Stop preaching Malachi! It was not directed towards us but to the priests of those days who were not bringing the tithes and offerings brought to them. We are not under the law of tithing... ready Deuteronomy 14 and be set free. Listen to Jesus and give cheerfully but remember, you will reap on what you sow. $100 to me might be nothing but to another everything so we can't judge based on the amount. How blessed was the woman who gave two mites? Let's see what Jesus said, "And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
wrong...malachi was for the jews only and it was the priests who robbed god not the people...and not all the people tithed in the OT......tithing is not 10%..a. lie it is 23.5% and there were three tithes..only farmers and herdsman tithed......jesus never preached, received or taught tithing, nor did the apostles...…you are in a hole cause we spend more than what we make...simple....
promaster Jesus on tithing, Matt 23v23 & Luke 11v23 and the word tithe actually means 10%......, but then later Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 9 v7, effectively abolishing the tithe, instead, testing 1s heart towards God
what the tithe means is not what preachers teach......they ALL lie...ALL....there were 3 tithes totaling 23.5% and they never mention robbing on offerings and there were 5 of them.....the tithe was never money...never.....then there was the tithe cycle which was a 7 year term with the sixth yr double AND THE 7TH no TITHE..you never hear that one do you.....also then theres the tithe where God himself told the people where to stop and EAT their tithe and go buy some strong drink and wine and do as their heart lusted....its in the bible but preachers wanna put fear and guilt to collect money like morris and many others do.....when preachers like morris say god told them 10% they ALL lie cause why would god lie and cut himself short every time 13.5% and what the offerings were also added that they never mention how to repay that do they.....in timothy we are told to take care of our family first and then whatever we have left we determine according to our ability what we decide which is a heart decision...
you know I should make you go do your own homework and find them all like I had to do which took many months and a lot of reading to put it all together. but since I did write a book about such and it is published I have most together and can find it kinda easily...…first of all the tithe was always produce and animals therefore any other profession could not tithe such as a carpenter, stone mason or seamstress. you cant eat what they made or worked at. lev 27;30....deut 12;17, 14;23, neh 10;37...…The tithe really totaled about 23.5% on 4 different tithes with a 1/5th penalty if not done correctly. Then there’s a 7th year of no tithe. The tithe was only at harvest time not weekly. Or it could be once every 3 years depending on which tithe. There’s not one verse in the bible stating to tithe on monetary wages. Tithing was only done on what God himself gave the increase to which was only food products and things that were consumable as Deut 14 says the increase of thy seed from the land only not wages earned. Seeds produce from each other when wages produce nothing. Tithing was only of things that were able to reproduce like seeds, fruits, animals. The 4 tithes were the Levitical done yearly at harvest (law # 127) Numbers 18:21-26, the Festival done yearly at harvest (law # 128) Deut 14:23-26, the Poor tithe done every 3rd and 6th year only (law # 130) Deut 14:28-29, and the Priestly tithe done yearly and the only tithe to be brought to the storehouse (law # 129) Numbers 18: 24-32. The Festival tithe had God himself tell the people where to stop and eat the tithe and get some wine and/or strong drink and rejoice (have a party) and due whatever their heart (soul) desired. They probably got drunk because who would have a party and have one glass of wine. People who had crafts or skills could not tithe. One did not tithe, if that person was trading time for wages, because God could not give the increase on work done by man’s hands, but only by the work of his own hands can which gave the increase. Tithing always came from things produced from the land and were seed bearing or could reproduce such as livestock. Why don’t the preachers tell you there were 5 different offerings that were being misused and tell the people they are also robbing God of offerings. The 5 offerings are: Burnt offerings Lev 1:3-17, Grain offering Lev 2:2-14, Peace offering Lev 3, Sin offering Lev 4:2-3 & 4:20, Trespass offering Lev 5:15. So why do preachers omit offerings, when Malachi has said the priests were robbing in both tithes and offerings? How can tithes be a command and in the same sentence offerings become freewill when there’s no possible indication of such a meaning?. Offerings are inclusive and not excluded. “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lords. It is holy to the Lord. If a man wants to redeem any of his tithes, he shall add 1/5th to the tithe. Concerning the tithe of the herd or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, the 10th one shall be holy to the Lord. (Lev. 27: 30-32). The tithe was specifically directed to the “Land”, whether of the seed of the land or the fruit of the tree, and the animals which ate of the land. God never mentions any other profession such as fishing, mining, tent making, lumber, or any other occupation. The focus was on a 10th of the seed and fruit of the land. If a person wanted to pay money instead of