0.5€ apple fees per sideloaded install is absolutely over the top and apples way to spite EUs ruling. I hope they get fined hard for that
on top of that, Indie devs don't even meet the requirements to begin with. What they call "sideloading" is an utterly joke. I hope they will be fined so immensely. We need a true F-Droid for iOS.

@@FarmYardGaming Who is seriously getting viruses on their Android phones that Android can't detect and quarantine from sideloading? Also they run in sandboxes with glandular control to permissions on both platforms. The argument of safety is total BS.
Apple is the most greedy company on the planet. Samsung sells more phones, tablets and slightly fewer PCs than Apple. Plus sells TVs, memory and household appliances but made only 2/3s of its profit last year. You would think after a law being passed they would comply.
@@FarmYardGamingwhen unity did it a lot of the gaming community was affected. Meanwhile how many people do you realistically know, that sideload apps or want to do it? On my part probably 90% of the people I know don't even know what side loading means

@@Redwan777i don’t see them removing USB-C because their is not a substitute to the port.
In fact it’s one of the key selling factors for their pro line up phones and they still make a ton of money from accessory manufacturers with it being there.
Even if they did get rid of the port in the future it can be assumed that by that point wireless and something else would exist to serve all the same functionality.
This is unacceptable. Apple must be sued for this. This is not what the EU has intended, they are effectively using any loophole they can find in the paper. This is not even remotely comparable to F-Droid on Android which was the true intention without putting a label onto it. With their "sideloading" there is no way I can develop and distribute an iOS app without throwing money into Apple's throat, yet alone the conditions cannot be met by any Indie dev anyways. I hope Apple has to pay big fines for what they are doing right now.

The DMA says that Apple must allow apps to be "accessed by means other than the core platform services of that gatekeeper." I hope that the EU considers Apple's software signing service to be a "core platform service" and at the very least requires that user's can enable third party signing services.
Yeah same thing with their USB-C (“Lightning Pro”) crap where they completely acted like spoilt brats in that they have gone as far as to limit transfer speeds probably just because it wasn‘t covered by EU law. Can’t imagine any regular iPhone user giving a damn shit about USB speeds. I mean my fucking Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from over 10 years ago already came equipped with USB 3.0.
Well.. one of the main reason why Apple earn about double amount of money like the Google Play store is because they are not allowing the sideloading (so no piracy there, and devs get the money for the download..), and keep in mind, Apple take the 15% or 30%, do devs will still earn 3-6x more.. if you wasn't that bad at the school, you can calculate which one is better.. based on 2020 data (so when every store had the same 30% cut off, not just Apple but Google, Steam, Playstation or even Microsoft/Xbox stores..) Apple store earned $72billion, Google store earned $38billion, Steam store earned $9billion and Playstation store earned $25 billion.. so Apple devs in Apple store earned the same like the all devs together in Google+Steam+Playstation store... (because this earning was the 30% cut off, so devs earned the remain 70%..). But if you don't like that, youcan go to the 3 different store, work 3x more to get the same revenue... (because that 3 platform has different core language, you can't just release the same code in each store.. so you must do the work 3 times, once for each language.. just for the same amount of "reacheable profit"..)

My theory for the great sales number of the S24 lineup is the promise of 7 year software support. That finally puts them on iPhone level after all these years.

Everybody I know with an Iphone changes it after maximum 4 years so I'm not sure that is a big factor for their sales.
@@MegaMrAndro In india it's show off , they think if they use iphone we will associate them as successful , I'll buy it when I'll have such range or need with cameras but there are some basic things i phone still don't fix (inability to pause a recording video , no side loading, no customizable at all here on Android we have icons, color changing themes) iphone pro- vedio quality

I don't think I can think of any way to make Apple's compliance more malicious. They are abiding by the letter of the law (probably), but not at all by the spirit of the law.
If the letter of the law doesn't match the spirit of the law, law makers failed at doing their job or at least like whatever lawyers double check the wording.
This might actually backfire, since while US courts usually goes by the letter of the law, European courts usually judge by the spirit of the law.

