carry some tie rods, cv,s.. decent tool kit.. watch trail mater.. for repairs.. watched, here, in aus,, an fj cruiser, roll, very slowly, driving down a 10 '', step.. ifs,, bs.. no travel, like 79,s.. stay on the green stuff.. like the 70,s range ravers...did..
Yep the ocam gear rocks, bought mine when i saw you guys at Sydney, Ocam was very helpfull, love these videos, as I build my 80Td, motor now factory blueprint.
Love your vid Dan🇦🇺 Did you go the ocam 1250 wide or 1350 wide for your setup and also did you put any rubber between the tent and rack to stop vibrations? Thanks mate
The OCAM flat rack is fucking great, I love mine. And the mesh fence gate style is so much more versatile and useable than those overpriced Rhino or similar systems with defined attachment areas.
Hey Dan, just wondering how you mounted your awning? Looks like the awning bracket is squished between the roof rack mounting bracket and the floor rack?
looks good ,Dan. as you said some look like crap. good move attaching bits and pieces while still on the work bench👍. now, have you measured from ground to highest point? some car parks are as low as 2 m.not nice when u hit the bar if u dont know height, lol.again tho another great video from you guys .👏
Question why not put the awning on passenger side so you can use it if you pull off on the side of the road and have lunch or anything like that is there a reason you wanted on driver's side just curious
From what I’ve worked out, you currently have 130kg to n the roof. Might just want to check what the roof is rated to carry mate, just for safety and insurance claims. Otherwise, looks great!
Do early GQ's have a roof weight limits? Could be a recommendation and if so it would just be that, a recommendation. Weight limits came into force after GQ production I thought. I may well be wrong though. Recollection is all those manufacturers weight limits came into play around 1999-2000. Ahe, the good old days, load her up and drive it, who cares as long as the tyres stayed round with added air pressure. Had a mate in the Simpson, roof gutters collapsed, roof rack came down over all door frames, they were locked in the truck, haha. Doubt it was a Nissan, he's a Toyota fan boy off old.
Look hard enough and you'll see many. For me it was out of necessity as I'd built some great axe & shovels holders on the passenger side, then opted for a roll out awning, never got used much as too fiddly to set up, especially if alone. I then went full RTT with Bundutop, side entry awning & the 360° awning. As we had the fore mentioned shovel & axe holders on passenger side we had to enter the RTT via passenger side, hence the attached RTT entry awning is on the passenger side (lifts up with RTT) & we have our 360° again mounted on the drivers side. 360° awning gets used as it as simple as folding in two 270° awnings, easily by yourself. Best thing, being 360° it can be mounted on either side of car, not specific as 270° are and it stops sun beating in thru windscreen on really warm days. Anyhow, now you have seen Dan's I'm sure you'll notice many are on the drivers side.
All looks great but i reckon your going to get sick of banging your head on those awning arms real quick. Either need to put a lift in the Patrol or raise the awning higher.
You guys sure don’t like bushproofing your installs. Not using nyloc nuts or loctite on anything, just asking for the roofrack to rattle loose over time
Can we start getting some actual driving videos? These build this, construct that, learn this, product flogging videos are getting real old real fast. Gotten boring real fast.
They work well but I can’t stand seeing them on cars full time. A freind of mine developed a pulley system where he can take it off and put it on within 10 mins.
@kenezos I see literally zero advantages to them unless you're camped next to a river full of crocs. Bad for fuel economy, bad for roll over angle, waste the entire space of the rack, climbing to get in & out, have to get the vehicleperfectly level & having to pack it up to move the vehicle make them the single best mod to stuff up a perfectly good 4wd to me. Even a take on off set up doesn't make them much better. You don't have to cart it around full time but doesn't solve any of the other issues with them.
Always good to see a video from you Dan.
Bring back the mullet mate !
Cheers Pat 🇦🇺
We need more of this professional! Absolutely star of the channel! Cool calculated master of all things automotive
Dan the man you sir have build one hell of a rig! What a transformation this patrol has made
I also run a 270 on drivers side. Perfect for backing uo to ocean on west coast and throw shade south. Also parking next to caravan and meeting awnings of van and car. Works for me.
Never thought of that!