the actual produce then they had to pay 20% more. Money was not ever what God was looking for or requiring. Regarding the animals, it was the 10th animal that passed under the rod which was tithed. If the person had less than ten animals they did not have to tithe. He could not give money instead of the actual animal. The laws centering on the first fruits and first born are different from the laws around the tithe. For firstlings we have Numbers 3:12, 40-45, 8:16-18. For the first fruits we have Lev. 23:10-14, Num 18:12-28. If we again begin to return to the Mosaic laws dealing with trying to get something out of God’s people, then why not do all of them? Let us go back to slaughtering lambs and killing rebellious children. Remember that he who fails in one point of the Mosiac law is guilty of ALL Tithing varied from year to year. Some scholars say that the 7th year sabbatical period, the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th year tithe payer could eat the tithe at the temple with the Levites. In the 3rd and 6th year the tithe payers tithe stayed at home. Tithes were also for the fatherless, stranger and widows, Levites included. The 7th year there was to be no planting (no tithing). Lev. 25:1-7. So when was the last time the people got a free year off from tithing? The Levites (pastors) did not live completely off the tithe. They ministered in the temple only twice a year for a week at a time. 99Ex.23:14-17, Lev 23, Deut 16:16). They were also allotted land around the cities they were centered in. Num 35:4. These fields then belonged to the Levites for a perpetual possession. Lev 25:34. The giving of the tithe (tenth) under the Law Covenant is thus fulfilled in the higher, greater and grander arrangement that God through Jesus gave to Christians-the full consecration or dedication of all. The compulsory tithing arrangement was for the house of servants, but it is not what God has arranged for the house of sons. The Scriptures do not, nor do we say anything against Christians giving 10% of their income to further God's work, if this is the amount they have available after meeting proper obligations. Many have been blessed richly and will continue to be blessed greatly by tithing; but the giving of this 10% should not be regarded as compulsory for Christians. All giving should be voluntary. And we are not to regard 10% as God's and 90% as belonging to us. Rather, we are to regard the whole 100% as belonging to God and that after providing for ourselves and our dependents, we are to use whatever portion we can, whether more than 10%, or even less, to further His work on earth. This giving should be joyful (2 Cor. 8:2; 9:7). Some look on their tithing, including tithing they consider as compulsory, as a form of "insurance" with God, and attribute their measure of material prosperity, good health and success to it. Such a viewpoint was justifiable for the Jewish nation under the Law Covenant, who were promised abundance and national prosperity if they kept God's laws (Lev. 26:1-13; Deut. 5:29-33; 29:9; Josh. 1:7; Prov. 3:9, 10). But we who are under grace, and not under the Law Covenant (Rom. 6:14, 15), are not guaranteed material prosperity, good health and success, no matter how great our faithfulness to God (John 15:18, 19; 16:33; 17:14; Acts 14:22; 2 Tim. 2:12; 3:12). JOHN WESLEY'S GIVING John Wesley, with a regular income of 30 pounds, used only 28 pounds for his own upkeep and used two to further God's work; and when his income was raised to 60 pounds and finally to 120 pounds, he still used only 28 and used the rest in the Lord's work. The consecrated, or dedicated Christian does not think about how much he or she is required to give, and how much can be kept, but rather about how much can be given of money, as well as of time, talents, influence, other possessions, etc., to further God's interests. God really desires not just the giving of 10% or more or less of our income, but our full consecration, our full dedication, the giving of ourselves, our little human all. One can give 25% or 50%, or even up to almost 100% of his income, but if he does not dedicate his heart, mind and will to God and be faithful, it will not gain him an entrance into eternal life in God's Kingdom. Because of family obligations and other obligations, some may not be able to give much of their time, talents and influence directly to serving God's interests, but can serve mainly by giving money. God expects each one to be a good steward, according to his ability (Matt. 25:15). Jesus evidently did not expect the rich young ruler to immediately sell all he had, and give the proceeds promptly and indiscriminately to the poor in earthly possessions, and become a pauper. If the young ruler had fully consecrated and had become Jesus' disciple (Matt. 16:24), He would doubtless have given him further instruction as to the wise disposition of the wealth in his stewardship. Jesus and His disciples were doubtless given money from time to time by those they served, and had a treasurer (John 12:5, 6; comp. John 6:5-7), so were not penniless beggars. Manifestly, Jesus wanted those who would be His disciples to dedicate, or consecrate themselves to God, to give to God their minds, hearts and wills, as He did (Heb. 10:7-9). He realized that God sought them, not their possessions. "My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways" (Prov. 23:26; comp. 2 Cor. 8:5; 12:14). He knew that if the minds, hearts and wills are truly given, then all is given, dedicated, consecrated, to God, and this means 100%.
