I am fairly certain that the reason why Albedo agreed so quickly to stepping down if Ainz fails, isn't because she isn't blindingly confident he will win, but because if he loses, it means he will have died, and if he dies, Albedo wouldn't want to continue living herself. So, fighting to keep her job would be like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

the Goal of all life is Death :it causes the next cast instant death magic to ignore all Death resistances after 12(13?) second delay. and the spell he casted was Cry of the Banshee that skills everything in range which he extended with the Meta magic modifier of Widen magic. so everything in raged died, included the very air and earth around him making it a desert.

I don't think it is mentioned explicitly, but I presume that the Widen Magic (Feat? Metamagic? Skill?) Was so that Cry of the Banshee's range extended further than Shalltear could feasibly outrun Ainz in 12 seconds, forcing her into focusing on attacking Ainz as her only viable option: Trying to disable him before the timer ran out.

This is prob one of the few times that you cant puzzle out a spell combo's intent with a bit of head thinking - I mean triple magic? A triple cast obviously.

    • @Scarabswarm
      @Scarabswarm 2 місяці тому

@heysulfuric2372 I agree. The name of the skill only really makes sense in hindsight. The goal of ALL life is death; i.e. Constructs and undead are a form of life, and they can die, too. So suck on this death effect spell despite your supposed immunity.
And Wail of the Banshee is a D&D spell of similar effect, based on the legend that hearing a banshee's cry up close is lethal. But unless they know D&D spells or old world folklore, a viewer likely wouldn't be able to quickly guess that one on the fly either.
Same with some others like Body of Effulgent Beryl, whose effect is either wholly unrelated to the name or is incredibly obscure or esoteric. Broken down, it possibly becomes "Body of shiny gemstone associated with protection," but that is my best guess only after seeing it activate, rather than an understanding based on name alone. (Mainly because crystal woo-peddlers describe every gemstone in completely different and self-contadictory terms from one another, and there is very little "consensus" on what anything "means.")

Before killing her, Ainz hesitated for a moment, that's when the eye appears behind Shalltear, it was Aura, pretty much casting aggro on her from adistance, giving Ainz just the couple of seconds necessary to release the spell. That's why before dying she says "shorty", that's what she calls Aura.

