You've done a great job Restoring Joe's tool! From the Queen City of the Ozarks, thanks for the fun! :-)
I think that every now and again, a challenge like this is good to see how our skills have progressed. I may give it a try some of these days! Thanks for the fun, take care!!
You give us al hope that there is no tool beyond restoration! Like my Grandfather used to say, it can be fixed even if I have to melt it down and recast it! John, I know you keep your vids down to around the time you do b/c of viewer preference. Maybe a compromise and put parts like the making of that chuck in an ?extras? part at the end? It would have been great to see you make this part. Thanks for another great chapter in the Scoutcrafter story!
I live in Louisiana, our town was in the direct path of the eye of the hurricane. We are about 2 and 1/2 hours from the coastline. Its still almost completely destroyed. Estimated 4 weeks before we get power back on
Can it be saved? With you, I knew it could be! Great turnaround on that little drill. I love the new chuck, thank goodness for a lathe and the knurling is perfect. Thanks to Joe for supplying it. Have a great weekend my friend!
Another tool saved from scrap, just like the r recent pair of side cutters that would look good in any toolbox. I dont know if modern jewelers would use this old drill, but if not, it still has a useful life in model making or fine precision hobby work. It looks really good, and the new collet is a definite improvement over t he wingnut. Thanks
Wow, what a great job that really hits home for me, my grandfather was a jeweler and I remember seeing drills similar to that when I used to go visit his shop when I was a kid, thanks for the great memory you brought back. Ken
What a lovely bit of design. The big( not that big actually) ring gear and the circle enclosing the bevel gear. Like a sun and a moon. So simple but so pleasing to look at. Top job matey. Stay at the bottom end of the Beaufort scale 👍
Wow what a sweeeet little drill man what a transformation after it was In bad shape before and after crazy fantastic job scout hope you are all Safe and well over there god bless take care 🗽👏🙏🇺🇸👍🇳🇿
That really is an astounding turn around with that little drill. We lived on Long Island before I was old enought to go to school and the one storm I remember as a child was then. The lightning and especially the loud thunder scared me.
Wow! You did a great job on that! If you did not have video to prove that they are the same drill, I might have thought you were pulling a fast he on us! We just had a really heavy rainstorm here. I think I have a blocked storm drain on the garage, because the floor drain backed up and flooded about a third of my shop! ☹️
Thanks Scout I got through it. Laura was no joke anyone else in the area I hope you are ok as well. Your video made this Friday even better. Everyone have a great weekend and be safe out there. 😀👍
It's a jewel itself now! What a great restoration on a Friday! Very inspirational to start the weekend with, I better get cracking on this weekend too huh. The tip with the screw in your cordless drill is great, it works so good, however I use regular sandpaper in the palm of my hand most of the the time, I'm under the impression that that makes it easier to follow me keep the curves, the beltsander gives me miniature flat spots. Thank you so much and I hope you will have a great weekend over there!!
So I finally got a belt sander to assist in tool restoration, trying to follow in your footsteps John. Today I woke up and blew my nose, full of black metal dust. Guess I’ll be adding a mask to my ppe routine. Now I just need to locate a used polisher to accompany the wire wheel, and I’ll be making em shine!!
ScoutCrafter Can I PLEASE buy or have the Utica 1000 pliers you restored like 2 years ago if you still have them? I am a full time fenceman and I have been looking for a pair like those forever.

The wind, rain and thunder was so loud it woke me in the middle of the night and yes it's unnerving when you're surrounded by huge oaks and maples like we are.........I was fairly sure the wing nut was not correct but you never know until you research, some tools were produced in unexpected ways.
@@RightOnJonCrane West Bloomfield, Michigan right by Union Lake.......I also have a 40 Acre Farm about 75 miles from here which I plan on moving to one of these days.......Seems like usually when Scout has sun and blue skies we have clouds and vice versa but the past few days seems we're having similar storms........The lighting was so close last night you could here it traveling thru the air, gotta admit the power of a storm is somewhat exhilarating though.
Sweet. The guy probably upgraded his drill by adding that wingnut for a little more torque. Not that I would think it would have a tendency to unloosen with such small bits.
That turned out great. I would of thought it wss gone. You give me hope. Most the tools that I find around here that are for sale are in bad shape but not quite that bad. I won
Cedar Rapids Iowa, which is about an hour and twenty minutes away from where I live, was hit by a Derecho about 10 days ago. The devastation was incredible. It hit with a category 2 hurricane force, and lasted for well over an hour. This time of year can be very unpredictable.
Its a shame you didnt include the lathe footage, it would be so nice to see you doing that piece. I have a similar drill, but with a wood handle, used it a lot for electronic circuits.
Where’s da red. It doesn’t look finished without some Scout Crafter red😂. I remember seeing that on Joe’s channel when he first got it and he said those drills don’t do much for him but he thought it was cute. I’m glad to see he moved it on to somebody that would like it. I’ve been watching the storms on TV and it must be terrifying to go through. There was a massive wind storm in Melbourne the other night that did a lot of damage and killed three people when trees crushed cars or when through roofs. Stay safe my friend. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Just great work. Was sort of hoping for a glimpse of the lathe work but entertaining none the less. Whats left of the hurricane is hitting us here in West Virginia right now. Gonna be a long night at the fire department I believe.
Because I work for the electric company, when these storms come our way my stomach drops too. It’s good for OT, but it interferes with your life and they have been all happening on weekends lately and before I know it, the summers going to be over and I miss out on the things everyone else takes for granted. I hope it fizzles out, honestly. This drill came out amazing! I assumed it would be rusted shut and useless! Who knew?
@@ScoutCrafter yeah I know what you mean, you can get some crazy people sometimes 😂 I just have 6 months for a Early retirement I can't take it anymore either 😂😂😂
Perhaps is a Jewelers drill for doing jeweling embellishment, as opposed to jewelry. Seems like the backrest would be unnecessary for such a small drill but would be needed for jeweling.
Alright "Flat Bastard", I've recommended this to you several times now, you should add another tool to your overflowing tool box and learn how to use electrolysis. Your little hand drill would have been a perfect candidate for a dip into an electrolysis bath, it would have done a much better job in all the little "nooks and crannies". It's very easy to set up in your basement (since you have your new air filter system). Time to learn a new craft ... scoutcrafter!
I have tried electrolysis before.. I see very little difference between all rust removal remedies. All of them require the same amount of clean-up after the treatment. 😃👍
Great job! I've got acetone and atf and would like to make up the 50-50 mix. Are there any special precautions to take? It looks like you keep the plastic spray bottle in a tin can. Also, do the two liquids mix together?
Rick- Super simple, just use a chemical resistant container and add 1/2 of each and shake up! Works awesome! Don’t fill up the container more then half way and shake before each use. 😃👍

John I love your videos, you’ve given me a new found respect for old tools and a new interest.
As well as jewelers, I believe those were sold to schools for children to use, back when such things were taught at a very young age.
I think that is the most elegant little drill I have ever seen.
What an outstanding turn around.