The false teaching ignores all other tithes and focuses on an incorrect interpretation of the first religious tithe. (1) The first religious tithe, called the Levitical tithe, had two parts. Again, the whole first tithe was given to the Levites who were only servants to the priests (Num 18:21-24; Neh 10:37b). The Levites, in turn, gave one tenth of the whole tithe to the priests (Num 18:25-28; Neh 10:38). (2) According to Deuteronomy 12 and 14, the second religious tithe, called the feast tithe, was eaten by worshipers in the streets of Jerusalem during the three yearly festivals (Deu 12:1-19; 14:22-26). (3) And, according to Deuteronomy 14 and 26, a third tithe, called the poor tithe, was kept in the towns every third year to feed the poor (Deu 14:28, 29; 26:12, 13). (4) Also, according to First Samuel 8:14-17, the ruler collected the first and best ten per cent for political use. During Jesus’ time Rome collected the first ten per cent (10%) of most food and twenty per cent (20%) of fruit crops as its spoils of war. It is dishonest to single out the one religious tithe and ignore the other two important religious tithes. First-Fruits Are Not The Same As Tithes The false assumption is that tithes are first-fruits. The first-fruit was a very small token amount of the first crop harvest and the first-born was the first offspring of animals. First-fruits and first-born could only come from inside God’s holy land of Israel. The first-fruit was small enough to fit into a hand-held basket (Deu 26:1-10; Lev 23:17; Num 18:13-17; Neh 12:44; 2 Chron 31:5a). First-fruits and first-born offerings went directly to the Temple and were required to be totally consumed by ministering priests only inside the Temple (Neh 10:35-37a; Ex 23:19; 34:26; Deu 18:4). The whole Levitical tithe went first to the Levitical cities and portions went to the Temple to feed both Levites and priests who were ministering there in rotation (Neh 10:37b-39; 12:27-29, 44-47; Num 18:21-28; 2 Chron 31:5b). While the Levites ate only the tithe, the priests could also eat from the first-fruits, first-born offerings and other offerings. The false teaching about tithes from Malachi 3 ignores important Biblical facts. A. Context: Malachi is Old Covenant and is never quoted in the New Covenant to validate tithing (Lev 27:34; Neh 10:28-29; Mal 3:7; 4:4). B. Context: In Malachi 3:10-11 tithes are still only food 1000 years after Leviticus 27. C. Law: Malachi’s audience had willingly reaffirmed the Old Covenant (Neh 10:28-29). The blessings and curses of tithing are identical to and inseparable from those of the entire Mosaic Law. The rain in Deuteronomy 28:12, 23-24 and Leviticus 26:1-4 is only obtained by obedience to all 600+ commandments. Galatians 3:10 (quoting Deu 27:26) “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” Trying to earn God’s blessings through tithing only brought curses for failure to keep all of the law. See also Galatians 3:19. D. Priest-Thieves: Beginning in 1:6 “you” in Malachi always refers to the dishonest priests and not the people (also 2:1-10; 2:13 to 3:1-5): “Even this whole nation of you-priests” (3:9). In 1:13-14 the priests had stolen tithed animals vowed to God. In Nehemiah 13:5-10 priests had stolen the Levites’ portion of the tithe. God’s curses on the priests are ignored by most tithe-teachers (1:14; 2:2 and 3:2-4). E. Levitical Cities: The Levitical cities must be included in a correct interpretation of Malachi 3:10 and they are not. Most tithe-recipients (98%) lived outside of Jerusalem. F. Twenty-Four Courses: The 24 courses of Levites and priests must be included in a correct interpretation of Malachi 3 and they are not. Normally only 2% of the total Levite and priest work force served at the temple one week at a time. Subtract wives, males under the age of 30 and daughters. Therefore 2% did not require all the tithe. See 1 Chron 23-26; see also 28:13, 21; 2 Chron 8:14; 23:8; 31:2, 15-19; 35:4, 5, 10; Ezra 6:18; Neh 11:19, 30; 12:24; 13:9, 10; Luke 1:5. G. Nehemiah 10:37b-39 is the key to understanding Malachi 3:10. The people were commanded to bring their tithes, not to the temple, but to the nearby Levitical cities. Verse 38 says that the priests were with the Levites in the Levitical cities when they received the tithes. H. Storehouse: According to Nehemiah 13:5, 9 the “storehouse” in the Temple was only several rooms. The real “storehouses” were in the Levitical cites per Nehemiah 10:37b. Only the Levites and priests normally brought tithes to the Temple (10:38). Two rooms in the Temple were far too small to contain the tithe from the entire nation and 98% of the Levites and priests lived too far away to eat from them (1 Kg 6:6). Therefore, Malachi 3:10’s “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse” only makes contextual sense if it is only commanding dishonest priests to replace the tithes they had removed from it or had failed to bring to it. While the 3:10 of the Law in Malachi is so important to tithe-teachers they ignore the 3:10 of the Gospel in Galatians and 2nd Corinthians. Perhaps those wanting to enforce the 3:10 Law of Malachi should also enforce the 3:10 Law of Numbers. They share the same context.
