No one did a tutorial like this before. Much appreciated! Also looking in doing this on my B7 (but i'm gonna use a CVBS). I see that you powered the camera from RNS's connector, others added a fuse and got the power wires transfered on the left side of the car. I don't know what approach should I make with this
Thanx. With CVBS might be complicated since it requires fuses and some converters if you are connecting it with RNS 315. I know it might be cheaper but also original VW used parts are not bad. Then you can directly connect everything. Laying can be done on both sides, since my control unit (for HIgh feature) is on the right side I chose that one.
Hi man, you heard correctly. Even sometimes vendors write compatible with OEM parts it's bullshit, you might use some android version of the display then connect camera. Often they come with RGB connector . Try getting OEM camera or simply switch to Android unit and then use whatever is available.
Yeah, if the flip camera cannot be installed, I will go with aftermarket Android display with canbus connection and indoor camera that sits on the path of washer fluid and wiper. This way snow will not get in my way.
my friend did that and was happy, the display even had more features, similar to the phone. he installed it just below the plates, resolution was not great but ok. i think he paid less than 100 Euros for everything
I used the screwdriver to make it loose a bit and the carpet knife to expand the hole. Then with the hard wire i went trough with camera wire attached (taped) to it. Other part of the camera wire was from the other side then taped back together. But the rubber part , duct, cannot be removed therefore I had to use the brute force to go trough it
@@fikovele I've been trying but that grommet won't budge! Also, there seems to be a hard plastic shell (and a second metal panel) behind it. I can't get my hand in to push from the other side. I wish you had video'd that part! The rest I can manage!
@@turbo_toni first de-attache the ribbed rubber cable duct using the screwdriver and some pincers from the slot as I did, you will see the cables inside. now they lead through the carbody via that metallic hole. Now use some hard wire to lead trough and that is the most difficult part to me, since you have to push hard making sure it does not bend. But the plastic plates you have to remove (rear part of the ceiling, backseat area) inside the car just imagine it is hidden below it. Try to identify the current cables where they enter and where they exit. Your hard wire should go in parallel. I don't know what is the metal panel you have there
So true bro, pity they're making it so complicated lately, just to make our times harder... Plus the parts will break for no good reason so you cannot put it back together

Aftermarket cameras are not easy to connect because of various incompatibilities. If you use such camera then android interface or display is more better solution.

Will this work on any Passat from 2012, 2013 and 2014 (those are the ones I'm looking into buying)?
it should be, assuming you are using the same (genuine) VW parts, since the laying itself is the same for all models. B7 is 2010-2015.
Hi . Is this a solution for the stock stereo that's coming with the car? Or is that an aftermarket one?
Hi i have installed rns315 prior this, stereo will not Help you here
where can i get an Origional Rversing camera for my 2011 Passat Highline? i keep finding similar ones but the don't have the same cables.
I got mine on ebay, but there is plenty of same or similar, mine camera itself is from t5 VW van.
I'm currently trying, but I can't find a way to get the wire from the head lining into the tailgate... Help!
that is the most difficult part actually but you will make it !
Hey mate, I have the original head unit, I was told I can’t retrofit a non VW reverse camera. Would this be possible ? And what would I need please ?

Anything different when installing on a American b7 Passat?
This I cannot tell, but I guess should be similar at least,, maybe some elements are on opposite sides. E.g cable could go along the drivers side
Passat b7 boot plastic is an absolute ball ache to remove. Already did once to fix rear washer pipe, never again

Normally 310 uses DVD for the navigation to run. I think no other major difference to 315. I guess it should
