    Which Leather Bag Closure Should you Use?
    There are a whole lot of options when it comes to closures for leather bag projects in leathercraft. Often times the closure can be the defining feature of a leather piece, so it's a big decision! We go through many non-magnetic options you have for leather bag closures, as well as show you how to install a classic turn lock in this video. Enjoy!

    i love magnetic closures.
    i made a little english paring knife holster with a magnet in the flap that sticks to the paring knives itself through a cutout in the holster itself that perfectly fits the magnet + piece of leather holding it under the flap.

    Another fantastic review and tips vid. I am a big fan of loxx closures on a more masculine bag, but the tuck locks are popular as well. Especially behind a buckle billet. Very exited for the chisel release.

    Buckleguy has the thinnest magnetic locks in the world. They are terrific for small things. Self centering. Really strong. Easy to install. Rivets or prongs. Plus, I would love to see a video on how you would install thin magnets inside a leather cover. I know there must be some kind of lining or cover to the magnets. Plus, nowhere near a credit card.

      So after realizing my previous hobby was entirely too expensive to continue, i thought I'd get into leather since leather CANT be an expensive hobby..... Pfff boy was I wrong! I have a list of tools I need a mile long and won't even get into the "want" list

      @@mochenmat I moved a couple years ago and thought I would get into wood working. Wood prices were through the roof. A little later I found leather. I still shudder when I see the prices for a side, but I'm this far in too late to go back now.

      @@michaels2208 my thoughts exactly! Especially for any kind of decent looking leather, I have to take out a 2nd mortgage to be able to afford the next project.... I thought 3d printing would be a less expensive and cool hobby to get into also.... Oooph once again fooled by my own naiveness! my S.O. told me to find a cheaper hobby and I told her that leather IS the cheaper hobby haha

      @@mochenmat oh man you sound just like me. I was thinking of trying it the 3d printing. I'm a vet got disability so my therapist is on board with me having a hobby. So I get a little more wiggle room than I would normally, lol. She went with me to Tandy a couple weeks ago. She was on board with getting stuff, even commenting this is nice. I was trying to proceed with caution. Rang up 400 bucks, she looked at me like I had nine eyes. I got a pass, but that might be her last trip there with me.

    What leather is your personal bag made from? Just plain natural veg that's aged, or something else? The texture just looks so good.

    It's really interesting watching independent leather artists like you. I used to love Mulberry ( and still have some of their gorgeous, indestructible vintage bags in nvt, glace and harness leather . ). I'm not interested since Johnny Coca took over design about 8 yes ago ( or more) and removed the iconic mulberry tree design and designed stuff in split hide in styles like MK that were double the price.
    I recently had a price on replacing a clasp like you showed. They refuse to just replace the top part and are charging £180 plus vat for a new clasp and quote 10-12 weeks to do it. The hardware they are now offering doesn't even match the original brass and looks like plastic. I'm currently trying to find a local repair service that could repair it even though it won't be mulberry branded hardware.
    I've seen similar designs and quality that you are showing through the Cambridge Satchel company here in the UK but of course they wouldn't be hand made like your items!

    Sometimes when I'm making a wallet or small pouch for a kid I'll use hook and loop closures (Velcro). Easy to sew on and easy for the kids to open and close.

    Leather work is great, very expensive to keep doing on a crap paying job. Hard to get a business in it and stand out, so might retire after 2 years of leather crafting crap no one will buy. So, good luck to the leather community throwing money away easily and adds up fast.

    Hah your channel is like a walking billboard to the highest bidder. Used to be Weaver now it's all Buckleguy this and Buckleguy that :) It's obvious that your opinion is highly influenced by the sponsors. It's sad because it would be cool if you would give honest reviews..

    • @Corter
      @Corter  2 роки тому +3

      We like to think 2 long-term sponsors in 6 years is an acceptable way to fund our content, because we would not be able to make weekly videos without a sponsor. That being said, Bucleguy made a really nice tool holder and objectively makes the highest quality, least expensive setting dies on the market - that wasn't so much a billboard as it was a statement :)