yeah... and Pastors and preachers need to stop telling people to use their credit card to order more product...... NO Offence Jimmy Evans intended... But More than Half the T.V. Evangelist do that.....Primarily TBN ...... I Don,t Like TBN anymore... I Refuse to watch it..... Or Day Star...
God doesent need to give you money when he can use people with money to bless you. and when God blesses you? you are set up for having something nice in your life that will last along time. and Gods blessing no amounts of money can put value on his blessing. but he doesent ask or money? are you sure? i think the bible sais we should give 10% of our cash to the lord.. when we give, we get.. if you dont wanna share, dont expect to ever receive. if no1 ever give to the lord, where would God have resourcess to bless people? i know money isnt evrything. and God doesent need money to bless people. but in many situations today money is a resourc people need very badly. and if you give 10% of your income evry month to Jesus Christ, you are making sure that some people out there is gonna have a blessed day. then again. you would have to trust some folks. because some churches may deal with corrupt stuff and take money from people, not to serve Jesus, but to serve themselfs. they are stealing from Jesus so they may habe a nice meal for dinners while others struggle like hell and could have alot more use for that amount of cash. so if you wanna give to Jesus, i think its easier to handle that business if you wanna personally bless some people in jesus name with some amounts of cash
That is not true him saying because you tithe that your dryer and shoes will last longer. That is a lie. I tithed for years and i know first hand thats a lie. Ive known ppl that tithed 20 years and they lack more than most ppl around them. I wish ppl preached the truth instead of these phony sermons.
I've know people that send money to some organization on tv and let their own kids end up dying for lack of medical care that was within their means to pay for !!!

what the tithe means is not what preachers teach......they ALL lie...ALL....there were 3 tithes totaling 23.5% and they never mention robbing on offerings and there were 5 of them.....the tithe was never money...never.....then there was the tithe cycle which was a 7 year term with the sixth yr double AND THE 7TH no TITHE..you never hear that one do you.....also then theres the tithe where God himself told the people where to stop and EAT their tithe and go buy some strong drink and wine and do as their heart lusted....its in the bible but preachers wanna put fear and guilt to collect money like morris and many others do.....when preachers like morris say god told them 10% they ALL lie cause why would god lie and cut himself short every time 13.5% and what the offerings were also added that they never mention how to repay that do they.....in timothy we are told to take care of our family first and then whatever we have left we determine according to our ability what we decide which is a heart decision...
promaster where’s the bible verses to back your points up....
you know I should make you go do your own homework and find them all like I had to do which took many months and a lot of reading to put it all together. but since I did write a book about such and it is published I have most together and can find it kinda easily...…first of all the tithe was always produce and animals therefore any other profession could not tithe such as a carpenter, stone mason or seamstress. you cant eat what they made or worked at. lev 27;30....deut 12;17, 14;23, neh 10;37...…The
tithe really totaled about 23.5% on 4 different tithes with a 1/5th
penalty if not done correctly. Then there’s a 7th year of no tithe.
