About this song, here are the member's comment: (traduction thanks to Kairu Kafuka in the fb worlwide BM page) Miku - And there it is. I'm quite fond of this song-po. I also like the lyrics-po. In this song, I feel Kanami has gotten broken, that she is so cool. H-G-K title is taken from a bomb named after it. I wrote chorus lyrics some russian based magical charms on it-po. Akane - As for this song, I kept holding my breath while playing drums the whole time that I don't know when to breathe at all. It's all over the place also. During the calm part, I used a technique that whenever I use the high-hat, I use my hands to play my feet while being closed. Saiki - The mouth is so busy. I like the part "Sa-ke-be-!". Kanami - Saiki-sensei told me "Compose a song that combines alone and choose me." What do you think? But the song turned out to be completely different, lol. H-G-K could be the most difficult song to play the guitar in this album.
MISA - I love Kanami's solo at the first part. I highly recommend closely listening it. At the second verse, I composed the bass phrases in mind on how Saichan will sing it and I'm glad she completely sang it.
H-G-K imo is overall the best track of this album. Its fast paced, has a nasty technical main riff, catchy chorus, great vocal work around the chorus, crazy 2nd verse, Misa going off every now snd then, Akane and Kanami are pretty much going ham throughout, and the best part- the transition from the chorus to the solo and onto the bridge. Simply flawless songwriting. The outro complimented the song perfectly too. Even that solo itself was the best solo of the album. If they release an MV for this, it’d be the perfect “introduction” video as this has every element of the core “Band Maid sound” at its current finest.
H-G-K = Kanami's rule-free playground. The song has a similar effect on me as 'Different'. It may sound a bit random and chaotic at the beginning, but somehow it all fits together. In any case, it provides variety for the whole album and gives at least a little insight into how far Kanami could go if she really wanted to.
I think if we have learned anything is that locking Kanami and Miku up for most of the year that they are coming out firing on all cylinders. Miku with her writing and Kanami with the composer of the music. Sakia is like oh man what have you two been up to...lol. Misa and Akane are just killing on every song.
Kanami uses 2 harmonizer pedals. I know she may recorded it in different tracks and takes, but on live she uses the harmonizers, so yes, sometimes seems to be her playing 2 guitars (or more + some backing track, like in ONSET). Although last year she said 1 of the pedals (the "Eventide"?) was being used just for its "reverb effect", but she was looking forward to use that pedal as an harmonizer too. So, 1 year later... we really don't know now, haha!
Yes, it's a Kanami song. And again, Saikis part right after Kanamis solo (2:08), with MISA in the back - they love doing that - is soo good :) BUT the interesting thing (or two) for me on this song is also in the lyrics. H-G-K stands for a bomb -> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HGK_(bomb) Miku basically found the word "bomb" as too simple and searched for a better name XD Saiki apparently wanted the title to be something with a "Bang!", something "explosive" :D (*) And the second one... just blew my mind. The song has a repeating lyrics line: Saiki - "I'll cross my fingers" Miku - "Go to hell" Mikus one is in the background, not at the same volume, it's very "distant" The first time you hear it at the 0:34 mark... It's an old-school russian "custom" of saying It's basically a "Good luck!" - "Don't jinx it!" response "cross my fingers" for "good luck" is used in english too, but that "go to hell" response to it... oO it's "К чёрту!" in russian - literal translation would "to the devil" -> "to hell (with you)" that totally blew my mind. how the hell - or better where the hell - did she pull that one from?! I'm not perfect in russian by any means (I'm fluent to get a conversation going, can write and read), I never used it in that context. That isn't something you "just" learn, it's more of an old custom. I've however heard the older-than-me generation use it - and they had to explain that meaning to me XD That's not something non-russians would use XD And then Miku comes around and uses it casually in her lyrics. That's such a "Don't Dilly Dally" moment! Even more - she doesn't even speak the language in the slightest. With english - she at least understands it enough to read and going through a simple conversation. A russian way of phrasing however - WTH?! HOW DOES SHE COME UP WITH - OR FINDS - THAT STUFF?! oO WHAT PLACES DOES HER BRAIN GOES?! (*) Miku mentioned it in an recent interview: okmusic.jp/news/410674?page=2 You can run the text through google-translate - it does a pretty decent job on this one. Just keep in mind - if you have never used google-translate with band-maid before - Miku doesn't have a "husband and daughter", it's the way g-translate goes with "Masters and Princesses", also she and Kanami don't use "I" (like in "I did", implying "only me, no one else") that much, in a lot of cases it's a "we"...
miku mention in interview she usually get her lyric inspiration by going outside, but since covid happen she shifted to novel and manga, a whole ton lot of them from various genre. im pretty sure thats where she that old russian phrase.
