I actually love seeing little annotations in library books, it's like a window back into the book's past. Highlighting and pen marks do annoy me, but I love little penciled in notes.
Victorian novels tend to be idealized portraits of difficult lives in which hard work, perseverance, love and luck win out in the end. They were usually inclined towards being of improving nature with a central moral lesson at heart. Most recommendable for those, who wants to know about the creative work of the past
I'm Australian and hearing about Charles Dickens and his perceptions of Australia is so interesting!! Thanks for sharing this video, you always get me so motivated :)
Me too and I agree, super interesting to understand Dickens perspective! Also quite shocking when you consider that Australia was far from a utopia at that time. Much more like a dystopia for the Indigenous population.
Hi Ruby, i just wanted to tell you that i was always unmotivated before watching your videos and my attention span was less . I was never focused on what i was doing and didnt like studying for more than 30 minutes. After watching your videos about productivity and how you study, i became very motivated and now i love to study and i can say that im the biggest bookworm you'll ever meet. Thank you Ruby for motivating me and help me realize how study and reading books is fun! I am very thankful. I hope i meet you some day . Love you!
RUBY U ARE SO INSPIRING...KEEP DOING WHAT U ARE DOING......BE STUDIOUS....SAY NO TO THE HATERS...CARRY ON AND SUCCEED IN YOUR LIFE!!!!!! AMAZING FOR BEING VEGAN THATS SO GOOD FOR THE ANIMALS...
Hi Ruby, big fan of yours. I came across your channel last year while searching for some study tips, since then I've been hooked to your videos. By the way I am a potterhead too. Loads of love From India ❤️❤️
This was the video I needed without knowing... I'm in a hard study session for my final exam of school and progetting on attending university and studying foreign languages and literature... I couldn't be more excited and you made me even more enthusiastic about studying English literature.🤩
It is so weird in England and Ireland due to coronavirus things. Our last day of school was absolutely hectic because of clearing out our lockers. Libraries are opening on Monday here in Ireland. Loved the nostalgic video showing what it was like back then. (edit - hello to all the fellow irish, keep on eating your tayto while watching the taoiseach's speech)
I am student in China, but my school located in WuHan,so this term I can't go back to my campus,I really miss my classmates and campus, through your video I can regain the passion of learning,so keep fighting!!!
You can learn to speed read! I was always a naturally fast reader, and I found out that I could use more speed reading techniques to enhance my reading. There’s tons of videos and techniques online on how you can speed read, so you should definitely check it out! 💓
I am the opposite..I LOVE finding other people's annotations in books...seeing what they were thinking, adding your own, almost like a chat in a book. Helps to see different things, other perspectives etc. Prob why I buy so many second hand books, in the hope I see marks left by previous reader❤
Does anyone else rewatch Ruby's blogs from lockdown/ her home uni vlogs because that almost feels nostalgic now that things are opening up again? Or do I just have the soul of a medieval hermit, loving the solitude of working/ studying from home?
I loved this video so much! I miss studying in libraries and coffee shops :( But I really liked how you went through your essay/research routine. I'm not in university yet, but it's helpful to learn what strategies people use!!!!
My library is going to open in a few days but it is mandatory to wear masks and you have to Clorox wipes the bookcovers before you borrow them and before you put them back
Ruby, I am a speech and language therapist (with a previous undergraduate degree in English literature). I'm always struck by the thought that this would be a wonderful vocation for you. It takes a love of language and a love of people - both attributes that you and I seem to share.
I´ almost done with my master's degree in history and even though I´m struggling a bit with getting on with my thesis, I´m getting really nostalgic! I loved to be a uni student. I´m looking forward to working next year but I´m already thinking about doing another master in the future as I´d loved to study anthropology and ethnology as well as Indo-European studies. Enjoy your time at Uni, while it lasts!
Hey Ruby! i'm Australian, and i really hope that you mentioned the fact that even though Charles Dickens thought of Australia as an idilyc utopia, it really wasn't back then, especially for the indigenous population, which many are not aware of, particularly outside of Australia. Hope you're having a wonderful week! :)
I’m from Exeter but going into my Final year at the University of Bath, and just seeing the library makes me nostalgic to the days during my A Levels when I would go to the University library to study during the day and then go to the theatre in the evening
Ruby I miss the library just as much! It was like a temple to me, I always felt calm and composed there and with this Covid, I definitely had a harder time studying at home (The atmosphere is just not right for studying tbh) :( can you make a video on how you make notes from reading books? Like I'd love to see you a video you doing an essay from 0 to completion?
I think you are a true academic! The thorough way that you research, including going to the primary sources, and the way that you go about your reading and genuinely enjoy it all, you seem to me like an MA and (later) PhD student in the making...?
I’m happily and productively using your powder blue master planner and lilac study planner sheets. I tuck them into my handbag or pocket to stay focused on the go. :) This video was nicely presented. Best of luck with everything!
I also miss the library and the rest of campus. Even the little things like finishing lecture and listening to someone playing the piano in the Forum early evening before heading off home.
I'm really missing the library too and honestly have to say this lock down has completely affected my studies, I'm constantly 3 weeks behind with no inspiration to have a couple of mega study days to catch up. As I study with the OU I enjoyed a few hours in the local town library once a week and once a month I had a day in York studying at the Explore library and it really helped whenever I got stuck on a section.
I'm glad that you uploaded this even if it's updated. I miss libraries too! Also, I think you do a great job by including archives documents to your essays. If you ever want to share which ones do you use the most, I'll be happy to know :)
Hi ruby! So inspiring this video! I was wondering whether you could do a video on how you published your book :) xx no worries if you can't , love from Olly x
Biggest wish of the year to go back to uni in September ... I really took the library time and lectures for granted and I miss them so much as geeky as that sounds...let’s hope it all starts on time and there is no more delay I should be starting September 1st 😬🙏🏽
Hey Ruby. In Australia we have a system called 'Red Cycle' where we can recycle all of our soft plastics at the local supermarkets. Do you have something like that where you are? Then you won't have to feel so bad if ever you are in a position of needing to buy something in soft plastic packaging :)
Hello Ruby, i am a really big fan of you, and i really love you. This video makes me very motivated, so i recommend doing more of this videos. Love you and stay productive! hart, hart, hart.... - L.
Hi ruby! I missed the library so much that I spoiled myself with a kindle and went a bit too over the top 😅 also can you read with noise or without noise? If so please share your tips on how you read with background noise !! Hope you are staying well and productive ruby lots of love 🥰
Hey I love your videos so much 💕, would you ever do a video where every day for a week you tell us the best thing and worst thing that happened in your day? Not sure if it would be too personal but I haven’t seen it been done before so think it would be quite interesting 💕
I always find these videos so entertaining because I like seeing and hearing about other stuff people are studying. I’m an engineering major so the stuff I study isn’t that thought provoking I feel.
I hope you're doing well Ruby! I miss school as well and I will be off to university in September. I wish you luck for next year and I hope everyone will return to some form of normalcy soon 💞🥺
I’m from Australia, and people from different countries think we are different but we are actually very similar to places like America, England and New Zealand. I am not talking about how we speak, just about how we live.
*OMG! What a beautiful vlog!!* I love it. Good vibes! Btw. When I was studying at the university (not in the UK), I almost slept in the library lol (I was there seven days a week lol ) Thanks for sharing, Ruby!
Here it's so bittersweet :( I actually had to go back to uni for my exams, so I'm currently in my student room. But we can't study in the library, my absolute favourite thing to do... Anyways, I'm grateful I get to make "normal" exams instead of suddenly having to switch to online exams
Your so motivating.. i have so much to study at this time though I am 15 yrs.. In my country India. the govt decided to keep the board exams though there are so many covid - 19 cases. my exams stat from 8th June.. wish me luck because I don't want to die..........
13:51 when you said that I’ve only finished that much in 4 days.. wow honestly I finish that much in like a week or something.. how can you read so much in just little time?
Hi Ruby ! I'm currently reading Elisabeth Browning (who i had never heard about before i was told to read her), and since you love poetry, i was wondering if you knew her and if you enjoyed her work. Plus, she's a female poet, which is definitely special ! Have a nice day :)
'I wanted to go to bed early but I might not have the same creativity and love for the work in the morning.' MOST RELATABLE THING EVER
Literally me, hard to get into the groove and then once you’re in it you don’t want to get out!
Sophie Tulley same!!!
I actually love seeing little annotations in library books, it's like a window back into the book's past. Highlighting and pen marks do annoy me, but I love little penciled in notes.
I agree 😊
Same
Yes, same! And they often help me as well!
Same, you read my mind. 😀❤️