The tithe was only at harvest time not weekly. Or it could be once every 3 years
depending on which tithe. There’s not one verse in the bible stating to tithe
on monetary wages. Tithing was only done on what God himself gave the increase
to which was only food products and things that were consumable as Deut 14 says
the increase of thy seed from the land only not wages earned. Seeds produce from
each other when wages produce nothing. Tithing was only of things that were
able to reproduce like seeds, fruits, animals. The 4 tithes were the Levitical done yearly at harvest (law #
127) Numbers 18:21-26, the Festival
done yearly at harvest (law # 128) Deut 14:23-26, the Poor tithe done every 3rd and 6th year only
(law # 130) Deut 14:28-29, and the Priestly
tithe done yearly and the only tithe to be brought to the storehouse (law #
129) Numbers 18: 24-32. The Festival
tithe had God himself tell the people where to stop and eat the tithe and get
some wine and/or strong drink and rejoice (have a party) and due whatever their
heart (soul) desired. They probably got drunk because who would have a party
and have one glass of wine. People who had crafts or skills could not tithe. One
did not tithe, if that person was trading time for wages, because God could not
give the increase on work done by man’s hands, but only by the work of his own hands
can which gave the increase. Tithing always came from things produced from the
land and were seed bearing or could reproduce such as livestock. Why don’t the preachers tell you there were 5
different offerings that were being misused and tell the people they are also
robbing God of offerings. The 5 offerings are: Burnt offerings Lev 1:3-17, Grain offering Lev 2:2-14, Peace
offering Lev 3, Sin offering Lev 4:2-3 & 4:20,
Trespass offering Lev 5:15.
So why do preachers omit offerings, when Malachi has said the priests were
robbing in both tithes and offerings? How can tithes be a command and in the same
sentence offerings become freewill when there’s no possible indication of such a meaning?. Offerings are
inclusive and not excluded.
“And
all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of
the tree, is the Lords. It is holy to the Lord. If a man wants to redeem any of
his tithes, he shall add 1/5th to the tithe. Concerning the tithe of
the herd or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, the 10th
one shall be holy to the Lord. (Lev. 27: 30-32). The tithe was specifically directed
to the “Land”, whether of the seed of the land or the fruit of the tree, and
the animals which ate of the land. God never mentions any other profession such
as fishing, mining, tent making, lumber, or any other occupation. The focus was
on a 10th of the seed and fruit of the land. If a person wanted to
pay money instead of the actual produce then they had to pay 20% more. Money
was not ever what God was looking for or requiring. Regarding the animals, it
was the 10th animal that passed under the rod which was tithed. If
the person had less than ten animals they did not have to tithe. He could not
give money instead of the actual animal.
The laws centering on the first fruits and first
born are different from the laws around the tithe. For firstlings we have
Numbers 3:12, 40-45, 8:16-18.
For the first fruits we have Lev.
23:10-14, Num 18:12-28. If we again begin to return to the Mosaic
laws dealing with trying to get something out of God’s people, then why not do
all of them? Let us go back to slaughtering lambs and killing rebellious
children. Remember that he who fails in one point of the Mosiac law is guilty
of ALL
Tithing
varied from year to year. Some scholars say that the 7th year
sabbatical period, the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th
year tithe payer could eat the tithe at the temple with the Levites. In the 3rd
and 6th year the tithe payers tithe stayed at home. Tithes were also
for the fatherless, stranger and widows, Levites included. The 7th
year there was to be no planting (no tithing). Lev. 25:1-7. So when was the last
time the people got a free year off from tithing?
The
Levites (pastors) did not live completely off the tithe. They ministered in the
temple only twice a year for a week at a time. 99Ex.23:14-17, Lev 23,
Deut 16:16). They were also allotted land around the cities they were
centered in. Num 35:4. These fields then belonged to the Levites for
a perpetual possession. Lev 25:34.
The giving of the tithe
(tenth) under the Law Covenant is thus fulfilled in the higher, greater and
grander arrangement that God through Jesus gave to Christians-the full consecration or dedication of all.
The compulsory tithing
arrangement was for the house of servants, but it is not what God has arranged
for the house of sons. The Scriptures do not, nor do we say anything against
Christians giving 10% of their income to further God's work, if this is the
amount they have available after meeting proper obligations. Many have been
blessed richly and will continue to be blessed greatly by tithing; but the
giving of this 10% should not be regarded as compulsory for Christians.
All giving should be voluntary. And we are not to regard 10% as God's
and 90% as belonging to us. Rather, we are to regard the whole 100% as
belonging to God and that after providing for ourselves and our dependents, we
are to use whatever portion we can, whether more than 10%, or even less, to
further His work on earth. This giving should be joyful (2 Cor. 8:2; 9:7).