    Episode 013
As I mentioned in the previous comment, Ainz's entire battle was based on the strategy of killing Shalltear twice, because she had a resurrection item. Furthermore, he had to make her recklessly spend all those unique “Skills” that could have saved her if she had saved them until the end. Before the climax of the battle Ainz only has enough mana left to cast 3 or maybe 4 spells and so Shalltear thought that she had already won, but they quickly changed things to something to do with the Yggdrassil game.
When one created a character and then wanted to change it, he could only lose several battles and levels to rebuild the parts he wanted or directly create a new account. All of this was extremely tedious for level 100 players who had become mages and wanted to try out the warrior class for a while, but only for a short time. The "Perfect Warrior" spell was a solution to that problem. Allows you to convert all mage levels to the warrior class and use equipment that you would not normally be able to use. When Ainz wears it, he can use TouchMe's armor without problems, although he cannot use any other magic in return while his spell is activated.
For this battle Ainz used many Cash Items, more than ever in his entire life. Each of the sticks he broke allowed him to automatically store and equip his teammates' weapons. Especially the bow was what surprised Shalltear the most, because it is the favorite weapon of her creator. Finally, the hourglass that Ainz breaks is a Cash Item that reduces the casting time of Super Tier magic to 0.
At the end there is a strange phenomenon where Shalltear sees something like an eye on her back. To explain this I have to go back to the beginning of chapter 1, where they explain Aura Bella Fiora's abilities in the light novel. The dark elf's breath can cause various effects, most notably fear. Aura can use her breath at great distances to terrify others, especially creatures in order to tame them. Naturally a vampire like Shalltear has resistance to these effects, but she probably doesn't have complete immunity. Therefore, instead of fear, what she feels is that there is "something dangerous" behind her and thus she is distracted long enough for Ainz to finish breaking his last Cash Item. We see a very small fragment in which Aura is exhaling a kind of purple wind, which is precisely her Fear ability, the same one that we saw Aura use against Hamusuke to provoke her in chapter 7.
Resurrection magic is performed using spells or wands. In players, the penalty for reviving was losing some levels. But the NPCs are not players and can be resurrected with money, lots and lots of money which scales with the level of the NPC (i think) and Shalltear as well as the other guardians is level 100. Good thing Ainz decided to save it! Well, that would be it.
In the final scene we see that those who cast the mind control spell on Shalltear were the elite force of the Slane Theocracy. For this they used the World Item "Downfall of Castle and Country" which was the Chinese-type dress worn by the old lady. Its shape refers to how a really beautiful woman can make even a country fall, like Helen in Trojan war.
Now, the question is: what was the Slane Theocracy doing there? Well, in reality, they were heading towards a powerful dragon to try to control it and use it as a weapon. It was pure coincidence that Shalltear met them.
And now they're in trouble: The Theocracy has 6 elite groups known as "Scriptures", each dealing with different types of missions. The most powerful of their squads, the "black script", has lost Clementine (who defected and get killed) and now the elder lady Kaire, who was assassinated by Shalltaer at the same time she placed the mind control. And the "Sunlight Escript", who specialized in killing demihumans, were exterminated by Ainz in chapter 4. So we could say that the Theocracy has lost enough of its strength.
Finally, in the last dialogue, Ainz reveals the names of the 2 floor guardians that we still don't know: Gargantua and Victim. I won't say anything about them so as not to spoil, but there's a good reason why Ainz didn't call them to his side on the day he arrived in the New World.
Overlord is a series that only gets better also with every rewatch!

    Episode 012
Wow, there is so much to tell about this epic battle, which is only fully understood in light of the novels! But I think you've noticed how special it is. For years, anime have tried to represent combat that follows the logic of a video game, like Sword Art Online for example, but this is the first one I've seen that actually follows the reasoning of one.