Yeah, we all (... a lot of us) know by now that Band-Maids are geeky af. But there are still things like that all the time which surprise you. I knew they were a bunch of nerds since that Sailormoon band picture, so fairly early on. The backstage/daily-life posts of the band members show that side very clearly. It's known for a while that Miku is the band movie nerd, as well as reading a lot. She's searching for inspirations as she says, not wanting to write autobiographical stuff. Given the dark lyrics - I'm don't really believe that :P Who knows... Her mind certainly goes in some places. They seem to have this ("free" mind) in common with Kanami. Kanami listens to samba music - comes up with "Glory" (-> how? what?!), get's a request to make something in the vein of "Alone"/"Choose Me" and comes up with "H-G-K" - "well it turned out different than those two", laughs about it... Recently she mentioned she's into hip-hop now, we'll see where that goes...
Btw in an interview Kanami was asked if there is any track where she felt that she went overboard (songwriting) and this was her answer. She said she took 3 weeks continuous practicing to be able to play the intro good enough for the recording and that if she doesn’t keep practicing she probably won’t be able to play it properly live.
Kanami's tweets this morning during the #BMUWLP, she said that H G K came about from Saiki saying she wanted a song that merged Choose Me and Alone. Also said that she considers H G K to be the hardest guitar part for her so far. Akane tweeted that she couldn't figure out where to breathe so she just held her breath and went for it! She also said that she had to close the high-hat with her hand because her feet were too busy, lol... She's so crazy good!
No wonder I fell in love with this track the very first time I heard it, that main riff section just sounded so ridiculously nasty even to a complete musical noob like me. Man I hope this gets the next MV.
They all are hard worker, they probably practice and rehearse more than most bands. I used to see saiki as just a good singer. But now, she has blossomed into a great singer who can use her voice like an instrument, as well. Hats off to those 5 amazing musicians.
"Will be Miku when they play live." Kanami records all the guitar parts (per Miku and Kanami's interview with Young Guitar). Miku has her work cut out for her learning to play these Unseen World songs live. Actually, they all do, and have said so in interviews. Like Rush when they recorded Hemispheres, they may have written music that was beyond what they could replicate live (at least when it was recorded). Helluva lot of work they put in for us as they grow as musicians, which when you consider where they already are, is just ridiculous. Love this band so much.
Crabuki I would be surprised if Miku has not already learned her parts on the guitar! That little kawaii bundle of a woman has a very determined personality and she usually accomplishes what she sets out to do....the proof is in the existence of this band! She wanted it and did everything possible to get it....including finding Saiki to replace her as lead singer for the band....taking a back seat on vocals was a tough choice she took for the good of the band! Not many of our current over inflated ego artists would have done the same!
I think on a couple tracks Kanami played both the lead and rhythm for the album version where Miku plays it live. I'm not sure if this is one of those tracks. I love the crazy-ass guitar on this one, though! It seems like this is Kanami's song in the same way I Still Seek Revenge was Misa's. (and you said that literally half a second after I typed that).
Here is Misa's take on HGK (from the Young Guitar Interview... it has CC) ua-cam.com/video/JKvQ34ZYT9A/v-deo.html She says she respects Kanami because the intro to this song looks like it is difficult according to her
They all referred to it as Nightingale.. I can remember that much better than the Saia-something-dory! Kanami also said that she wrote the solo for Miku... too cool! Can't wait to see that!
Nightingale is actually one of my fav songs on the album. I love how they wrote a song that goes sooo freaking well with Miku's voice without losing the 'BM-feel' .. It's also obvious how much Miku has improved and worked on herself!!! I feel like BM has stepped up their game in general by using more of Miku's backvocals in most songs too.. Just damn 👌❤️ can't stop listening to the whole album!
There was a listening party of the Album yesterday. And the background here is that Saiki asked Kanami to make a song that combines alone and choose me, and she ended up making up a different song. 🤣

Kanami trying to write something based off another thing, and the end result turns out to be a completely different thing. Typical Mincho
