Run out of internal USB ports? Here's a solution

- So If you've installed a bunch of RGB fans, an all in one cooler, RGB strips or RGB lighting power cables and now you've run out of USB ports on your motherboard? Then this is what to do.
There are splitters that you can buy which essentially easily let you connect multiple USB cables into a single USB port. So if you've only got one or two USB headers on your motherboard then it's not an issue.

underrated video, as a month ago I was looking for usb headers that are reliable. As some amazon reviews were bad or yanks the usb header from the motherboard pins off. I settled with a Aquacomputers HUBBY 7 - 7 possible usb ports with an if needed sata for extra power.
I think you've singled handedly resolved all of my lian li questions.

The MB header generally has two USB ports, one on each row, but accessories often block the whole header whilst using only one USB. You can merge two such cable connectors by prizing the metal contacts out of one and pushing them into the empty header holes in the other (or replace the 2x5 header shells with 1x5 or 1x4 shells. It puzzles me why there is a chip on the two-from-one circuit. A simple passive splitter should do the job, though a USB hub chip could give more than two.

The 2 available USB headers on my motherboard are 3.2. Are there internal USB splitters that support 3.2 ? Reason being is I need more that just 2.0 which is what the ones that are shown in this video.are rated for. Anyone ?

I never realized the Corsair AIO LCD display came with a splitter so I bought a 4 port one, and not that I need to buy can you daisy chain splitters? Can I run the 2 prong off the spare port on my 4 prong board?

I've got two of those double adapter headers. I have RGB hub plugged into one and it keeps disconnecting / shorting out a few minutes after booting. The hub used to show up in the software but isn't showing up at all anymore even prior to shorting out.
Just what I needed tks.
Can you daisy chain USB cables? I've got one which has a splitter with an additional USB plug but not sure if there could be any power drawer issues?

I personally would go with a sata powered hub. I read reviews for this one and it's hit or miss on working. Some mention it has bad solder joints or even missing pins. Seems a like a really cheap chip and some even say the motherboard doesn't recognize it at all or doesn't allow data to pass-through. Honestly after reading I settled with the corsair internal 4 port sata powered hub. For one it's corsair and for 2 it's enclosed so no worries. Only 10 bucks more then the 4 port version of this one
I added this card to my chart. But confused. Is that dangereus for motherboard? ( AIO+7fan+24pin+8pin power cable totaly three 9 pin USB.2.0 needed
NZXT have a usb head splitter for 4 extra ones + the main one that connects to your MB, currently using that and its amazing.
The only issue I had with that one is, if you have Lian Li RGB fans connected to a USB 2.0 port, it doesn't save your settings. Every startup is rainbow puke, until L-Connect is opened. If you are using the onboard USB 2.0 headers it will retain the settings. It is only when you are running through a USB 2.0 Hub that it loses them.

@@teedat I don’t use one. Each internal usb header on your motherboard can handle 2 devices, it says on your motherboard’s manual. Combine the wires to have 2 connections in 1. I can’t post a link here but just look up “how to get more usb 2.0 headers on motherboard trick”.
@@teedat there’s a trick for that. It’s hard to explain but there’s tutorials on UA-cam on how to combine internal usb connections.
A single USB 2.0 header has 9 pins… you only get a single connection from 4 wires. Which means, if you combine another 4 wires into the empty slots, you get 2 connections in 1 header. Just make sure to align the “5v” red wire and “GND” wire.
I recommend you take a look at “Internal USB 2.0 header pinout” image to get an idea. And also follow a tutorial on UA-cam.
I recently got a 1 to 5 splitter and in cam and masterplus, the hubs aren’t being recognized
I have a question for you. Lian Li states that the UNI TL series fans’ controller must be connected directly to the motherboard and not to use a splitter. Is this bs? I have a LianLi 011 Dynamic that uses 1 of 2 USB headers for it’s lighting (and maybe the ports idk) and the other header is being used by my pump/AIO, which ive heard is never a good idea to put on a splitter. I recently got some UNI fans and dont have a 3rd USB header just like this video describes but seemingly both the AIO and fan controller “need to be connected to the mobo directly”. Please help provide your experience with the truth here!!
i found what i thought was the lian li hub but it has an actual usb a, external connector instead of the usb 2.0 internal header connector.

Would it be ok if Lian li 3 to 1 connection but with the type c ending? I have the galahad II LCD, TL LCD fans and Sl infinity fans and I ran out of ports on my motherboard!!

I wouldn't do that. Just use the NZXT usb hub it has four connections on it.
hello i am a little late, but i recently ordered the h5 elite case it comes with 2 fans already pre-installed and i bought 1 fan extra for the case and a 2 fan AIO cooler. i am a little concerned now because i might now not have enough headers on my mobo (the asus rog b550-a) would i have enough? or would i have to purchase an nzxt port or something, thanks!

Hi Provoked Prawn, good to know about these UDB splitters, i may need to get one of them. Just wondering about the stability for these splitters but the Lian Li looks well build, i think NZXT has one splitter hub powered by SATA. Do u think a SATA powered hub is better? Or overkill? Thanks.
I have one splitter like in the video but with 4 ports and I have the NZXT one. The NZXT hub does everything flawlessly as you would expect but with the splitter some stuff I attached to it doesn’t work

I've not had any issues with unpowered ones, but I suppose it depends how many devices you're connecting to it.
@@TheProvokedPrawn not too sure yet, but planning about lian li 10 fans sl120 with controller, strimmer v2 for both 24 pin and thr gpu (3 x 8 pin), i also have a used nxzt z73 which requires 1 too, etc. So far thats all for now.

Word of advice, the Corsair internal usb hub will not allow you to change RGB settings on sl-inf 120 fans.
I'm going to buy the lian li splitter for all my lian li stuff...im stupid for not doing that in the first place 😂