Some look on their tithing, including tithing they consider as compulsory, as a
form of "insurance" with God, and attribute their measure of material
prosperity, good health and success to it. Such a viewpoint was justifiable for
the Jewish nation under the Law Covenant, who were promised abundance and
national prosperity if they kept God's laws (Lev. 26:1-13; Deut. 5:29-33; 29:9; Josh. 1:7; Prov. 3:9, 10). But we who are under
grace, and not under the Law Covenant (Rom. 6:14, 15), are not guaranteed
material prosperity, good health and success, no matter how great our faithfulness
to God (John 15:18, 19; 16:33; 17:14; Acts 14:22; 2 Tim. 2:12; 3:12).
JOHN WESLEY'S GIVING
John Wesley, with a regular income of 30 pounds, used only 28 pounds for his
own upkeep and used two to further God's work; and when his income was raised
to 60 pounds and finally to 120 pounds, he still used only 28 and used the rest
in the Lord's work. The consecrated, or dedicated Christian does not think
about how much he or she is required to give, and how much can be kept,
but rather about how much can be given of money, as well as of time,
talents, influence, other possessions, etc., to further God's interests.
God really desires not just the giving of 10% or more or less of our income,
but our full consecration, our full dedication, the
giving of ourselves, our little human all. One can give 25% or 50%, or
even up to almost 100% of his income, but if he does not dedicate his heart,
mind and will to God and be faithful, it will not gain him an entrance into
eternal life in God's Kingdom. Because of family obligations and other
obligations, some may not be able to give much of their time, talents and
influence directly to serving God's interests, but can serve mainly by giving
money. God expects each one to be a good steward, according to his ability (Matt. 25:15).
Jesus evidently did not expect the rich young ruler to immediately sell all he
had, and give the proceeds promptly and indiscriminately to the poor in earthly
possessions, and become a pauper. If the young ruler had fully consecrated and
had become Jesus' disciple (Matt. 16:24), He would doubtless
have given him further instruction as to the wise disposition of the wealth in
his stewardship. Jesus and His disciples were doubtless given money from time
to time by those they served, and had a treasurer (John 12:5, 6; comp. John 6:5-7), so were not
penniless beggars.
Manifestly, Jesus wanted those who would be His disciples to dedicate, or
consecrate themselves to God, to give to God their minds, hearts and wills, as
He did (Heb. 10:7-9). He realized that
God sought them, not their possessions. "My son, give me thine
heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways" (Prov. 23:26; comp. 2 Cor. 8:5; 12:14). He knew that if the
minds, hearts and wills are truly given, then all is given, dedicated,
consecrated, to God, and this means 100%.
The false
teaching ignores all other tithes and focuses on an incorrect interpretation of
the first religious tithe.
(1) The first religious tithe, called the Levitical tithe, had two parts.
Again, the whole first tithe was given to the Levites who were only servants to
the priests (Num 18:21-24; Neh 10:37b). The Levites, in turn, gave one tenth of
the whole tithe to the priests (Num 18:25-28; Neh 10:38). (2) According to
Deuteronomy 12 and 14, the second religious tithe, called the feast tithe, was
eaten by worshipers in the streets of Jerusalem during the three yearly
festivals (Deu 12:1-19; 14:22-26). (3) And, according to Deuteronomy 14 and 26,
a third tithe, called the poor tithe, was kept in the towns every third year to
feed the poor (Deu 14:28, 29; 26:12, 13). (4) Also, according to First Samuel
8:14-17, the ruler collected the first and best ten per cent for political use.
During Jesus’ time Rome collected the first ten per cent (10%) of most food and
twenty per cent (20%) of fruit crops as its spoils of war. It is dishonest to
single out the one religious tithe and ignore the other two important religious
tithes.
First-Fruits Are Not The
Same As Tithes
The false
assumption is that tithes are first-fruits.
The first-fruit was a very small token amount of the first crop harvest and the
first-born was the first offspring of animals. First-fruits and first-born
could only come from inside God’s holy land of Israel.
The first-fruit was small enough to fit into a hand-held basket (Deu 26:1-10;
Lev 23:17; Num 18:13-17; Neh 12:44; 2 Chron 31:5a).
First-fruits and first-born offerings went directly to the Temple and were
required to be totally consumed by ministering priests only inside the Temple
(Neh 10:35-37a; Ex 23:19; 34:26; Deu 18:4).