If the US Senate passes the bill, it goes directly to the President. It would only go through the courts (judges) if there was litigation.

Already almost all of the big global tech companies are US based. We don't know what access does the US govt. have to so much of intn'l population through these companies. But when a single intnl company gets acces to US users' data, it will just bully it down to also be owned by a US based enity. USA just wants all the access to everyone else's data and doesn't want to give off any of its own users' data.
I myself don't like companies getting so much of the user data and disable most of the tracking in the services I use. But if they do, I would rather have the data not be owned by/accessible to a single nation.

Well, other countries can do it too if they want, but they are not strong like USA or China. The strongest countries do what they want and you cant do much about it. Your country would do it too if it was strong enough

The cell phone sales numbers are so ridiculous. It's entirely a 3 year cycle for any one buyer. That means the entire industry will cycle flagships every 3 years and commoner models 2 years.
The issue was never the product, it was expecting everyone on earth to ditch phones every year like they used to. Nothing this highly engineered and expensive should be insufficient after a year like better.
I use Samsung S8 for 5 years now and I don't find a reason to change it. So I'm not sure what you are talking about here by saying flagships get inefficient in 3 years. You can sell yours in 3 years, it is like a mid-range model by that time, sure.

@@corey7219it _is_ an EU-only thing, though depending on how well sideloading goes in Europe, there could be other world govt’s wanting Apple to implement sideloading procedures in their countries too.
The browser engine was limited to only apple's webkit. The other browsers just put makeup over it.
I hope Apple gets sued massively for this. Somewhere along the line of 10 billion would put them in their place as that is roughly how much they would stand to make if they are allowed to go forth with this

Got a 10.4 +- 1.3 on low power mode on my 13th gen i5 laptop, 13.9 +-0.42 on the highest performance profile (massive boost to CPU performance) all whilst plugged in.
On my Xiaomi 13 Ultra (8 Gen 2) it is 4.67 +- 0.11 but I am using an old version of Chrome.
7:00 I doubt AI had much of anything to do with, at least not for the people I know. Bought s24+ (for me and my father) mainly due to the 7 year support promise and ok camera. Did not want s24 because it's too small, and did not want ultra because of it's shape. Did not get pixel because of battery/connectivity issues, and did not get iphone for reasons. Other brands in general have worse support, or other cons, so did not really even consider them. Haven't had any issues with my s24+ (exynos) so far at least. Bought my last phone in 2019, and would still have kept it, had the support not ended a while ago already.

Real sideloading is per definition out of the control of the OS manufacturer. Apple trying to dictate any guidelines at all is preposterous. I really hope that the EU will clarify that soon and slap Apple with an enormous fine if they don't fully comply.

RE, TikTok ban, I also think that Trump has a thread of self-preservation going too. I seriously think the law sets precedent for banning not just TikTok, but any social media app/company that isn't "good." In other words, all social media networks (including Truth Social) are potentially in the crosshairs of such a law as this.

I think an iPhone is very different from an Android smartphone. Apple produces everything, it is a closed system, and they have the right to do this as much as FIAT has the right to choose the battery that goes in their cars. Android on the other hand is an open source system, adopted by an entire industry, Google has no right to force Chrome or any other software under the manufacturers. The choice is in the hands of the user, those who want freedom choose Android, those who prefer Apple know its limitations and benefits.

Yes, definitely (this is true for any platform: Windows, Linux and MacOS).
(this is not different from the advice from Linux users to "just install software from the distro's repo to be safe". The difference is that you can ignore it on Linux)
The thing is, you need to verify authenticity and integrity of the apps you are downloading to make sure you get what you are getting and from you trust. --> The iOS store is essentially the middle man handling this
Sideloading might allow unverified apps from being installed (unverified as you didn't check integrity and authenticity).
Don't get me wrong, I would love to be able to sideload apps and I think this the first step into actually owning the hardware, but it certainly comes with risks.