Just simply awesome. The care you take of this car is awesome! Well done !!!
Gday Dan, I think it’s topped the look of the patrol off nicely and thank god you don’t run black rims, looks fantastic mate, cheers
We never got the Patrol, but still love the video. Great presenter. Cheers from Tennessee, USA!
Love the winch system load testing 🤣
What a mint looking tourer. With a RTT, you just need to be ready for 2am nature calls. 😁
Just use 2l container with lid for 2am pee call, saves getting in and out.❤
@@glenfilby7637you stole my line😂
biggest reason I don't have a RTT

Patrol looks great tent definitely suits the look of the vehicle.
No need to worry Dan. It looks good. It's like it was built for it. Looks like a wicked tourer now. 😁
Big mob of young people coming through great video to show how ezy it can be enjoy the trip
She does look pretty sweet mate! Thinking of the Ocam awning for my GQ and my trailer with the rooftop on it.
Love the setup!
Lovely episode. Cannot wait to see you guys touring.

Looks excellent mate. They can sometimes look ridiculously top heavy but I think on the gq it’s really in proportion.
Coming along great. Waiting for my Ocam roof rack for the 200 and just got me 6mm bash plates from them too. Looks smick.

Hi Dan, Have you added all the item weights on the roof. Be interesting to know what the total weight is at the moment. The setup looks great, Monty
Always love these clips!
Epic build! I'll build my GQ out like this eventually
best mod for a GQ wagon is a fold down table on the big rear door... do it, they are the best
Never been a fan of the look of a roof top tent. But this actually does look good
hey mate how do u stop the stock patrol mirror moving at 100km I tight the bolt but they still move
Looks great ❤
mate you should look at adjusting your awning up slightly higher so you dont need to bend down walking under roof poles. Your rig is looking awesome.
Oh Dan, the unit looks great, but gees the flares are taking away from the awesomeness.
Give them some TLC.
Regards, Wealie.

Just curious Dan, why did you opt for a platform over bars if you’re going to have a tent on it? Be lighter again with just bars
Unfortunately I assume it's because ocam don't sell cross bars.
Not that there's anything wrong with having sponsors.
Ronnie D is just covering the same subject
Hey Dan, just wondering how you mounted your awning? Looks like the awning bracket is squished between the roof rack mounting bracket and the floor rack?

Need to tyre shine the plastics now. Will make it look brand new.
Keeen to see you fellas at Brisbane!
See you there !

Love the set up, definitely the way I’d set my car up to, minus the maxtrax as I like drive throughs
Looks great 👍👍👍👍👍
Nice set up 👍🏽 what’s the stats on you’re rim set up ? Cheers
So off topic from the actually video but with the club permit rego are you limited on how much you can drive it
Yeah its either a month option or 3months throughout year
In Victoria (where these guys are from) it’s 45 days a year or 90 days a year have to fill out a logbook for every day the car is driven
Dont forget to upgrade brakes champ!!!❤❤
Hey old mate do you think it would fit a thick double sleeping bag and pillows cheers
Tyler Thompson has Burto , Ausie arvos has Dan , coupla aussie legends 👍👍
How’s the weight
On my patrol feel like top heavy
Would love to see a fuel economy comparison between the rigs on the way to brissy
ia liam going to the 4x4 show in brizzy im thinking about going
Yep he is!
I have the same awning and I love it, 🤔 the roof top might be hard to hide from the wife
Dan the man.
Question why not put the awning on passenger side so you can use it if you pull off on the side of the road and have lunch or anything like that is there a reason you wanted on driver's side just curious
It's on the side his fridge and original emu wing went on, plus the 12v setup so that's why drivers !
All up, how many kg do you have on the roof now?
See you guys in brissy
Hey Patty what editing software do you use?
Should put a lightbar infront of the roof top tent
any idea on total weight?
Supprised at the weight of the tent. Thought she was going to be a roof tank.
The space infront of the tent.... would a light bar be legal 😅?
Yeeewww now we can do gum soon boys
I’d like to see some before and after economy figures
Dan, the GQ now looks as sharp as a rat with a silver tooth, excellent job. Enjoy
Ahh Dan...you're a legend in your knowlegde mate. I really feel you were born in the wrong decade though :)
Looking good Dan - dropped some weight?
Has Dan lost a few kg’s? Obviously was never a big boy but you’re looking bloody great mate! Keep it up bro

Look hard enough and you'll see many.

Do you boys get free gear from OCAM?
I reckon they do. Or get huge discounts.
Some UA-camrs will declare arrangements. Some don't...

I disagree with you mate, plenty of blokes to watch online that drive around through tracks. Go watch them.
Then there’s me, who could watch these build videos all day 🤣
Gotta build a vehicle before you can take it away champ.