The whole Levitical tithe went first to the Levitical cities and portions went
to the Temple to feed both Levites and priests who were ministering there in
rotation (Neh 10:37b-39; 12:27-29, 44-47; Num 18:21-28; 2 Chron 31:5b). While
the Levites ate only the tithe, the priests could also eat from the
first-fruits, first-born offerings and other offerings.
The false
teaching about tithes from Malachi 3 ignores important Biblical facts.
A. Context: Malachi is Old Covenant and is never quoted in the New Covenant to
validate tithing (Lev 27:34; Neh 10:28-29; Mal 3:7; 4:4).
B. Context: In Malachi 3:10-11 tithes are still only food 1000 years after
Leviticus 27.
C. Law: Malachi’s audience had willingly reaffirmed the Old Covenant (Neh
10:28-29). The blessings and curses of tithing are identical to and inseparable
from those of the entire Mosaic Law. The rain in Deuteronomy 28:12, 23-24 and
Leviticus 26:1-4 is only obtained by obedience to all 600+ commandments.
Galatians 3:10 (quoting Deu 27:26) “For as many as are of the works of the law
are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continues not
in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” Trying to
earn God’s blessings through tithing only brought curses for failure to keep
all of the law. See also Galatians 3:19.
D. Priest-Thieves: Beginning in 1:6 “you” in Malachi always refers to the
dishonest priests and not the people (also 2:1-10; 2:13 to 3:1-5): “Even this
whole nation of you-priests” (3:9).
In 1:13-14 the priests had stolen tithed animals vowed to God. In Nehemiah
13:5-10 priests had stolen the Levites’ portion of the tithe. God’s curses on
the priests are ignored by most tithe-teachers (1:14; 2:2 and 3:2-4).
E. Levitical Cities: The Levitical cities must be included in a correct interpretation
of Malachi 3:10 and they are not. Most tithe-recipients (98%) lived outside of
Jerusalem.
F. Twenty-Four Courses: The 24 courses of Levites and priests must be included
in a correct interpretation of Malachi 3 and they are not. Normally only 2% of
the total Levite and priest work force served at the temple one week at a time.
Subtract wives, males under the age of 30 and daughters. Therefore 2% did not
require all the tithe. See 1 Chron 23-26; see also 28:13, 21; 2 Chron 8:14;
23:8; 31:2, 15-19; 35:4, 5, 10; Ezra 6:18; Neh 11:19, 30; 12:24; 13:9, 10; Luke
1:5.
G. Nehemiah 10:37b-39 is the key to understanding Malachi 3:10. The people were
commanded to bring their tithes, not to the temple, but to the nearby Levitical
cities. Verse 38 says that the priests were with the Levites in the Levitical
cities when they received the tithes.
H. Storehouse: According to Nehemiah 13:5, 9 the “storehouse” in the Temple was
only several rooms. The real “storehouses” were in the Levitical cites per
Nehemiah 10:37b. Only the Levites and priests normally brought tithes to the
Temple (10:38). Two rooms in the Temple were far too small to contain the tithe
from the entire nation and 98% of the Levites and priests lived too far away to
eat from them (1 Kg 6:6).
Therefore, Malachi 3:10’s “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse” only
makes contextual sense if it is only commanding dishonest priests to replace
the tithes they had removed from it or had failed to bring to it.
While the 3:10 of the Law in Malachi is so important to tithe-teachers they
ignore the 3:10 of the Gospel in Galatians and 2nd Corinthians. Perhaps those
wanting to enforce the 3:10 Law of Malachi should also enforce the 3:10 Law of
Numbers. They share the same context.
So many preachers are rich but members are poor...
The ones who preach on tithing the most are the richest ones !!!
Why In the World would you by ANY chance think that you want others to think that you have more money than they think?
I don't understand.
Very true credit cards are definitely from the enemy.
yeah... and Pastors and preachers need to stop telling people to use their credit card to order more product...... NO Offence Jimmy Evans intended... But More than Half the T.V. Evangelist do that.....Primarily TBN ...... I Don,t Like TBN anymore... I Refuse to watch it..... Or Day Star...
I know God because of him giving to me
. not me giving to anyone
God does not give money. Reap what you sow. Sowing is working. You reap benefits from that.. GOD DOES NOT ASK FOR MONEY
Ah man. God can take care of you without a job. Really he does not even want you to make your job your source.
It’s very great but the salesmanship at the end ruined it
yeah...….you spend less than what you make.....brilliant....