This entire battle was designed keeping in mind that Shalltear had to be killed twice because her creator, Peroronchino, had given her an Instant Resurrection Item, which luckily doesn't also restore mana. That is why we see her intact at the end of the chapter.
From the beginning Ainz had many disadvantages. To begin with, his game character was not designed for PVP matches but mainly for his own entertainment and Roleplay. In League of Legends terms he would be a “Support” who can also play as a “Semi-Carry” so something similar to "Brand" i guess. Instead, Shalltear is a pure “Carry” designed for combat against many players. After all, She is the only one in charge of defending not 1 but 3 floors and the strongest of all the Guardians. Also, as a vampire, Shalltear is quite resistant to Ainz's necromancy, but she can also do holy magic that is quite effective against Undead. I clarify that in the Ygdrassil LORE that is based on Dungeons & Dragons there are good and bad gods. Shalltear gains her abilities as a priestess of a vampire god named Caniabel.
Then there is the problem that Ainz is a summoner and his best combos are with creatures he can use as a shield. But since Shalltear has that life-sucking spear, he can't risk using them because it would be like feeding her. Also, Yggdrasil's gameplay mechanics were designed in such a way that a player could never fully protect themselves from all of its weaknesses. Ainz is weak against fire and holy element, but can only protect against one.
As if that wasn't enough, Shalltear's creator gave her some "Skills" that precisely help her with her main weaknesses, such as the Negative Impact Shield or the Purifying Spear. These are not powers that she should naturaly have and they help her to overcome opponents who have some advantage over her. Fortunately, there is a limit to the number of these Skills that can be used per day. Much of Ainz's plan for this battle was designed to get Shalltear to spend them all before the end.
Finally, Ainz felt guilty about the current situation, so he decided to punish himself by changing his divine equipment to a lower quality one, which further increased his disadvantage.
So, yes, this battle was very difficult and it is a great triumph that it has reached this point.
Of course, it's not that Ainz is weak either, it's just that his powers don't work well against Shalltiaer's. But still he is a pure mage who managed to win a lot of PVP at the time, although at first he always had to lose a few rounds until he learned the best method to win. Also, in Yggdrassil the limit of spells that could be learned was 300, but Ainz got a special class that allowed him to learn more than 700 spells. We saw a bit of this early on, in the buff number he put on before he started fighting.
Shalltear's Einherjar is a construct-type avatar almost visually identical to Shalltear. This Avatar cannot use magic and some of the abilities of the original, but his equipment and stats are the same.
Ainz's greatest achievement was executing his own trump card well. “The Goal of All Life is Death” is a Skill that he obtained by taking out all the trophies of his class, Lich Overlord, more precisely he unlocked the hidden class Eclipse (that only a few player have achived) that has a lvl cap of 5 level and by reaching the last one you recive the skill "The Goal of All Life is Death".. Any Undead like him have abilities that cause "Instant Death" on an enemy, but naturally there are many ways to defend against this magic, both with items and resistances. Someone like Shalltear naturally has immunity to these kinds of abilities, whether it be full or partial. But “The Goal of All Life is Death” allows you to overcome all those barriers, as long as a instant death effect occurs after at least 12 seconds. Naturally this is a very difficult thing to achieve and any gamer will tell you that timing an attack within 12 seconds is nearly impossible in the middle of a match of, say, "Overwatch" or "Half Life", but Ainz is one of the 13% of players who have perfectly mastered the art of synchronizing spells.
So, the magic used against Shalltear is called “Cry of the Banshee” which kills everything that touches the sound within a large area of land. But the effect is enhanced by the ability "The Goal of All Life is Death" and that is why, according to the novel, literally everything died: The creatures, the Einherjar clone, Shalltear, the earth, the plants and even the air... Everything died. And so in the end the battlefield turned into a desert.
Well that's it. I'd tell you about Mare and Aura's World Items, but I might end up with a spoiler. I hope I have been helpful.

