I just found you and I am loving your content. I am ADHD so love that you address planning with that in mind. This such a great message. I fell down the multiple planner and happy planner decorating rabbit hole big time a few years ago when I was trying to get better at planning. I love them and I want them all and I love how they look decorated with lots of pretty stickers. but I have found that decorating them just stresses me out because I need the perfect sticker for the purpose and then I dont do it all. then I feel like I cant use it because I have not decorated it. This year I have made a big switch to focusing on using my planner functionally. With occasionally using some stickers. This included stepping away from using Happy Planner and finding planners with a layout that works better for my purpose and also finding functional planners to follow on UA-cam rather than ones that make all the pretty decorated spreads. I need my planner to keep me on track first and foremost!! That is its purpose. 😊
I love this post soooo much!!!! YES!!! This!!!!!! This is why I started focusing on this in my videos because it is not discussed enough that the decorating and stickers is not helpful to everyone. Just because a content creator says it is the best to plan for THEM does NOT mean it is the best way to plan for YOU! I have had MANY seasons where I don't do stickers, at all. Because I didn't have time, didn't care, but I needed to PLAN and organize my life. I am SO glad you have figured out what is best for you, and are focusing on that! And Happy Planner is a tough one as far as like "all the pretty things," they are CONSTANTLY releasing new products and it's HARD to not want it ALL! I agree about watching content creators that align with your needs and not just watching all of what is on UA-cam because you feel like you "should." Not only that, but the planner community really only focuses on planning for neuro-typical brains and not so much for those of us that are more neuro-divergent...which makes it hard sometimes to recognize that it's okay for us to say "that doesn't work for me," vs. just believing what they say is "the way" to do it. Thank you so much for your thoughts!!!
I recently discovered your channel, and I'm really enjoying it. EXCELLENT advice and info in this one! One of my rules for buying planners is to wait until it goes on sale. If you're not fussy about buying a planner after its start date (which I'm not), you can get some great deals on sale and/or with a coupon. I've bought 12 month Happy Planners on clearance in Michaels in February/March, and 18 month planners in June/July for under $20. Planner companies and craft stores have sales all the time. FOMO is also a big thing in the planner community, and it's easy to get caught up in it. You don't have to buy all the things, and if you're willing to wait, you can score some great deals! I'm also glad that you mentioned undated planners. There's no guilt over "wasting" unused planner pages, because you can pick it right up where you left off. One of my favorite undated planners is the Passion Planner daily, which I use to journal or "back plan". They also usually have a GREAT sale on Pi Day, with planners selling for $3.14. What's not to like? 🙂
Oh yes, ALL of this!! I am so glad you mentioned sales! I was going to mention that and didn’t!! And YES on the undated planners AND re-dating planners to get them for much less!! I am in big agreement with you on all of this!! ✨ And welcome to my channel, so happy you are here!
Thank you so much for this video. I have been using a planner for most of my life. I recently found the “planner community” and started going down the rabbit hole. I was fortunate to be able to pull back. I like to see how everyone uses and decorates (I didn’t even know this was a thing🤣) there planners but in the end you are correct- I will do what works best for me. I am glad though I learned about decorating as my planner has to be functional do to do much going on but I always thought it was boring. Now I can make it fun.
Loved this video. Thank you so much! Yes to all of it. I have been in the planner community for awhile now and cannot tell you how many planners I've purchased because I got caught up in the moment, had FOMO, and them NEVER used. So, so many. The pure number actually discouraged me from using anything at all. I have stepped away for a bit and minimized, minimized, minimized and focused on what I needed and what actually works for me in my current season. I use the Makselife daily inserts (being discontinued and on sale now!) with notes pages, punched to go in my A5 junior discbound notebook. I am also using TeuxDeux as a master task list to capture all of the things from my daily notes and braindumps. I don’t see my way of doing it anywhere else, but it is perfect for me. It took me stepping back and thinking it through on my own to come to this planning solution. I love it. Thank you for making this video, sharing your insights, and for being so welcoming. **big, big hugs** 😊
Everything you say here is the EXACT reason I did this video! I think we need to be real about the FOMO and have some mindfulness about what we are actually doing with our planners! And it sounds like you have been super mindful about your planner line-up this year as well! Welcome to this channel, and BIG hugs to you as well!!! :-)
So much good info. I wish id gotten this a few yrs ago! I do have an HP planner but this yr i did add a new $10 planner from Amazon...the very busy planner...and LOVE it! Also, ive learned to wait 4 the HP spring release because i prefer colorful planners rather than neutral planners. The colorful things seem to come out in Spring for HP, Although they did put out a cute colorful Disney planner on Amazon a month ago.
I am so glad you found this helpful!! I wish I had known this information myself when I first started in the planner community myself, I get that!! It sounds like you know what is best for you and you, also, have more a strategy for making purchasing planners more affordable and so that they meet your needs! Yay!! 😊
This year I decided to make my own happy planner. Wow it wasn't as easy as I thought, and I managed to print it the wrong size but I had 3nough, discs and coveres I really didn't need to buy anything!
I’ve already got my 2 planners for 2024. It’s so hard to NOT buy all the other planners and accessories stuff I’ve been seeing recently 😂. Also, do you have a video on how you budget plan with ADHD? Just looking for what works for other people for inspiration.
Oh, it IS so hard not buy everything! It's the exact reason why I made this video! The content creators that get commission from planner companies do their jobs well to reel us in and give us FOMO, and we end up with more planners and planner accessories than we know what to do with! I have no problem with people spending a lot of money on this hobby - if this is your one hobby and you have the funds to spend money on it, then I encourage to have fun with it! But that's not the case for most of us! Also, yes, I have not posted a video for ADHD/Budgeting yet, but I plan to do that next weekend! You read my mind! :-) :-)

Yes, seriously…the planner community can give you serious FOMO, lol! Know what you NEED and stick to that!
I LOVED this advice. I agree with all of it. And I especially agree with the 'routine' part. :)
I am so glad you enjoyed this!! And seriously, the routine is key! I am glad to hear that is something that has been important to you as well! 😊
Great tips, thank you.
