The Circuit of Ireland was always a great pleasure to work on when I used to be a sound recordist with a film crew. Not only was it a terrific tarmac rally attracting a great field of runners and riders, but the Killarney halts were the best of all parties. The bars did great business and a good time was had by everyone. The CoI was very special.
it was one of if not the best rally I ever spectated on,myself and few other lads followed it right from start to finish and was sorry to see Vatanen lose but as McRae later said it could easily have been him who rolled at the same spot as Ari.
Superb upload! That Escort driven by Billy Coleman was very special indeed. One of three built by Boreham to 'ultimate tarmac' spec for the 1979 season, it was the only right hand drive version. The other two were used on the '79 Monte Carlo rally only before being sold off. Later on it was sold to Bertie Fisher and is modelled in this spec by SunStar.
Billy's Chase car crew tried to stop him leaving start of SS23 they saw oil dripped from dry sump union but had got the Count down 321..he may well have won it, thats the fine margins..i suppose 1984 a similar situation went Billys way..Paddy Sullivan VHS 📼 1990s Cork ireland