You worded something a bit wrong there. "as long as the instant death effect occurs in exactly 12 seconds" implies that he needs to time his cast after resolving TGOALiD. TGOALiD specifically functions as a buff that adds a 12 second delay on the resolution of his next Instant Death spell, which is why we see the spell cast before the timer starts, then the effect resolves once the timer ends.

Any Undead like him have abilities that cause "Instant Death" on an enemy, but naturally there are many ways to defend against this magic, both with items and resistances. Everything died. And so, in the end the battlefield turned into a desert.
Here I leave you the fragment of the novel, where the effects of this terrible magic are better described:
[Ainz had 60 levels of job classes, and one of them was quite special. It was a class that was very rare even in YGGDRASIL, held only by a small number of players.
The class in question was called “Eclipse”.
The class description stated: “Only an Overlord who is truly dedicated to the pursuit of Death may enter this class, which swallows up all life like an eclipse.”
The move Ainz was planning to use was one which was only available after reaching the maximum level (5th) in Eclipse, a skill which could only be used once every 100 hours.
It was the trump card of the Eclipse class.
That skill was called [The Goal Of All Life Is Death].
A woman’s wail echoed through the air. This cry carried with it an instant-death effect.
Ainz had used various skills to augment this spell, so its potency was greater than normal and harder to resist. Still, it was useless against Shalltear and the Einherjar construct.
    Tick.
The clock face behind Ainz ticked, and its hands slowly moved as the spell took effect.
Ainz glanced at Shalltear in the distance as his health dwindled under the onslaught of the Einherjar, and at the same time he felt quite disappointed.
“...So I can’t finish this cleanly, huh? Damn you, Peroroncino, did you build her specifically to counter me? To think you actually gave her a resurrection item! Dammit!”
Ainz cursed his guildmate within his heart.
Ainz frantically struggled to avoid the attacks of the Einherjar. After 12 seconds had passed, the hour hand had completed a full circuit, and it pointed to the heavens once more.
Then, Ainz’s trump card took effect.
In that moment: The world died.
    This was not metaphorical.
    Everything died.
The Einherjar evaporated into white mist as it couched its lance, and dispersed before Ainz’s eyes. Even a homunculus with no concept of life died instantly. Shalltear’s familiars shared the same fate, unable to resist the destruction which overtook them.
    That was not all.
Even the air - which was not even alive to begin with - fell into death. For over 100 meters in all directions, the air was no longer breathable. If any living creature tried to respire within that area, their lungs would be corrupted by the deadly air, and they would die.
Neither did the land escape the embrace of death. The terrain in a 100 meter radius was instantly transmuted into sand.
Only Shalltear and Ainz could move in this world, where only death remained.
Ainz’s trump card, [The Goal Of All Life Is Death] strengthened the effect of instant death magic and skills. Thus augmented, those instant-death effects could bypass any immunities or resistance and kill their targets after a certain amount of time had passed.
One could resist it by using a resurrection effect on themselves within 12 seconds, as Shalltear had.
The air and the land had also died because of that effect.
In YGGDRASIL, the environment would not have succumbed, but in this new world, the effects were quite appropriate to the skill. All things were equal in the face of Death.
Ainz himself was taken aback by this strange effect. The land had not died like this in YGGDRASIL. He could not help but shake his head after witnessing the effects of the game’s powers in the real world.
However, Ainz swallowed back his surprise. The pride in his heart would not permit him to show any sign of shock. Instead, he acted as though this had been part of his plan. Carrying himself with the arrogance that befitted a ruler, he gently asked the sole survivor:
“What do you think, after experiencing the power that can slay even the unliving?”]
Well that's it. I hope I have been helpful. Thanks for reacting!

So, the thing that happened exactly to Shalltear is this. As an undead, she is immune to mind control, but the world item Downfall of Castle and Country ignores that immunity to mind control her anyway. But before this lady Kaire could gain full control over Shalltear, she was pierced by her purifying lance, and the Black Scripture had to retreat, leaving Shalltear under the effects of mind control, but without a master to command her, which is what caused her game-like state of just standing still until attacked. She essentially fell back on a default command of "hold your ground and defend yourself if attacked".
And yeah, the Black Scripture does have some really powerful stuff. Clementine was also part of them. She's the traitor they speak about at the end there, who stole the Crown of Wisdom, a treasure of the Slane Theocracy.

I presume you mean the anti-surveillance spells, right?
I had a different thought, too, though: Even if someone managed to watch without getting turned into salsa, they would have zero context for 90% of what they saw.
Just like Enferia was assuming the lightning spell Enri talked about was 3rd tier when it was actually 5th, because he simply doesn't know lighting spells above 3rd exist; a viewer would assume most of these spells Ainz and Shalltear are tossing about are just foreign 2nd through 4th tier spells. And that both people are Orichalcum or Adamantine-level combatants. They simply would lack the context to understand that they were watching a battle of titanic proportions for most of it. That is, until the big spells start rearranging the landscape. That, at least, a viewer would have some context for.
Without context, what is the difference between a lvl 8 spell taking 2,000 health off of a monster with 10,000 health, and a lvl 2 spell taking 20 health off of a monster with 100 health, to an outside observer? Practically none. So people could have watched and still wildly underestimate Ainz's capabilities.... if they weren't turned into a smoking grease stain first. True.

The reason Ains has so many magic spells that he can use at a time is because of his class, his build has its negative sides but the class of overlord is the only one or one of the few in Yggdrasil to be able to learn and use so many spells that I think should be around 100.

Ainz has close to 1000 spells because overlord gives him around 800 spell slots

@@RazulLD for reference, the cap for most players is 300. Ainz has 716, but iirc it was never stated that he hit a cap, so he could possibly learn more depending on how Dark Wisdom (the skill allowing him to go over the cap) works.