Same - it was really interesting. I'm an Australian living in Idaho and the second wave of the virus is coming. argh!
im amazed on how many books you can read through in one sitting

I've missed these calming university vlogs! cant wait to uni- whenever that is!
I love annotations on previously owned books, some kind of magic in them!
Hi Ruby, big fan of yours. I came across your channel last year while searching for some study tips, since then I've been hooked to your videos. By the way I am a potterhead too.
Loads of love

dude how does she read autobiographies so fast like it's a short story
You can learn to speed read! I was always a naturally fast reader, and I found out that I could use more speed reading techniques to enhance my reading. There’s tons of videos and techniques online on how you can speed read, so you should definitely check it out! 💓
I know! I was just thinking the same thing and I consider myself a fast reader. 😅

I love it how you put classical music in the background
I also miss the library, but in Spain they're still closed 😥
They’re still closed everywhere not just Spain
I know I'm sorry 😞 mines closed too
The libraries where I live aren’t closed
My library is going to open in a few days but it is mandatory to wear masks and you have to Clorox wipes the bookcovers before you borrow them and before you put them back
Closed in Germany

Literally seeing the University of Exeter’s facilities just makes me more excited to go there in the future!!
I miss “real life” so much :(
i don't.
Me neither. World must change.
I´ almost done with my master's degree in history and even though I´m struggling a bit with getting on with my thesis, I´m getting really nostalgic! I loved to be a uni student. Love this! Perfect motivation for a rainy Saturday. Hope you have an awesome day! You're such an inspiration :) x
12:00 This would probably be my favorite clip of Ruby out of context :> so wholesome and cute and memeable 💖
I’m from Exeter but going into my Final year at the University of Bath, and just seeing the library makes me nostalgic to the days during my A Levels when I would go to the University library to study during the day and then go to the theatre in the evening

I was really unmotivated the past few days and this helped me to get up and do something productive!!
Thank you so much, Ruby 🌼💕
I always watch a bunch of videos by Ruby whenever I feel anxious and demotivated. Her videos relax me an awful lot.
I miss working in the library too 😭
And GOSH! How long does it take you to read the books from front to back? You must read at the speed of light! 😅
That's exactly what we all need to watch nowadays.
Stay safe, and stay close( not literally) to family and friends❤️
Ahh I miss studying at cafes :(( I have exams for the next two weeks.. Good luck to everyone with exams! 💗 🥺👍🏻
I think you are a true academic!
The thorough way that you research, including going to the primary sources, and the way that you go about your reading and genuinely enjoy it all, you seem to me like an MA and (later) PhD student in the making...?

U are an inspiration ruby
